Bump

Does anyone now know if there will be a price drop anytime soon like after the holidays?

And honestly I don't see spitting out the extra money for 1080p on 37-42 inch tvs....What are your opinions?

went with the 42" Sharp Aquos. That thing is amazing! As soon as I powered it on and turned on the PS3 I was blown away by the clarity and sharpness of the Ps3 menu system

^^Was it worth putting the extra money on it to get 1080p?

37 or 42" Aquos is what Ive been looking at and trying to tell if 1080p is worth it or not.

for that size, I'd say no. Many will argue with me about this..but in the end I doubt they could tell the difference on a TV that size. If it were more like a 50"+ I'd say go for 1080p

well i went for 1080p because I can tell the difference. and I also went for the contrast ratio among other things. It was well worth it IMO

37" is pretty big. but thats from someone who didnt have any other TVs to compare it to. im sure if i compare our 37 to his 42 it would be tiny looking.

I don't consider that a deal at all.

Amazon has Sammy LNT-4665 for 1600 and free shipping:

and your sharp for 1350

I'm looking at the samsung 4061F, 4065F, and the 4069F.

I'm leaning towards the 65F model for the higher contrast, but the 69 and 71's offer 120hz and even higher contrast. Not sure if it would be worth it to pay the higher price for the 120hz versions or just go with the 61 model and be done with it.

I'm wondering why everyone seems to be looking for a ~40" LCD. (I know thats the subject of the thread, but even so). If its because thats the biggest you can afford, take a look at a rear projection TV, like the Sony KDS-XXA3000. You get more inches for your dollar, and a proper screen size for 1080 if you sit any further back than 5 feet from the screen. The Sony has the 120 Hz motion-smoothing feature that those expensive Samsung LCDs have, and it is better implemented as well (no artifacts).

Every room in the house does not have to have a big screen tv. I got a 42" LCD because its the perfect size for my bedroom. Its a big enough room that anything smaller would be hard to see from my bed. And I already have the 50" dlp downstairs that cost less.

Also 1600 is a deal becuase that tv was 1300 on BF at Fry's but I'd have to pay shipping. To me it was worth 1600 to have it the same day. Not pay for shipping. And if I wasn't satisifed I can drive to the store and return it instantly.

The thing is that 40-42" range is the best bang for the buck for a TV. And lower and you pay for a smaller size, and larger and you pay more for the larger size. It's pretty much the standard size for regular HDTV's and a very popular size among consumers. While DLP is cheaper and still overs a good value, they are a dying consumer item, expecially with LCD and plasma prices going down fast.

LCD's will start to fly off the shelves next year with more and more manufacturers switching to LED tv's as it offers even cheaper production costs and higher specs. DLP is doomed to be obsolete even though its a proven tech. I'm still surprised of how small the latest DLP models are; they've really compacted them and reduced their weight.

While the DLP provides a great picture when you're looking directly at the screen, I would never get one for a wide living room where people are standing and moving around because the viewing angles are terrible.

Yeah, still in Raleigh. I just wish those samsung's had DVI port so I could just use it normally as a monitor. Might just buy a cheap 8600gt for the hmdi port for a home entertainment PC.

A 40" LCD and a comparable 50" RPTV are about the same price.

Its unfortunate how many millions of unwitting consumers are paying more for a screen size that is too small to appreciate 1080 from a typical viewing distance of more than 5-6 feet.

That they're dying isn't a reason to avoid them. Manufacturers will continue to support them for years.

RPTV viewing angles are similar to LCDs.

True, but tell that to consumers. Projector TV's have been on the market for quite some time. LCD's have not. It's the idea of being new on the market that gives the incentive of owning new technology, not old technology. Even tough they are comparable in specs and image quality, consumers will associated LCD as being better just because it's new. Marketers know this and play on this.

Yeah, I was about to say that newer DLP's have just as good viewing angles as LCD's now days. Maybe back in the 90's where view angle was poor, and I think that's a negative cogitation for DLP projectors still. Association based on outdated negative image. It's harder to change people's minds and given perception.

I believe I just got one hell of a deal on a Sharp 46" LCD. I just got the LC-46D64U model for $1900 with a free Sharp Blu-Ray player. Bestbuy has the tv for $2200 but HHgregg has the same deal for $1900. I got BB to price match. However, since it was a special deal, they charged me $500 for the player and $1400 for the TV. The receipt shows them as 2 separate items. I'm going to return the Blu-ray player next week so I will have gotten a normally $2200 tv for $1400. I figured I'll wait for the blu-ray players to go down in price or maybe buy a PS3. Either way I'll be coming out in the good. YMMV on this deal and I have yet to return the player as the deal lasts through Sunday.

I have the 47'' 1080p Vizio and its just ridiculous how good this thing looks - first thing I played was the Blu Ray Spider Man 3... PS3 is beautiful on it. I think it was around $1500 all said and done.... Vizio is the hotness (which I said early on in this thread - then I bought my own).

I'm thinking about getting a 120hz 1080p LCD tv in the 47"-51" size, but I'm not sure who has the best 120hz technology out right now and who just slapped together some hardware to keep up. Any suggestions?

The Sonys I've seen with 120hz refresh rates have looked spectacular, but they seem overpriced.

my understanding is there hardware is more or less the same, no one is just slapping something together. the real difference is in the software and DSP.

I'm getting a Samsung 71 series, like in the next two weeks. Sears has it for $1799 and an extra $300 if I get a blu ray or $200+ home theater with it. Its 120hz

I dont really think 120hz is worth the $premium right now. Take a look on avsforums and it seems a lot of people are turning it off altogether.

yes but you already have it for when it is. What would be cheaper? buying 1 tv now without it and 1 with it when you can actually take advantage of it...or paying premie now and only having to buy 1 tv that would last longer.
