Tell me how the fuck UNC is going to do so well without offensive linemen. Their o-line recruiting has sucked donkey balls.

2007 - four offensive linemen. one 4*, one 3*, two 2*
2008 - ONE OFFENSIVE LINEMAN! 3*
2009 - one offensive lineman so far, and they don't have that much more room left. 3*

Bitch Davis is a Chuck Amato clone.

^ just for comparisons sake... if you can find another coach who has taken a program with a lot of potential that was horrible and then got better with a new coach within 2-3 years feel free to use that analogy in place of it...

^^ if he was going to leave it would have been this year to Indiana... that was his dream job.

Or he knew how big of a clusterfuck the Indiana job would be so he stayed put, they only have like 2 scholarship players returning, it's gonna take Crean at least 3 years to turn that ship around

Lavin to Howland. National Championship game in three years after a 10-19 season with Lavin. (edit) Just checked wiki, Lavin was 10-19, fired, then Howland went 11-17, 1st round NCAA's, NC game, then two more Final Fours. #4 and #5 draft picks this year.

Oh yeah, remember all the State fans who wanted Lavin after Sendek left?

EPIC LOL

"Gators Get Thin at Safety

At one time the safety position at Florida was loaded. Now, not so much.

Attrition due to injuries and dismissal have made for a somewhat precarious situation in the defensive backfield. Jerimy Finch transferred to Indiana after an injury cut short his first year. Jamar "Tomb Raider" Hornsby was booted off the team in May for felonious use of a stolen gas card. To top it off, four-star prospect Dee Finley was unable to qualify academically. Now word from head coach Urban Meyer indicates that Dorian Munroe (junior, 6-0, 191 lbs.) and John Curtis, a walk-on are both out for the year with knee injuries.

Meyer was quoted as saying that both players were having "tremendous" offseasons, and that while he expected Munroe to return a stronger and better player in 2009, John Curtis' long-term future in football will have to be "evaluated".

The Gators are likely to start sophomore Major Wright, whose freshman season showed plenty of promise. But who will play alongside of him? Incoming superfrosh Will Hill may get a look at one of the two safety positions, but as far as a two-deep goes, it's anyone's guess.

This was once thought to be a position of strength for the 2008 Gators, but now the secondary is hanging by a thread."

FSU is now offering discounted season tickets to students at Tallahassee Community College.

Quote :
"For a limited time, TCC students can purchase a 2008 FSU football season ticket for only $179. That's almost half off the regular price of $312. A season ticket includes a reserved seat for all seven home games, including ACC games against Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Clemson and Boston College, and is the only way to get a ticket for the home game against the Florida Gators."

I thought this was pretty funny... Pac-10 tickets are really in high demand

Quote :
"For Georgia fans unable to purchase tickets to the September 20, game against Arizona State in Tempe, the cost is $99.00. That is the price for a season ticket to see the Sun Devils, and it includes a ticket to the UGA game. If demand for season tickets to see the Bulldogs is as great next year as it was this year, an Arizona State fan will have to pony up $10,652.00 for a single season ticket in Athens"

That's crazy cause it's a Gameday game too. There isn't a great demand for ASU season tickets as it's over 100 degrees for every game and it's all aluminum seating. I was at the Buffs/ASU game last year and it was 102 degrees for the 8:00 kickoff.

I was living there in 1996 and went to the game they beat up on Nebraska, who was undefeated and Natl. Champs in 1995. ASU went undefeated that year and the Nebraska was the only one close to being a sellout.

National Title contenders, who ya got?

Clemson - They are my darkhorse candidate even though Tammy Bowden will probably choke and lose a game that keeps them out of it. They should run through the ACC (keyword being should) despite their lack of experience on the offensive line.

WVU - Bill Stewart could have a Larry Coker like first year in Morgantown, but will he follow the same path that Coker did? The Mountaineers should be the class of the Big East again with Pat White back for his senior season. The loss of Steve Slaton will be somewhat filled with the insanely fast Noel Devine who had a crazy rushing average per attempt as a true freshman. Devine is a home run threat every time he touches the ball. Look for Stewart to have more trust in White's arm and see him throwing more this year.

Oklahoma - The defending Big XII champs return a ton, and at times looked scary good last year. Why they have sucked so badly in BCS bowls since 2000 is puzzling. QB Sam Bradford was one of the best freshmen nationally last year and should be even better this year. They shouldn't have much trouble in the Big XII South even despite Texas having similar overall talent level and Texas Tech perhaps being even better than they normally are.

Southern Cal - Does this really need to be explained? The only question mark is Mark Sanchez who looked only decent and threw a fair amount of interceptions while filling in for John David Booty while he was injured. They shouldn't really be challenged by anyone in Pac 10 play save for Arizona State. The game against tOSU has the potential to decide who plays in the national championship game.

Georgia - The hottest team to end the season will have a ton of hype entering the season as they are many people's No. 1 team in the nation. They have a brutal schedule and still need to show that they can beat Tennessee a team that they have lost to for the past two seasons in embarrassing fashion. The loss to the Vols kept them out of the SEC Title game and a potential shot at the BCS National Championship game. Florida will also be a tough obstacle as the Gators will be seeking revenge for what took place in Jacksonville last season.

Florida - Led by Tim Tebow, the returning Heisman Trophy winner and supposedly the greatest player of our era according to Urban Meyer , the Gators look like they will be once again in the hunt for a national championship. Their one concern is the secondary which has seen losses in the offseason, so much so that a freshman or two may have to play. With an improved backfield, which includes USC transfer Emmanuel Moody, the Gators won't have to rely on Tebow to run as much as he did last year. Last season Tebow became the first player in NCAA history to score 20 touchdowns rushing and 20 touchdowns passing in the same season. At the end of the season he had 32 passing touchdowns, and 23 rushing touchdowns for a staggering total of 55 TDs. The road to the SEC East title, the SEC Championship game, and a possible berth in the national title game goes through Georgia.

Ohio State - After two straight embarrassing beat downs at the hands of the SEC in national championship games the Buckeyes are looking to get redemption. They return a ton of talent. With their highly anticipated game against the Trojans of Southern Cal looming early on in the season, the Buckeyes will be tested early on. If they get by the Trojans it seems like they would have a cakewalk through their Big 10 conference slate. Even if the Buckeyes lose to the Trojans they may still be in the national title hunt. The loss would be early enough that it wouldn't hurt them as bad as if it were toward the end of the year. If there is at most only one undefeated team and a bunch of one and two loss teams tOSU could sneak into the title game provided it is not against USC. Most voters will say that tOSU had their shot against them in the regular season and another team needs to be given a shot. A similar situation thankfully happened in 2006 when Florida leapfrogged Michigan to play and ultimately demolish the Buckeyes in that year's championship game (note: it's no secret that I like Michigan and have rooted for them since I was 4 or 5, but for the sake of the game I had no problem with Florida getting their shot to take on tOSU. We had our shot and didn't capitalize on it. Other Michigan fans felt differently and they were wrong for thinking so.)

Teams I feel have very outside shots include:

Mizzou - The loss of Tony Temple hurts and they are cursed against OU having only beaten the Sooners once since 1981.

VT - The Hokies lose a ton, but Beamer is known for reloading with well coached talent that overachieves based on their rankings coming out of high school. How will their running game fair is one of the biggest off-season questions for the Hokies outside of will their defense continue their stingy ways.

Auburn - Don't sleep on the SEC West. The SEC East looks to be the best of the two divisions, but Auburn has been a thorn in the side of Florida for awhile now. Tommy Tuberville is one hell of a coach. His arrival at Auburn has seen him win over 70% of his games and win at least a share of the SEC West in 5 of his 9 years. The Tigers should be solid again this year and perhaps win the SEC West

LSU - The defending national champions lose a fair amount, but they are at the point where they are reloading at most of the positions. The biggest question mark is at QB with Ryan Perilloux's dumbass being kicked off the team after numerous second chances.

Texas - Year in and year out the Longhorns have some of the best talent in the nation. The problem comes in it finally all coming together like it did in 2005 and their annual meeting with Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl. Will this be the year? I personally think not, but you can never count them out."

"The ACC's Dismal State of Being

by Ryan Ferguson

If you were to ask a handful moderately knowledgeable college football fans to rank the BCS conferences, most would probably place the ACC last or close to last. And they'd be right.

And Tony Barnhart has some powerful stats to support them.

- 1-9: The ACC's record in BCS Bowl games. The league has won only once on college football's biggest stage, and that came when Florida State beat Virginia Tech, which then was not a league member, in the Sugar Bowl for the 1999 national championship. The ACC has lost nine straight BCS games.

- 2-17: The ACC's record against non-conference teams ranked in the top 10 the past four years.

- 9-31: The ACC's record against non-conference teams ranked in the top 25 the past four years.

- 0: The number of times the ACC has received an at-large bid to a BCS game.

Great googly moogly! That's horrendous. While much of the luster wore off with FSU and Miami's precipitous fall from grace, these numbers show that the problem is more widespread than two marquee teams. The conference as a whole has been entirely uncompetitive in recent -- and not so recent -- memory."

You all know why Tommy Bowden got the nickname Tammy don't you? During the 2001 game simply known as the "Woody Dantzler Game", Tommy supposedly started crying during and after the game about the number of penalties his team was called for and I think even took some menial penalty (delay of game iirc) toward the end of the game to tie a record for number of penalties in a game to "try and prove a point", and also accused the State coaching staff in the press box of looking at TV monitors as a way of gaining an advantage. Because of Tommy Bowden's crying everyone began calling him Tammy like Tammy Faye Baker who is famous for her crying on TV bit.

"Tar Heels Frightened To Face Appalachian State

If a state-run school in North Carolina has a college football team and is a member of the ACC, they are almost required to throw a little love to the other state-run, yet lesser known, institutions. It’s what NC State did by bringing Appalachian State into Carter-Finley Stadium a few years ago and taking care of business.

But the powder-blue boys of Chapel Hill and head coach Butch Davis apparently want nothing to do with the upstart Mountaineers (who just create college football grudges). According to the GREENVILLE NEWS CHIEF (via 850 THE BUZZ), the Heels are refusing to play their fellow Carolinians.

Appalachian State has played North Carolina in football only once - in 1940.

Mountaineers coach Jerry Moore is trying to end the drought.

Moore acknowledged Wednesday that he’s tried to get the Tar Heels on their schedule. So far, North Carolina has balked.

Moore said he’s puzzled why the Tar Heels scheduled McNeese State for their season opener instead of the Mountaineers. He said a matchup with North Carolina would be a “great football game” and “good for the state.”

Well, if you continued to be puzzled, Jer, let me fill in the blanks for you as to why UNC want nothing to do with your ‘Neers.

The Tar Heels have some grandiose vision of an ACC title in their mind, already, with safety Deunta Williams almost guaranteeing it.

Yes, it seems aggressive. But it would at least seem a little worthwhile if Butch Davis and Athletic Director Dick Baddour had the stones to pony up and play a tough in-state rival.

All of this, despite the the WASHINGTON POST informing us that the ACC is going to have nine bowl games next year. Which means that even when the Tar Heels hit head first against the brick wall that is reality, by getting all boot-quaky about their Boone-bound neighbors, they’ll still end up heading to the postseason.

Which, by the way, is ridiculous. I mean, we get it — more colleges need more money for more football. And I think everyone is completely down with that. It becomes problematic, however, when you have NC State, Carolina, Duke and Miami (a combined 8-24 in the ACC last year) all fighting to get that sixth win and become bowl eligible. Not just because it’s ugly, but because it involves scheduling sandbag games like McNeese State over a willing in-state opponent like Appalachian."

"Syracuse Football Is Over

Syracuse had a good run. Donovan McNabb, Jim Brown, the #44, a stadium named after air conditioning: all good stuff. But they've been teetering on the edge of oblivion for going on ten years now, and I'm sad to say that Syracuse football has just ceased to be:

Darrick Scott, the Orange's top recruit for the class of 2009, announced tonight he is de-commiting from SU in favor of Central Michigan, according to a report on Scout.com.

He wasn't even that much of a "top recruit": Scott's a four-star recruit to Scout but garners only two from Rivals and gets a bleah 72/100 from ESPN, which looks more like one overly enthusiastic Darrick Scott fan hacking into the Scout database than anything else. And yet: he's headed to Central Michigan.

Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician, for its part:

So we are clear, this kid looked at Syracuse, then looked at Central Michigan, looked back at Syracuse, looked again at Central Michigan and then decided he was better off at the MAC school. ...

All Syracuse fans have been advised to stay away from sharp objects and anything that could be fashioned into a weapon. If you know a Syracuse fan, please keep a close watch on them and alert the authorities at the first sign of trouble.

I think we're well beyond the "first signs of trouble." What are the odds Greg Robinson gets fired after this year? 9000 percent?"

Spurrier takes shot at Clemson sites

FIRST PRACTICE
The USC football team’s first practice will be open to the public. The practice is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at the practice field across the street from Williams-Brice Stadium.

Steve Spurrier took a shot at another opponent Tuesday: Web sites that cover Clemson.

The USC coach claimed that someone working for a Clemson fan site has been mailing recruits and sending them articles about Gamecock players having brushes with the law. He didn’t name the site, and the publishers of two Tiger fan sites denied the allegation.

Spurrier opened a news conference by pointing out that marijuana possession charges against Dion LeCorn were dropped on Monday.

“Usually when a guy’s arrested for whatever, that always make the headlines. And the guy that runs the Clemson Web site, he likes to send those articles to recruits all over the state,” Spurrier said after a golf media outing at Woodcreek Farms Country Club in Elgin.

“So I just wondered if he sends the articles about all charges dropped. So you guys that know that dude over there, tell him he can add that one today hopefully when he sends them out.”

Cris Ard, the publisher of TigerIllustrated.com, and Roy Philpott, publisher of CUTigers.com, both denied any involvement.

“I, nor anyone affiliated with TigerIllustrated.com, has ever, ever had any such correspondence, exchange or released or sent documentation of any kind to any prospective recruit or student-athlete,” Ard said.

Philpott echoed that response.

“CUTigers.com has never sent brochures or information regarding anything to any recruit, nor have any of our employers done so, ever,” he said.

Since Dec. 31, seven USC players have been arrested or cited, and charges have been dropped in three of those cases (LeCorn, Kevin Young and Mike Newton). Spurrier pointed out that a men’s basketball player (Devan Downey) also had a misdemeanor charge dropped.

The off-field problems at Penn State were the focus of a story on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” on Sunday, which Spurrier said he watched.

“We’re not perfect here, and our guys have had some issues. But I don’t think we’ve quite had some acts that have happened across the country,” he said. “We’re trying to do better, as are all schools, and hopefully our players will act in a first-class manner.

this is a blurb from a SC fan on packpride:
"The coaches had been hearing about the infamous packages given to recruits that were interested in both schools, Carolina and Clemson. The envelopes contained info. among other things on all the players at Carolina that had brushes with the law...attempting to show what kind of bad things can happen if you go to USC. They didn't mention the outcomes of the arrests, like where players had been wrongly arrested or where the charges were dropped, just that they had gotten in trouble. Anyway, while one of the recruits were being shown around campus his mother produced a package and asked the coach to tell her about it, she already knew what the intention of the package was but wanted the coaches to know she had recieved one. The packages are professionally done and sent to the recruits by coach Napier at Clemson. Now I'm sure Clemson fans will put their spin on this and say it isn't happening but it won't be long before this issue is made public. All schools do some questionable things on the recruiting trail, including us. But this is kind of low even for the farmers!"

good article, 15 questions about the upcoming season...

says there are no plans to get rid of the crown on the football field, even though we are the only team left in the ACC with a crown on the field

also, regarding addition to the stadium

And, coming soon, two new features will be prominently displayed: The Earle Edwards Arch at the North End Zone entrance and something new at the South End Zone tunnel where the Wolfpack players enter the field.

More on that addition at a later date.
