16-2 against a harder SOS > 12-5

and Kentucky played their best game of the year at home where they dominate UT, UT played their worst game of the year after two big emotional games and still almost won... they are fine.

UT really didnt play a bad game

Lofton had one of his better performances of late, Chism looked good and was hustling all over the place. Overall, I dont think you can say this was their worst game of the season

Kentucky did have their best game of the season so far (now that they are all healthy it might happen more often)

it was a good game, I thought UT was gonna put it away when they put on the fullcourt press towards the end of the second half

^ well, thats the thing, they typically do the full court press ALL game but for some reason Pearl backed off a lot this game, not sure if they were tired from the 2 games before, if people were hurt or what, but they definitely didnt play as fast as they have in the other games this year, a LOT more half court stuff which is where UK (especially Patterson) killed them. And JuJuan Smith (leading scorer this year) didnt do shit...thats what I meant by "worst game". Maybe "least like they usually play" would have been better

^^ its not ACC of course, but its not horrible at all. Kentucky is one of the top 3 programs of all time, Florida has been dominating lately, Tenn is coming up, LSU has been good as of late (except this year)

I'd say Tenn has it's own problems next week with Memphis......let's just say that when a team from the SEC not named Vandy and Memphis get together, each team's points at the under 12 timeout in the 1st half are higher than the current grad rate......

what? "I'd say"?? Memphis is good? really? I didnt know that. Thanks. I just assumed the #1 ranking and undefeated record were garbage but since you said "I'd say" I will believe you!

"yeah, I'd say France had its own problems with Germany, its not obvious, but I am saying it so now people will know!"

Now now, take a joke..I mean, you are patronizing an NCSU athletic board with your Tennessee propaganda, just don't go Jerod Mayo on me.... But seriously, when the next high profile school is looking for a head coach, they are going to tell Bruce Pearl to "come on over" and he most likely will. Guy is slick, really slick. If I was a Tenn. fan I'd sit back and enjoy this season, and next, and pray that the university pays him after next season. I'd bet Summit actually forbids a raise for Pearl, as there is only room on the court for one coach's manhood in Knoxville.

Pearl isnt going anywhere. If he was he would have gone this last off season. He recognized the potential of a sleeping giant and knows that he will always be the fucking man there. It will be Pearl Arena by the time he leaves.

Uh, Pearl left his wife and kids, you think he won't leave his team??? I guess if Tenn coughs up the money, you think Summit will allow that though?

I was trying to remember that incident from the late 80's so I wiki'd it:
During the 1988-1989 basketball season, Pearl, then an assistant coach at the University of Iowa, was at the center of a recruiting scandal involving the University of Illinois. Both Illinois and Iowa were recruiting Deon Thomas, a top high school player from Chicago. Pearl lost this recruiting battle when Thomas committed to Illinois. Thereafter, Pearl called the high school student and surreptitiously recorded a phone conversation with Thomas. During the conversation, Pearl asked Thomas if he had been offered an SUV and cash by Illinois assistant coach Jimmy Collins, and Thomas indicated he had. Pearl then turned over tapes (alleged by Illinois to have been edited) to the NCAA, accompanied by a memo describing the events.[1] However, during the subsequent NCAA investigation, Thomas denied the allegations and said the story was false. The NCAA did not find Illinois guilty of any wrongdoing relating to Thomas' recruitment, finding that the proof provided was not "credible, persuasive and of a kind on which reasonably prudent persons rely in the conduct of serious affairs." [1]. However, the investigation uncovered other violations, and Illinois was punished due to a finding of "lack of institutional control" based in part on previous infractions involving Illinois' football program.

When Pearl and Collins were both head coaches for four years in the Horizon League, the two men never engaged in the traditional postgame handshake, reportedly due to lingering feelings over the incident. When Thomas was asked about forgiving Bruce Pearl in a 2005 interview, he was quoted as saying "It's hard to forgive a snake". Thomas went on to play basketball at the University of Illinois, becoming its all time leading scorer

Sounds like a stand up guy!

^^ large university, large athletic budget, large fan base, largest on campus bball arena in the country, major conference, I dont know what else could go into a sleeping giant. And I dont know if they can crash and burn since you know, Tennessee isnt a basketball school...

^ left his wife, kid actually got some PT the other day. And they would just keep bumping up Summitt's salary too. Cheating is worse than turning someone in for cheating. If another team was using unfair tactics to do better at your team's expense, fuck em, turn then in all day.

A Tennessee fan promoting snitching about sleazy recruiting has karma written all over it. If it's possible, Pearl is sleazier than Fulmer, again, I said, if that's possible.

I think we've been over this a few times, so let's not.....I can't believe you don't see anything wrong with Pearl's "FBI wannabe tape session" with a recruit, and then leaves his wife for a younger broad, and think there's no major inconsistency. He likes to play the role of moral authority, and then the complete contrary later, see what I'm getting at here? You're blind if you don't see Pearl leaving if say, I don't know, an Arizona comes calling. If Rich Rod can leave WVU (that school was neither sleeping nor a giant when he got there), nothing is in stone, absolutely nothing, just give me that.

I'll be real honest, I like watching SEC football, and I really don't care, because each and every team in that conference has the image that they bend the rules (minus Vandy), even you have to admit that's the public perception.

have to agree with NCSUMEB here. every year it seems that something comes out about some team in the SEC doing something illegal or potentiall illegal. this year it is florida and urban meyer. other conferences have individual issues at certain times (like FSU this year or Bush and he is just one player).

nationwide the overriding perception is that the SEC cheats in recruiting all the time, mainly football obviously. since they all do it though it is not looked upon as badly b/c it is almost accepted as something that has to happen for everyone to have a chance to compete b/c the league is so brutal.

i love watching sec football and think it is by far the best in the country, but with regards to recruiting, it is the widely held belief that almost everyone does shady things in that conference.

Now now jaybee, you just said for me to find some hard core proof that Fulmer is dirty, we can't go hanging Bush out to dry just yet, be consistent please. I'm starting to see the connection you're probably compelled to feel for Fulmer and Pearl

^^ and I think thats just because they always have such high recruiting classes. If the Mountain West all of a sudden had 4-5 teams in the top 15 recruiting everyone would claim cheating.

^ I thought they had proof, just havent figured out what to do to USC yet

I think it's more of a combination of less stringent academics with the success of the SEC that has the media shouting "Cheaters!" If it was one or the other and not both, I don't think you'd see the media nailing the SEC quite as much but that's just my two cents.

That guy on tape isn't going to seal Bush's fate or USC's, I can tell you that. He's telling the truth, but a convicted felon doesn't have too much credibility, even when he's telling the truth which I think he is. The NCAA's worst nightmare is USC going on probation

agree to an extent. obviously someone would be cheating if they got a top 15 class in the mt. west b/c they aren't even a bcs conference. and agree that some of it is due to the high recruiting classes for so many sec programs every year. but you don't hear about oklahoma, texas, usc (besides bush), notre dame, and places like that near as much as the sec with regards to possible recruiting violations. not saying you never do, but not near as much. like i said earlier, seems like almost every year someone in the sec is accused of doing something shady.

no, not outright cheating but someone complaining about something.

definitely has to do with academics too. huge part of it.

pearl is doing a pretty good job there though that is for sure. and until i hear some kelvin sampson type garbage about him i won't say anythings b/c they are winning and winning a lot.

hey guys, i played starting SG at pellisippi state. which could probably also beat ncsu the way they are playing right now

tennessee is having a fucking GREAT year, i've watched more of their games than i have ncsu games (not really on purpose, but either way i have). TN has come through and just slaughtered team after team after team.

you know how poor ole nc state has that one AWESOME game every year? well TN has one every week

i also think its funny about memphis. and how there is the UT/memphis thing going on... and how memphis is OBVIOUSLY the wal mart team of tennessee. good news for tar heels fans, at least...

[Edited on February 23, 2008 at 4:31 PM. Reason : i pull for NCSU and TN when i see them on. but really NCSU hasnt dont much for me so fuck em]

also, the more that i think about it...

after ncsu got me arrested me for a crime i didnt do and had me locked up and kicked out of school without a trial, i think that should speak for how much i care about them and their athletics.

now that the state has finally pushed the dismissal through, 4 years later, i think i may just wait and see with what happens to my college career before i make the final decision. so, for now, i'm still an nc state fan. but this may change if i decide to finish my degree up elsewhere.

plus knoxville is a pretty cool little city, even though its the first place i ever saw a GIT ER DONE hat.

GO UT!

Ive been on this train.....but they were #2. With the way NCSU is playing they have become #1. We have no chance to make the dance now unless we pull a miracle and win the ACCT. GO VOLS!

On a side note, why couldn't we get a coach like Pearl? All the fans love him, players love him, his style really works, and he is a great recruiter and motivator.

I would wonder about him heading to Indiana, but they are likely to face either NCAA probation, self-imposed NCSU-style program suicide, or both.

When I went to visit a friend in Knoxville 2 years ago I bought a Tennesse hat for the hell of it. I think I might wear that to the next State game. I have always liked Bruce Pearl and wish State would have scooped him up from UW-Milwaukee.
