when is the last time Iowa actually selected the eventual winner? I mean, it seems they always pick the eventual looser....will be interesting to see what NH does, if Hill looses NH to him, Obama probably will win SC then, and then it comes to Super Tuesday which is not auto wins for Obama even if he has won all the others. 1/4/2008 12:06:36 AM |

In predicted the winner in 2000 with Bush as well as 76 with Carter (although the majority were uncommitted). I am not including races where someone ran unopposed.

There's still some delegates unassigned, I think. CNN said 45 out of 52, if I remember correctly. 1/4/2008 12:23:11 AM |

In his speech he went from talking like a 1960s Civil Rights marcher, to laying down some rhymes, to southern baptist preacher, to White-Black-Guy. I was impressed with how he mixed it up and transitioned to and from each persona.
At the same time, how can you not be weary of a "good" political speaker?1/4/2008 1:12:48 AM |

This is actually an important point. Democrats will take the stage for a debate in NH with four (possibly three) people on the stage, while Republicans still have Huckabee, McCain, Romney, Guiliani, Thompson, et. al.1/4/2008 1:30:13 AM |

After eight years with a shitty one, I can't say I wouldn't welcome a smooth operator.
In fact, it seems like just the thing we need.

^^^ yeah, Bush is a horrible fucking speaker; but I can't help but wonder if he isn't like Edward Norton in Primal Fear who just keeps affecting this ignorance as a cover. Hell, he managed to fake being from Texas even though he has some of the bluest New England blood in the nation. 1/4/2008 7:20:38 AM |

not positive, but in small precincts where there are only say 3 delegates, and the split might be something like 35% obama 25% edwards 20% clinton, each candidate would still only get one delegate. i'm not exactly positive how they allot the number of delegates to each precinct, but i did hear an interview with a precinct captain who said that regardless of how many showed up to his small district (even though the attendance more than tripled from 2004), he would still get one delegate for each of the three.1/4/2008 6:17:33 PM |

Doesn't it have something to do with superdelegates too? I don't know if those are included in those numbers, but I know Hillary has a ton of them already pledged to her. 1/4/2008 6:43:49 PM |

It's based on the 5 congressional districts in Iowa and each candidate's support in each. Also involves a lot of rounding. Be mindful it's just an estimate.1/4/2008 6:48:45 PM |

but anyway, the actual delegates haven't mattered for a presidential nomination in more than 25 years. it would only matter if there was still a battle going on come summer time which is pretty much never going to happen.
