^x6couldn't have said it better. those who really don't know and see the world through tunneled view really shouldn't comment. sayings its someones fault for living far out is the most idiotic thing i've heard in a while, and i'm on chit chat a lot, so thats saying something. what if you don't make enough at your job to live close enough? housing is typically cheaper further out. maybe people have kids to support and college educations for them for which they are saving. Where you buy a house isn't as simple as move to location x or location y, there are factors that go into it like school quality, neighborhood safety, house age, resell value, etc...

Quote : | "My point was referring to Saddam's whole reasoning behind the invasion of Kuwait that caused the first Gulf War. His 8 year war with Iran had dipped into the treasury and he was on the verge of going broke. If he hadn't looked to Kuwait for it's oil, he would likely be facing revolution. Iraq's oil reserves weren't enough. Gaining access to Kuwait essentially doubled his supply." |
No. Kuwait was drilling into Iraq and using their resources. This had been going on for some time and Saddam had even sent in a letter to Bush I to tell Kuwait to stop, but he refused. The result was Saddam invading Kuwait. We only gathered enough support to invade Iraq because we put some girl on TV saying she was a poor Kuwaiti refugee and that she had seen Saddam's soldiers take out baby's that were premature from their plastic containers and throw the babies on the ground and taking the containers. It turned out that this girl had never even been to Kuwait, she was the daughter of the ambassador to Kuwait.
One more thing, gas really was 4.15 at Cornado beach two weeks ago. I saw it with my own eyes.

Yeah, the people who are like "it doesnt hurt that much" have to realize that some of us are different and use more gas. And maybe it's a choice, but maybe it isn't.
For example, my aforementioned boat. Gas going up 30 cents might not make that much difference to you when you use 10 gallons a week, but between my car and boat, that's a huge chunk of change. 3/13/2008 10:00:04 AM |

Quote : | "So how high will gas prices go?
While several areas will see prices over $4 a gallon, Kloza said he expects the nationwide average to peak somewhere between $3.50 and $3.75. Kilduff is calling for a high of $3.50, and Statts thinks we'll see the $3.30s.
All three analysts think prices will peak early, in April or May, then decline as the economy worsens and demand for gas - already flat or falling - continues to deteriorate.
"[The falloff in demand] that occurs around $3.25 a gallon takes a lot of the mojo out of gasoline," said Kloza. "These prices are real speed bumps for the economy."
By July 4, when many Americans pack up the sedan and head for the mountains or beach, prices could be back around $3. If anyone can still afford a vacation.

they invaded Kuwait because Kuwait was increasing oil production WAY above OPEC quotas, crushing the oil-driven Iraqi economy that was already reeling from the war with Iran, and Kuwait was slant-drilling and taking oil from Iraqi oil reserves.

I'm pretty sure the last Depression was fairly global too. You just don't hear about the other countries because Asia wasn't as developed and Europe was between World Wars. They were still affected though.
If there is gonna be another one though, there's basically no way it wouldn't be global. 4/28/2008 8:17:17 PM |
