I can't believe this. Not too long ago we were 15-7 overall, 4-4 in the ACC and in good standing to get in the tournament. Now we are 15-15, 4-12 in the ACC. This team doesn't have mental toughness and there is no consistency to their game. Seriously how hard is it to play hard for 40 minutes. There should be no drop off in intensity when new players are substituted in. I'll be glad when Sid has all of his players here. At least we'll know that he recruits guys that play hard most of the time. I know JJ and the other freshmen make mistakes, but that's what freshmen do. I definitely am not disappointed in JJ, Tracy, and Javi. They play hard and that's why JJ and Tracy are starting now. I hope this is just a sophomore slump for Sid. 3/8/2008 7:16:02 PM |

Looks like for the moment we are in 11th going by overall records. Possible first round game against Miami. UVA plays at home vs. Maryland that will most likely make it a 3 way tie for the cellar. Could put us at 10th and a game against Wake Forest in the first round if you go by theacc.com website. State and Wake playing twice in one week is eerily similar to the 2006 ACCT.

I thought the first tie breaker was head-to-head, not overall record. 3/8/2008 9:08:16 PM |

Yeah, ^he's right. Found the ACC Tournament seeding formula for ties.
1 - When two teams are tied in the standings, regular season head-to-head results are used as the tie-breaker. 2 - If the two teams split their regular season games, the tie is broken by comparing each team's records against the team occupying the highest position in the standings, and then continuing down until one team gains an advantage. 3 - If three or more teams are tied, the combined record of each team against the other teams involved is used to break the tie. After this procedure, if two teams remain tied procedure 2 is followed. 4 - If procedures 2 and/or 3 fail to establish an advantage, a coin-flip to break the tie will be conducted by the Commissioner. 5 - If there is more than one tie in the standings, and when utilizing the tie breaking procedures you come to a pair of teams tied, a team's record against combined tied teams is used, rather than performance against the individual tied teams.
Ignore my previous post up there. I thought the ACC website knew something I didn't. Gotta do research. Yay for 12 seed!

Postgame audio on packpride
Gavin says something along the lines of "we have all the talent in the world but we cant put it together for 40 minutes" after game 8 of an 8 game losing streak.
Gavin is delusional. I'm sorry. I love him as a player, but comments like those disturb me. He's had a few head scratchers this year.
I'm probably going to get slammed for saying this, especially considering Gavin has gotten better in the last 2 seasons, but I think losing him will be addition by subtraction next year. He seems like he does all the right things, but there's something wierd about the way he plays/carries himself that doesn't sit right with me. I can't put my finger on it, but it bothers me.

^I agree with that somewhat because after Hodge left we picked right up where we were and still finished 4th in the ACC and went 10-6..... 3/9/2008 12:51:05 AM |

wat?
If you're trying to say that Grant picked up where hodge left off, you're nuts. We had 3 good guards on that team that I'd KILL to have playing right now in Bethel, Atsur, and Bennerman. Thats 2 seniors and a junior the year after Hodge graduated. We were loaded that year, and choked it away late in the season. You're still mad that Herb's gone.
If thats not what you're saying, Sorry.
I just feel like Gavin has had some of his best games in losses, and he's ok with that. He never really takes the blame for turning the ball over, he tries to do too much sometimes, and honestly he's about half the player Hodge was with 1/4 of the heart.

That's not what I am saying at all.....I was merely saying that when our vocal leader Hodge left we still were a competitive team (actually better in ACC play). I was commenting more on the way he carries himself and talks and stuff.

Not really. People say this all the time because I liked Herb and defend him. I am pissed that we didn't get someone better or who could build on what he started.3/9/2008 1:17:53 AM |

Ok I wasn't sure but I was going to bed and I just wanted to add my 2 cents.
Although, I don't think Gavin gets the credit for that. He didn't play a ton of minutes that year until the end of the season when we were tanking. I think the big reason we were 10-6 was our guard play in 2 seniors and a junior, all of whom could shoot the lights out of the ball that year...even Bennerman.
I'm not saying we NEED a vocal leader, but something bugs me about the way Gavin carries himself and I think its hurting us more than anything. I think thats the part that you're agreeing with. 3/9/2008 6:55:18 AM |
