That was a greatly shot scene

hahaha. now i know for sure you're nothing but a a troll

i have unfortunately seen all of his movies (usually ends up being friends that rent it) but I have to agree with a lot of other people in this thread. Sixth Sense was actually a pretty good movie. Everything else has been complete garbage.

That being said, I turned down 3 friends who went to see this last night. After asking them how it was at work today, sounds like I made the right choice and saved some money. not one of them liked it. in fact one of them said it was so ridiculous, it seemed more like a parody on his own filmmaking than anything else

I loved his previous movies, except for "Lady" , which was decent. Saw The Happening this afternoon. It had so much potential to be great after the first 30 minutes or so....

Awful.

The film couldn't decide if it wanted to be a silly over-the-top b-movie or a serious thriller. I didn't care at all about the lead performances, I didn't believe Mark and Zoey as a couple, and I can't believe we had a chase sequence with the wind. The only part I enjoyed was seeing how different people would off themselves (if you've seen the trailer you've seen all of them sans the lion suicide). This honestly was worse than Crystal Skulls and that is saying a lot.

Quote :
"What Shyamalan quickly finds, though, is that it's very, very hard to menacingly cut to an evil-looking tree. That doesn't stop him from trying, though, and he inexplicably adds wind as a way of livening up the scenes. When the leaves of a tree start to blow, evil's afoot."

^some of us watched it for free.... and i guess it was almost worth 95 minutes of my life.
I certainly wouldn't recommend spending money on it. I wasn't expecting much to begin with.

So this is interesting because though I'd have a hard time if I had to verbalize anything positive about the movie, I can't exactly say that it wasn't worth my time, or that I didn't have fun with it either. This is odd, as I think it had horrible acting (-the jock dude in Mark's class, and the exchange about growing ears/noses), at best mediocre directing, and OK production quality, but the "wind chase" scenes and how the chemicals were explained really ruined the movie. It could've had 10 minutes of revised material, and maybe another 5 minutes cut out, then it would've had potential.

it wasn't horrible, but i agree about the acting and the cheesy "here comes the trees & grass/wind" thing.

did anyone catch where m. night was cameo in this? i thought it was the scene in 30th st. station in philly, but i'm not sure.

Haha you guys remember that episode of South Park that was making fun of The Day After Tomorrow when the "cold" or whatever was chasing people and they all boarded up inside? That was exactly how the wind chasing thing was. And also, the whole part when he was talking to the house plant and it turned out to be plastic... pretty bad.

Ah. Didn't see the thread in Entertainment.

I've only seen Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs (all three excellent) and The Village (okay), but if you're into M Night's calling card ah-ha moments, this is not the film for you.

Nor is it the film for you if you like coherent characters, coherent plot, plot resoultion, or coherent anything for that matter.

Worst movie I've ever seen.

i like the 6th sense, signs, and unbreakable. even the village was fun for a bit. but yeh, this movie sucked. we were admittedly pulled in by the trailers and we saw this with out prior "research". i hate being disappointed.

i genuinely did like this movie. i didn't go in expecting it to be like other shyamalan movies. since when have we, as a society, wanted unoriginality? i didn't think there was a pacing problem - i would even say that there was an appropriate balance between the campy, b horror film, the funny (and most realistic parts of the film) interactions, and the "wind" chases were done beautifully (i've never felt more urgency from a landscape shot before). i realize that i'm in the very small minority here, but there's nothing you people can say that change my mind about this movie. it's easily my 2nd favorite m. night shyamalan movie behind unbreakable.

I have been a big Shyamalan fan for a while now. Although this moving wasn't (gasp) amazing, it still was entertaining. I don't regret paying to go see it, and although it wasn't the best movie in any accord, I still am glad I attended. Wahlberg did a decent job, although there were a few corny parts.

pretty suspenseful, and it definitely got creepy near the ending with the crazy lady.

good movie as a thriller. I didn't like the ending though, felt like the message came on too strong. I would have ended the movie differently. Since they spent the last half of the movie running away from other people and trying to escape humanity, i would have liked to see an ending where the humans came back together and worked with the plants to stop the toxin (instead of the message that you do what the plants want or you die).

5/10. Decent compared to most movies, shit compared to the director's previous work.

The talking tree branch at the end, as well as plants/trees being HIV positive is still a little too much to buy, even for a suspense movie. I did like the opening construction worker scene with the retarded guy from Rescue Me.

This is the listed plot summary at Wikipedia.

Quote :
"Bees are using the trees as a chemical weapon to cleanse the surface of the Earth. Once the humans are thinned out. The bees will rise up and establish their control over the Earth. the remaining humans are put in concentration camps and gassed until theyre all gone. o ya, Mark Whalberg lives, sorry. M. Night Shamilan has completely lost it."

Who is the studio for this guy? Who keeps paying him to make movies? Is it some kind of Indian Minority Film Club to try and meet racial quotas?

the trees didnt talk or groan or make any noises, dumbasses. it did sorta shake a little. :-D

There was also no connection to the bees and what the plants were doing. the bees dying was just mentioned in the beginning as foreshadowing that mankind would soon be in trouble.

marky marks acting was much worse than any goofy plant scenes.

This is the 2nd worst movie I've ever paid money to see, with Unbreakable being the worst and signs being number 3 on the list.
