Ron paul as VP

DNL, you think McCain needs Crist to carry florida? Did you get kicked in the head?

I guess the only way Obama wins NYC or California is if he picks Arnold or Bloomberg. Shit

okay, who's the idiot who keeps throwing Ron Paul's name around in serious discussion.

the man runs around perpetually half-cocked. not even John McCain is stupid enough to pick him for Veep.

the analogue is to say Obama's going to pick Nader.

Any chance Obama would go for Gore? It would be a surprise that would surely get a lot of news coverage, no one can say he doesn't have the requisite experience for the job after having been a part of the Clinton administration & potentially drawing in a few Clinton fans/voters, and the image he's created with his more progressive leanings, his environmental advocacy, and noble prize winning persona then he might fit into the Obama campaign theme without overshadowing Obama.

I can't see Gore taking second seat to Obama. If he didn't want the Presidential nomination when it was practically offered up to him on a silver platter by the Democratic Party, then there's no chance that he'd want to sit around and be Vice President for another four or eight years.

Biden today said "I'm not the guy"

I hope its not Kaine. Who else is left?

My family shook hands with Obama tonight at the town hall meeting in Raleigh and they mentioned that in all his comments about what he wanted out of a VP he always used masculine pronouns.

i hope it's Tim Kaine.

democrat governor from virginia. very popular and likeable fellow. executive experience, fairly young (he's 50). will help him in the south. interesting tidbit: he's a roman catholic, did missionary work with the Jesuits.

he also looks like someone who could cover your back in a barfight. ... unlike that pretty-boy Joe Biden what with the botox, hair implants, and bleached teeth.

the executive experience makes me want to say kaine(over bayd or biden), but the lack of experience makes me think repubs will pound that shit home come nov...idk its not like the dems were known as foreign policy experts anyways...in my personal opinion, i think biden makes the strongest ticket, but i dont know about the most electable ticket

For a while I had really hoped Bobby Jindal would be McCain's pick, but he has been very emphatic that he wants to stay governor. He had a lot going for him -- he's very young, his policies appeal to the base, and, let's face it, he ain't white.

I do like the idea here:

http://time-blog.com/real_clear_politics/2008/05/what_about_jindal.html

Which suggests that they might be trying to line up Jindal for a prominent speaking role at the convention to set him up for a future run, like what happened with Obama in 2004.

Tom Ridge's association with Homeland Security seems like a liability to me, and Lieberman...meh.

“Beating a Demon: The Physical Dimensions of Spiritual Warfare”
by Bobby Jindal, New Oxford Review, 1994

http://www.newoxfordreview.org/article.jsp?did=1294-jindal

Here's the summary from WordPress

Quote :
"Of the Collected Works of Bobby Jindal, one story, in particular, has been the subject of intense scrutiny. The story concerns Mr. Jindal, as an undergraduate, participating in a strange type of exorcism ceremony. This experience, claims Mr. Jindal, helped to underscore his nascent Catholic faith.

This, in a truncated and paraphrased form, is the now-famous exorcism story:

When Bobby Jindal was attending Brown University, he had a friend named “Susan.” Susan and Bobby were very close friends. Some people even thought the two were an item, but they never were. One day, Susan and Bobby attended a Christian concert, and in the middle of the show, Susan got up and left. Bobby knew something was wrong. He followed her outside, and she was sobbing. Bobby tried to console her. A female friend showed up and gave Susan a hug. Bobby knew the problem would not go away with a hug, and he offered to walk her back to her dorm room. Once they were in the room, Susan confessed why she was upset. She said she had cancer. Skin cancer. Bobby promised to stand by her forever. He sat next to her in bed and distracted her with “fairy tales.” Susan calmed down.

The next time they were supposed to meet for dinner, Susan was late. She refused to apologize, so Bobby refused to speak with her for a week. But they quickly resolved everything when Susan opened up about her nightmares and the strange, unknown odors emanating from her dorm room. Bobby attributed the odor to the devil, because it smelled like sulfur. Susan also told Bobby about speaking in tongues and visions she had. Bobby became worried and scared. Bobby had heard a priest claim that “angels, spirits, and other such apparitions” were not meant for literal interpretation. Still, he wanted to believe Susan.

When Susan was telling Bobby this, he excused himself and left the room. Then, he made the sign of the cross and prayed to God for help. When he walked back into the room, Susan “angrily lashed out” at Bobby, and he thought, “Gee. Thanks God. So much for prayer.”

The next day, when Susan went for another set of tests, Bobby and his friends in the University Christian Fellowship club (UCF) organized a prayer meeting for Susan later that evening. Bobby asked Susan if she wanted him to attend the meeting. At first she said no, but she quickly changed her mind.

The UCF prayer meeting was held in a classroom. A group of people, including Bobby, Susan, and Susan’s sister, sat in a circle on the floor and sang songs and prayed together. Suddenly, right after a group prayer, Susan “emitted some strange guttural sounds.” Bobby thought she may be having a seizure. Susan’s sister told everyone to place their hands on Susan’s body. Bobby “refused” and “froze in horror.” Susan began to scream Bobby’s name. She yelled, “Bobby, you cannot even love Susan.” Bobby thought it was funny she referred to herself in the third person. Bobby walked to the back of the room, and Susan began insulting every person in the room, revealing private information and embarrassing secrets.

Susan’s sister and a woman named “Louise,” who Bobby says was “a member of a charismatic church,” pinned Susan down and prayed loudly and desperately. They yelled things like, “Satan, I command you to leave this woman” and commanded “(all) demons to leave in the name of Christ.” Susan continued shouting. Bobby tried to remain calm, though at one point, he thought he could be having a stroke. Bobby considered calling the campus priest, but he also thought that Catholicism could actually be bogus. He was having questions about his faith. Instead, the students in the UCF meeting continued to pray for Susan. Bobby tried praying, but he became exhausted.

Susan attempted to escape, and during the scuffle, “Alice,” the student leader for Campus Crusade for Christ, “entered the room for the first time, brandishing a crucifix.” They had tried calling a “rival” Christian group to help, but the preacher “denied” their request for help and told them to not to “confront the demon.” Alice made Susan even angrier. Susan tried lunging toward the door. Bobby began repeating the Hail Mary over and over again. He said, “Being new to Catholicism, I had yet to accept the Catholic doctrines concerning Mary and considered any form of Marian devotion to be idolatry.” But he could not think of anything else at the time, so he prayed to Mary.

Susan eventually calmed down because of the crucifix, and her sister brought out a Bible. They all began daring Susan to read passages from the Bible. She would begin to read a passage and then blurt out obscenities. But after reading several passages, Susan changed, almost in an instant. She proclaimed, “Jesus is Lord,” and then told everyone she could not remember “any of the past few hours.”

Susan even asked Bobby if he was okay. Bobby told Susan’s sister he would “commit” to a “nightlife” of prayer for Susan. Susan spent the night in the house of a missionary, because her roommate had pagan-looking decorations in their dorm room.

Bobby felt a renewed appreciation for his Catholic faith. He no longer doubted, as he had only hours before.

Susan and Bobby stayed friends. Susan even became a Catholic. And her cancer somehow completely disappeared.

Hasn't Jindal pretty much said there is no way he will be the VP pick, that he doesn't want it and is planning on running for LA gov again?

and Biden would be a terrible pick for Obama imho. Another northern Democrat, yeah...

Clinton would be a good choice in terms of getting elected, but would be terrible for Obama if he won with her as VP.

i agree, Biden would be a terrible choice: an entrenched washinton senator from DELAWARE for chrissakes. and he looks like a prettier version of Bill Clinton. sorry, i just cant get past his sculpted face and ridiculously perfect, white teeth. he's a great senator, i hope he stays where he's at, but he's everything that Obama's "Change" is not.

i don't necessarily think Clinton will help Obama be more electable. fuck her cranky supporters, they'll get back on the bus. if clinton were VP nom, i really think she'll just drive more of the dejected fundamentalists and angry white men out of their holes to come vote *against* her. she's just too damn polarizing.

Richardson has negatives? like what? why you hating on the guy??

he's NOT a bad candidate. He's really a good guy, and has solid experience -- he may well have made a great VP pick for Clinton or Edwards, had Obama not been in the picture (and edwards not been a sleazy sonofabitch :grr: )

but you cant have two ethnic minorities on one ticket. sorry. i hate to sound racist, but our country is not ready for that yet. and New Mexico only has a small amount of electoral votes that are already going Obama. Richardson is a quiet hero, he doesnt have any real "Bang"

im not saying Kaine has "Bang" necessarily, but he is gov of a *swing state* that is traditionally republican but could go dem, with a lot of electoral votes. Kaine also appeals to the southern white working class male. definitely something that Obama needs. executive experience will defuse any argument that his ticket is unbalanced. Richardson would have added substantial foriegn policy experience, but not enough to overcome the deficits.
