You can lose them when you least expect it, I lost mine in May. He was 18 and in perfect health, but my neighbor hit him with his truck. I had him since I was 3

Unless it was a really shitty hunting dog. Too much time and energy goes into a hunting dog to kill it unless it is utterly worthless.2/23/2008 6:06:20 PM |

Hope your dog is doing better man! Just thought I'd throw this out there, but feeding large, deep chested breeds at a raised level is actually considered a risk factor for bloat:

It cost too much to keep over the winter months. 22 in the skull, get a new one for the season.

Not a troll. Just sad all the folks that go into debt for a dumb ass animal. IQ of a lamp - eats its own shit and vomit. If happiness hinges on such a creature - or you are willing to go into debt - perhaps you should reevaluate your life.
Not worth the tears. 2/23/2008 6:48:23 PM |
simonn best gottfriend 28968 Posts user info edit post |
so instead of feeding an animal for the winter, you kill it and buy a new one, and then train it?
maybe it's your father whose iq should be in question. 2/23/2008 6:55:11 PM |

well i don't like being sad and it is expensive to pay for medical bills so i guess i won't have children or be close to any of my family members because it is not worth it. 2/23/2008 7:00:27 PM |

my theory's always been, if they don't know who you are, and you take out the eyes and ears, you're scott free
if they do know who you are, then you got a hellen keller that won't stop screaming your name
anyways, i'm glad the dog is doing better 2/23/2008 8:05:41 PM |

They called me today and said that they wanted to send him home. He hadn't eaten since his surgery on Wednesday and they were fairly certain that it was because his nerves were shot and he was on meds. I picked him up and brought him around 4 then went to Food Lion and grabbed him some hot dogs, pepperoni, broth, and another whole roasted chicken.
When he got home he was content with laying on the floor but I kept holding out food for him. He finally started eating chicken out of my hand, so I carved the bird up and made a plate of chicken, cheese, and bits of hot dog. He went to town and ate about half of it then went back and laid down. He's still pretty sedate and I've found that he has the uncanny ability to find pills in food and spit them out while eating.
Long story short, it looks like he's going to be ok! He's curled up at my feet as I type this. 2/23/2008 9:56:52 PM |

sounds like he'll be ok. you did the equivalent of the "sardine test." If a dog won't eat a sardine, you might as well go ahead and dig a hole. I'm glad your dog is better though. It's amazing how we get attached to them. 2/23/2008 10:58:46 PM |

I lol'd over that. Our dog was the PRO at finding pills in whatever food we put it in, and still be able to spit them out without spitting out the rest of the food. 2/23/2008 11:07:14 PM |

is here the right place to admit that i have eaten animal painkillers (stadol, usually given to pregnant women and spayed cats) when i didnt have anything else. didnt work too well to get you high but it kept the sickness away. omg
glad to hear your dog is better. cant you force feed him somehow, or slide the pill into a treat? i know thats how i get my girlfriend to eat her roofies 2/23/2008 11:31:53 PM |

^ A lot. I was surprised that the 24 hour vet that watched him for 3 nights cost as much as the surgery.
^^ Yeah, there were two of us and we couldn't get his mouth open. Basically if he doesn't want it then it won't happen.
