We'd get beat by UNC-A by double digits

We'll lose to carolina by at least 25-30 if we shot average
if we shoot poorly, we'll lose by 35-40

Carolina is a lot better than Michigan State, and though yall might not think it, but the Dean Dome has become one of the hardest places to play since carolina won the championship in 05, and with school just starting and all the students back + first acc home game of the year + #1 team in the country + huge in state rival + still probably bitter over last year's loss in raleigh + fells hurt = huge f-ing blowout

we don't stand a chance, not even close
when does football season start

I cant see us winning.

Neither can anyone else.

Quite frankly, that is the best position for this team coming into this game.

^x5 well i'd like to be coherent enough so that if we do win i'll remember it. plus i will be watching it at my parent's house, b/c they have a new 48 inch widescreen flat panel HD TV. So now not only do I get to watch the beat down with a few beers in me, I get to watch it in HD too.

[Edited on January 10, 2008 at 10:07 AM. Reason : OMFG did you see how clear Hansbrough's walk was in HD?]

I'll be watchin the game with 3 of my idiot friends wearing red in my dad's ram club seats, look for us on tv

though you probably wont be able to see us because we'll probably be sitting down the whole time becuase carolina will somehow find a way to hit a 22 pointer after the tip-off and we won't stand a chance the rest of the game

sideline baby, isle seat, not corner of the court but one isle over going towards midcourt, 3 rows up, i've been spotted on tv a couple times but its rare, becuase we are across from the court from the bench and the cameras are facing are backs, but we will be standing out cause we WILL be the only idiots wearing red in at least a 200 seat radius (not including the state bench)

"Coach Sidney Lowe confirmed that Fells was on crutches after the game, and the prospects of him playing against North Carolina on Saturday are unknown. Initial X-rays of the ankle were negative.

In his place, reserve Trevor Ferguson played 18 minutes and connected on just one of his seven 3-point shots.

His problems finding the hoop were shared by the rest of the team. State scored the fewest points of any of the Eagles’ 22 opponents, including Houston Baptist University, Concord University and North Dakota State.

Once again, perimeter shooting was the main culprit of another ugly win by the Pack, as State clanked all 10 of its first half 3-point attempts. In the last two games combined, the Pack has hit just 1-of-21 first half 3-pointers.

Who gives a shit how many points we scored? Shut up already. We won by 20, held them to 11 POINTS in the 2nd half without any intensity. Meanwhile, UNC allowed 83 POINTS to friggin UNC-Asheville.

Throw every single comparison out the window. I don't care who beat who, who scored how many points, how bad the other team was, what our record is, who is hurt....

NC State vs. UNC.

We had no chance when Lakista torched them, had no chance when CC torched them, had no chance last year...

Go To Hell carolina!!

^good post

if there is one thing i know, it's that the transitive property does not apply to sports. you can use it to justify a would beat b for almost any two teams in the country if you dig hard enough, but we know that things don't work that way. go pack.

Are Hansbrough/Thompson/Stepheson honestly better than Hickson/McCauley/Costner (when they show up)? I don't buy it. Hansbrough might be better than the three, but UNC's front court is NOT better than the one we have.

We all know their back court is better than ours. But the x-factor is going to be Gavin Grant vs Danny Green. Gav HAS to step up on Saturday. I feel good about our front court vs their front court, and feel good about their back court vs our back court. It will come down to who shows up between Gavin and Dumbo.

is the key. they just haven't looked the same this year. there is almost an over-reliance on hickson that makes costner and mccauley complacent...or maybe it's just me. i hope that this is the coming out party for an aggressive team that spreads the court by knocking down long shots.

Their frontcourt was a thousand times better than ours last year when we didn't have a legitimate big man, although McCauley did a fantastic job playing the role.

And we beat their ass.

Atsur was a really good PG the first game and Fells had the game of his career to this point. We have shit at the 1 now and Fells isn't even healthy...

Look, I hope we win as much as anyone but I'm being realistic and just not seeing how we can... and no one needs to quote Jimmy V to me... as much as I love him, that cliche has no relevance to this game.

LOL, go look at last year's game thread. The same shit was being said.

It is likely we'll lose, I know. But that's the beauty of being a wolfpack fan. You're always supposed to lose. You're never the top dog. So when we do win one, against all odds and against goliath, the victory is just that much more sweet.

I believe.

that pretty much sums up this team so far this season. they've been playing like they don't give a flying fuck.

let's hope ACC play will turn this garbage around

You don't think? The only game they could of possibly gotten "up" for was MSU. And I believe we came out flat due to the travel, plus it aint easy for anyone in the Izzodome.

The team has had this game on the front of their mind since last season.

the good thing with our team is that they have found a way to win a bunch of games despite playing shitty and being down or having it close. It is always tough to judge a team that can do that.

^ True that. If they even played at 90% of their ability level we'd be gold. As it is I'd rate our effort on the season around 60%. Hopefully they'll turn it on strong the second half of season and all this negativity will be something we can laugh about and point fingers over later.

^^^ I'm not buying this effort shit I keep hearing, that just doesn't do it for me. They are competitors it isn't like they are going out there and not caring/trying. It might LOOK like that, but that doesn't make it true.

We just look terrible on the offensive end and lost. Its like "you shoot it, no you shoot it, no you shoot it" 8 seconds on shot clock launch up a shot. And the double high post offense we keep running hasn't resulted in a basket once this season. Just seem to robotic on offense, need to loosen the reigns and just play ball and let the athletes do their thing.

from reading this thread you'd think that they beat us all 3 times they played us last year, and by 30 points each time

not that we beat them outright, we lost at UNC, and we played a nailbiter in the acc finals fter back-to-back-to-back games

i swear i fucking hate some of our fans sometimes

Our backcourt is destroying this team right now. There is way to much pressure on JJ/McCauley/and Costner. Other teams might as well keep 5 defenders in the lane on defense and let our guards shoot wide open 3's all night.

As a player if you can't get fired up for this game then you need to quit basketball.

I won't say we have a 0% chance to win because the improbable and the seemingly impossible has happened before.

GO PACK!

^^i mean its one thing to be realistic and say "yeah i think carolina will probably pull away at the end from their depth, but we'll be fired up, and anything can happen"

half of our fans are just defeatists..."we're the worst team ever"...."theres a 0% chance we win"..."i hate our current 7 game win streak"

at least i have the choice/option to not read threads when i'm actually watching the games

^haha i made the 0% chance comment before i read that lol

A large part of the poor offensive execution is the effort involved.

-outrunning your guy to a spot for an open jumper

-fighting for offensive boards that equal points more often than not

- not just throwing the ball down low to Hickson and then just standing there watching him as he tries to fight through a triple team

All of things require effort. Effort that I've seen in spurts from different players throughout the season, but not from the whole team during the entirety of any one game.

oh i totally agree.

i wish there would have been a Wolfweb in 1983.

because we sucked it up a lot that year up until tourney time.

just goes to show anything can happen... ESPECIALLY here. We've done it before.

Shit, I said the same stuff before last years game I'm sure. By all rights, we shouldn't have won but we got a career game from our 2 and we had a very good 1.

This year we have NO 1 and our 2 might not even play. Costner needs to channel some of that ACC Tourney play and Hickson needs to score 30+... no way around it.

I don't think it's being unrealistic to say that we are probably not going to win. In fact, it probably won't even be close. We have too many deficiencies right now with Fells not 100% (is he even going to play?)

Quote :
"because we sucked it up a lot that year up until tourney time."

Not really. We started off GREAT that year with our only loss before New Year's coming to Top 5 ranked Louisville. Then we had some injuries hit us and hit a lull in ACC play before getting healthy and playing well again when it mattered. Not too many parallels between the two...

its a good point that our guys should be up for this game like no other. aside from the rivalry, and sid lighting a fire under them (i hope) it is against the freakin #1 team in the nation who is undefeated. there is no reason for everyone to be up for the game.. any player in the nation would be up for this game
