Joe Blanton is available w/ 2 starts vs Min @Sea should I go him over Maine?

This is good....nobody talks fantasy baseball on here much.

any idea why BJ Ryan didn't go in for the save opportunity last night for the Jays? Accardo got the save...still just working Ryan back into the rotation? He had pitched the day before but not the day before that

Accardo sucks....don't know why they wouldn't put Ryan in.

Putz is killing me too. I drafted him fairly high and he still isn't back.

I debated for the entire 90 seconds at the draft whether to take Papelbon or Putz

I made the right choice, then traded him straight up for Brandon Webb

so I'm sitting pretty there

Accardo was the closer last year and early this year until Ryan came back, but Ryan has pitched in and saved a few games this season, as recently as April 19...Toronto was up 5-3 going into the 9th yesterday so I don't know why they didn't bring in Ryan, and he doesn't have a player news note either

If they can find their way out of this 0-4 hole to Detroit this afternoon maybe we'll see Ryan again cause 2-3 years ago he was one of the nastiest closers in the majors

they probably won't throw Ryan in back-to-back days for a while. He did just come off a year long injury

im the commish of a half tww league where one manager is giving up david ortiz and todd jones to an inactive manager for jose reyes.

I am against this as I dont think it is a fair trade. Opinions?

it could be less fair but i wouldnt like it either...Jones will eventually get some saves once your boys turn it around but he'll also have an ERA of 4.50 +

Ortiz might turn it around but Reyes has been a consensus top 5 pick in every draft the last couple years

seems to shady to me...it should be Papi + quality SP = reyes

i'd want to look at each players teams before i decided, but if its a trade with an "inactive" manager...well i'm guessing its going to get vetoed

I have Phil Hughes and Cole Hamels.... some guy offered me Zack Greinke/Edinson Vólquez/Randy Johnson for the pair

This isn't a keeper league so that would definitely play a factor otherwise.. Hamels and Greinke are kind of a wash and Volquez/Johnson have to be better combined than Hughes has been this year, no? Let me know what you think

i like volquez but i'm not big on randy this year...his first start he allowed no earned runs but he got rocked yesterday in the 6th...be wary of birdman

anybody think arizona will rest Byrnes for the day since his 14 game hit streak ended yesterday? i need to know by 8:05 so i can plug in corey hart if need be!

Yeah, that was my initial thought but whats your reasoning?

Those guys he's offering can't keep it up and Hughes will eventually come around? That's what I'm thinking but I need productivity now. I have Bedard and he's been on the DL, Burnett and Hughes have been getting rocked so far in the season... I've been getting killed in pitching categories every week.

Greinke is tearing shit up, but so is Hamels, Hughes might eventually come around, Johnson won't make 20 starts. No way would I make that trade.

Bourn is on pace for like 105 steals...while he's only hitting like .220.. if he can hit .260+, could be saying bye bye to rickey henderson's record of 130.

We're only 20 games into the season, projections don't really work at this point. Chipper is "on pace" for 297 hits and Chase Utley is "on pace" to hit 72 HR. Watch out Ichiro and Bonds!

I would say steals are a little different than that though. As long as you're on base, you can control when you steal. Getting pitches to hit is a little different, plus wind conditions, park factors, and um..shit like that. Plus hes 13 for 13 now... And I mean really, Chipper will hit .450+ so I'm not all too concerned with what you say Ernie

is there a website that has baseball players 40 yard dash times?

baseball players usually run the 60 yard dash.. I don't think growing up we ever ran a timed 40, and I'm pretty sure most schools and probably teams measure that way. Either way, I don't know of a website that would list pros, you might be able to find some scouting service that timed them back when they were prospects.

yeah i guess it would make more sense to have times for a 90 foot dash or something more along the lines of baseball...impressive baserunning totals for bourn so far though

Looks like the fastest ever reliably recorded in the 60 is 6.00. Scouts and coaches clock baseball players by hand, and just searching around I saw 6.23 by Justin Upton, 6.1 by Joey Gathright, and the Brewers had a day where everybody ran, and with runners like Bill Hall, Ryan Braun, and Rickie Weeks, the winner was Corey Hart with a 6.59, although Braun supposedly ran a 6.2 in college at Miami. I would say anything you can find (if you wanted to know a particular player just google searching them and 60 yard dash might work) is probably skewed a little. Most of the fastest (Gomez, Reyes, Crawford, Gathright, Bourn) probably run in the 6.3-6.4 range. MLB average is said to be around 7.0

I think the best indicator of a players baseball speed would probably be their time from home to third, since its the longest distance a player runs with any regularity

considering this is a fantasy bball thread, I'm assuming a player's speed is being wanted mostly for his ability to get steals (and possibly runs too)

why don't you guys look at simple stats like steals/single & sb%?

also runs/((hits+walks)-hr) could give you a likelihood of a player's baserunning ability, though not necessarily his speed

I lost my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks to the DL (Alfonso, Bedard and Putz) but I'm still kicking ass

Chase Utley is the man. He's been my #1 pick two years in a row because he is one of the best players in the league and at one of the weakest positions.

I also picked up Victor Martinez in the 5th round. I have the two best players at the two weakest positions. It helps a lot especially when those are black hole positions on most people's teams.

I've got Brandon Phillips and Russell Martin who are also pretty good 2B and C players...Phillips has started kind of slow but Russell is getting it turned around (3/3 last night)...Utley killed me last week in my matchup...he hit 5 HRs in the last 4 games of the week...I lost the HR category 9-8 and also lost RBIs cause of that punk

Also Saltalamachia probably won't be in AAA for more than a couple more weeks

How many teams in your league?

I got Putz in the 7th and that was after I got Papelbon in the 6th. Bedard is also a disappointment so far for being my 2nd round pick.

i fucked up at the end of last week...i was tied in wins and ahead 1 to 3 in losses and ahead in ERA and WHIP...my opponent had Harang pitching so I figured I'd add 1 starter to try and tie him in wins if Harang got a win...well my genius ass self picks Braden Looper against the Giants...he gets rocked, I get a loss and lose WHIP...then CJ Wilson blows a save and gets another loss so I'm tied in losses...and of course Utley comes up on Sunday Night Baseball and I lose the lead in HRs and RBIs...at least Tejada is having a good season...4/5 yesterday with a homer and a stolen base

I'm 26-18-4 (2nd place) and up 6-5 so far this week (6-0 in batting categories, 0-5-1 in pitching categories since I haven't had any pitchers yet)

Gagne is so horrible...another blown save...the Red Sox realized after one year that he wasn't the same as when he was all roided up...meanwhile the Brewers lose one of the best closers in the league in favor of Gagne...rofl...first batter of the top of the 9th and he hits him...what a joke

also:

Miguel Cabrera should gain 1st base eligibility (making him a 1B/3B) in Yahoo leagues after 2 more starts or 3 more times playing at first...and lately Detroit has been playing Renteria at SS, Miguel at 1B and Guillen at DH

thats pretty cool, but 1B is the one position you can usually find somebody to rake, so it doesn't really help that much

doesn't hurt at all tho

yeah Carlos Guillen is 1B/SS this year which is good for me, whereas he was only SS last year

I like to check the eligibility updates...find out about players like Mark Derosa who not only is 1B/2B/3B/OF eligible, but is also having a decent year with a few homers, a 300+ average, double digit runs and rbis, and a steal so far

kinda like Ty Wigginton except he doesnt suck like Wigginton

yeah I picked up Derosa in my main league because we have a transaction cap and he can fill in almost anywhere except C and SS when guys have off days on Mondays or Thursdays

In my other leagues without caps, I just pick up whoever's hot and hope they stay hot whenever they're filling in for me

I'm sitting on Russell Martin but I'm keeping an eye on the Rangers for if/when they bring 1B/C Saltalamachia backup to the bigs

Albert Pujols played second base for a bit in todays game because of all the pinch hitters and extra innings

If any league has 1 game eligibility, this would be like fantasy gold
