UPDATE: Just called the ticket office and he said it is a dry campus, maybe during football season you can get away with having a cup, but other than that he was unsure. But just repeated that it is a dry campus. Not that I would be doing heavy tailgating, but I wanted to pound maybe 2 beers on the way in. 2/22/2008 1:31:01 PM |

^Yeah, after all the cock-sucking they did to their tarhole hosts, I was glad to see that.
And besides Roy, the "yay for tarheels", and that sort of thing, it was a great show. More than worth the ticket price. 2/22/2008 11:55:31 PM |

i hate the dean dome though. the show was great, but i had two people sitting in my lap and heard the carts screeching around outside the entire time...plus the sound was way too quiet. other than that it was awesome.

alright
who all did the WOLFPACK! at the end of the show and had ferrell yell at you
the show was alright, i was sitting by myself so I guess i didn't really get into it. Demetri was same ol', nothing spectacular and the worst of the show. Swardson was pretty good and Zach was my favorite of the three (minus his gay shouting shit), but nothing really got me going.
Will Ferrell's skits were definitely funny, and the whole UNC-Duke and I <3 UNC stuff got a little worn out.
I did get a picture with Roy Williams before the show started, but I didn't really have the sharpness or speed to say something Wolfpack-witty 2/23/2008 1:40:19 AM |
ShinAntonio Zinc Saucier 18947 Posts user info edit post |
I thought Demetri knocked it out the park, followed by Zach, and Nick was the weakest. I don't follow sports at all so the Roy Williams thing just fell flat.
But a great show all around. Definitely worth the ticket price. Shame the Will Arnett thing didn't turn out to be true.

I liked Farrel's skits the least. They were good for a few laughs, but nowhere near the level of the stand-up acts. That, and I couldn't seem to stop thinking to myself how old he looked.
I'd say Swardson was actually the strongest part of the act, but this might just be because I've never seen any of his stand-up before, and as such I hadn't heard any of the jokes before.
I've seen almost everything Demetri has done, and was glad to see that the vast majority of his act was newer material. Yes, it's still the same old Demetri, but why change when his style of comedy is so funny? I would be much happier with him if he would reuse stuff from his previous acts less, though.
As for Zach, he was hilarious as always but came across a little weak. The pacing of his act just seemed so much slower than the others. I don't mind a drawn-out joke, but the 30-second pauses followed by a completely random statement started to wear out fast.

it isnt that it wasnt true. it just didnt happen last night. he was definitely hosting at least one show though b/c there's video on funny or die. but yeah, woulda loved to have seen him too. of course it was next to impossible to hear anything in there, so i guess it wouldn't have really mattered.
i thought demetri and nick did the best job of using newer material. demetri had a few recycled jokes, but i hadn't heard most of nick's stuff before. i have seen both demetri and zach in the past year or so though, and all i had seen from nick is his old comedy central presents from like 2000. zach was funny as usual, but i thought he could have updated his material a little more.

ok, finally got home
highlights:
-sitting 6 rows from the stage (i had no idea how many people were going to be there, so it was nice being that close to the stage) -i had no idea nick swardson would be that good, that suicide joke had me and guitarguy absolutely dying -zach, as always. although i had heard about 50-60% percent of his material before, it still killed me (that fucking line about k&w killed me, that and the NY hipsters) -will ferrell's wife/family sitting two rows behind us -me getting one of zachs white pages
not so much: -although i LOVE demitri martin, i had heard most of it before, and he just wasnt as good as the other two -ron burgandy interviewing roy (although the question about K was awesome) -the dean dome -eric montross -no will arnett -not getting heckled by the tarholes (i was in red head to toe)
thats all my drunk self cares to talk about right now
more to come tommorow

my friend sat next to Montross, dude is freaking huge.
I thought that Martin was the best out of the lot, especially with how awkward some of his jokes were. The girl sitting next to me didn't get his "I remember when I used to be into nostalgia" jokes and had to ask her boyfriend about a few other ones.
Zach Galifianakis had me rolling with his Annie sketch and I hadn't heard most of his jokes and I wasn't really impressed with Nick besides the suicide joke and the "it tastes like wolf pussy" stuff.] 2/23/2008 9:08:55 AM |

I would say Nick was hands down the best and the crowd seemed to laughing louder and longer during his skit. Zach was the second best but like it was already mentioned the pacing of some of his jokes was a little bit too long. Demetri was alright but not that rememberable. When the people that I went to the show with and I were quoting jokes later that night I don't think we quoted one of his. I loved the beginning with Ferrell and the ninjas. I was in 108 near the stage and the sound wasn't bad for me. Alex Stephenson and Ty Lawson were sitting a few rows ahead of me on the right. I had the urge to trip Lawson when he walked by me. 2/23/2008 10:51:25 AM |

yeah, the unc pep rally stuff got old...especially since when they did a round of applause of who was from where and there were as many people not from unc as there were
demetri seemed like he wasn't feeling the crowd...nick was my favorite...he seemed kind drunk and high though aha...zach was my 2nd favorite...especially when he was yelling about the choo choo and the panckes...will was pretty good, though my nc state bias got tired of all the sucking up to unc...but it's thier house, so it made sense
the rainbow ending was worth it though 2/23/2008 11:28:53 AM |

YOU AINT GOT NO PANCAKE MIX was the line of the night for me.
Galifinakis killed, I loved every bit of his, and I second the BET Canada scouts.
Nick was great with the figure skating screw up and spinning around peeing, that and the monkey jokes hit me just right.
Demetri is awesome.
Will and Roy was great, and I understand the UNC thing and agree with it because it was at UNC. If it was in the RBC Center it would have been all about State. I'm pretty sure that when they played Ohio State and other schools they were probably also doing the same stuff with "insert schools name here".
Though I do know that Will Ferrell is a big UNC fan and has family in the area. You can find pictures of him at some of their games wearing a UNC hat. 2/23/2008 12:39:58 PM |

My buddy and I yelled WOLFPACK! when Zach was on the stage and he gave the standard reaction to random yelling from the crowd. I don't remember anyone yelling wolfpack when Will was on the stage.
Great show overall, I enjoyed every comic's set, however the UNC lovefest almost made me puke up my airplane bottles. "I love blacking out"2/23/2008 4:25:46 PM |

Is the "pancake mix" thing a reference to something? I thought it was funny, but don't exactly where it comes from. 2/23/2008 4:57:48 PM |
ThePeter TWW CHAMPION 37709 Posts user info edit post |
possibly, the joke was 'sitting in the middle of his bare hardwood floor yelling YOU AIN'T GOT NO PANCAKE MIX'
and then he referred to a movie about a woman on Lifetime, which everyone but me laughed at 2/23/2008 5:37:25 PM |
kafox All American 579 Posts user info edit post |
what do you mean was the "pancake mix thing a reference to something"? I think that's random humor, if you don't get it, you should be watching more physical forms of comedy like Kenan and Kel or anything with clowns. 2/23/2008 5:43:55 PM |
ThePeter TWW CHAMPION 37709 Posts user info edit post |
when i heard the joke last night i thought it might be a reference as well, especially since he said the lifetime thing after, but after watching the youtube linked in chitchat it seems to be entirely random 2/23/2008 5:48:46 PM |

it isn't in reference to anything..the randomness of it is why it is hilarious.
And it is "sitting indian-style" btw...gotta get it right. I loved the pancake mix and choo choo lines. And Nick losing 400 dollars on monkey high fves.

In relation to the suicide joke by Nick...did he follow it with the babies and suicide joke?? If so...that one is even funnier, and its on his latest CD. Sounds like his material wasn't necessarily "new" either. You guys need to check out his CD if you liked his stand-up. 2/24/2008 11:41:24 AM |

People complaining about having heard the jokes before, need to understand that stand-up comedians almost never use new material for big-venue events. It's just not the way it works. 2/24/2008 1:41:36 PM |
