see i only really hate state when the fans are assholes, i've got nothing against the actual team itself. and even then its not really pure hatred. duke on the other hand has done enough between its fans, coach, and players to make them the most detestable program on the planet. they're one of those programs where you have to actually think about players you didn't hate, like brand, hill, etc.

For this particular Chapel Hill team, Hansbrough is the only unlikable kid on the court. But I'm sympathetic to his mental and emotional issues. I act like a little baby and get out of control, too.

If we're talking about unlikable players, it's gotta be those dirty boys at Duke. Paulus is scrappy and fails a lot, so I kinda like him...but hot damn he is a dirty little bastard. And every time Scheyer makes a good play, he walks away from the play like he's God's gift to basketball. They all have that attitude, and I think they do it on purpose because they know how fucking obnoxious/irritating it is.

But you're right that, when it comes to Chapel Hill, much of the hate is fueled by the media/fans/University, not the players themselves. The players have gotten to the point where they just seem like pros-in-training or players who thought they were going to go pro but now realize they aren't so they really don't care...

And Pickeral writes, "A surprising statement considering UNC was fortunate to escape with recent wins over Clemson and Georgia Tech."

He's commenting on what everyone is thinking. What the fuck is wrong with these fools? They nearly got beat twice recently, and they still don't have respect for their opponents?

(Maybe this goes back to Ginyard's slip. They don't have to respect their opponents because things are just supposed to "go their way.")

3. And my favorite part:

i didn't read the entire thread. but i would NEVER pull for unc, ever. even if it was for the acc or the state of north carolina. no. no. and no. not now, not 15 years from now, not when i'm dead, not in another life, not if someone was holding my eyelids open and stabbing my eyeballs with tiny needles. if God said the only way to get into heaven was to cheer for carolina for even ONE game, i would be rotting in hell for eternity.

I had this discussion with my wife (Wake alum). She pulls for UNC if they are the only NC/ACC team playing in a given situation. Funny though, that she refuses to ever pull for Duke.
