played it for a good bit tonight with friends and online too. online's awesome. i hate that you can't turn teams off in battle mode...at least i don't think you can, can you?

the wheel i hated, but i only used it for a couple races so i probably didn't give it a fair chance. i'm sure once i got used to it, it would be fine. so, you people who have gotten used to it, do you actually prefer the wheel over the gc controller and wii controller with nunchuk? are you better with the wheel?

the AI is pretty cheap. cheaper than games past i think.

but over the game's awesome from the few hours i played tonight.

oh...and double dash pwns mk 64 (although that was awesome too)

so I'm starting to get used to the new power slide, even if I really can't stand it. I like the music in this game and the rich colors. Both are fucking sweet. The online Battle Mode is seriously the shit. The Coin game is kind of lame, but the standard balloon matches are a blast. One more thing though........this game doesn't feel as '"fast" as previous games. Maybe it's just me, but on 150cc the game just seems slower. The AI is cheap as hell too. I've had several situations already where I'll be hit with a spiny and then a red immediately after, or I'll get hit by literally 4 green shells in a row, or somebody will snipe me with a banana from really far away, etc etc.... The computer is way too good with items this time around. The flip side is that place doesn't matter until the very end. I've had several races where I went from 1st to 12th and back to 1st again.

Actually I'm not too entirely sure that is the case. I have been playing primarily as Waluigi on the standard kart (with the wheel). It does do the mini boost by just holding it, but I swear that if I turn left-right-left while in a slide, it gives me the boost faster. The thing is that I just have to really crank that wheel to get it to activate.

And also, the balloon battle mode is really fun.

wiimote and nunchuck definitely the way to go. Easy to drift, precise controls and easier to pull of tricks then any of the other ones. This game is highly boring to me when I play with the GC controller after using mote + chuck.
I think I like bikes more because of the speed boost when you pop a wheelie helps so much on straight ways.

To unlock the other cup races you have to beat the first two, I got first place in both but I assume you just have to place. So to get star cup beat mushroom and fire, then beating star gives special. The retro cups work the same way

you have to unlock them separate for Grand Prix in all the ccs, but unlocking one cc set will unlock the tracks for multiplayer

My complaints with the wheel are that, unless I'm missing something, you can't hold an item behind you and I hate using '2' to accelerate. It's fun otherwise.

i just got it and played online...
few questions

1. when i played battle, it gave me no choice between coin or balloon game. how do you choose?

2. i was playing battle and i lost all 3 balloons, yet it let me keep going... is it always like this? can you ever do "last man standing?"

3. the score was 4-4 even playing balloons, all of a sudden it went to 5-3, how did one team lost a point all of a sudden?

^u choose automatic or manual drift. if you choose automatic i think the drift just comes sometimes based on how hard you turn. i do manual, and you press the b trigger to jump if u play nunchuk style. if you use the wheel i'm not sure how you jump.

^^1. i don't think you can choose. i think it's random or goes back and forth. not sure.

2. if you can do last man standing i haven't found out how. pretty lame imo. you get negative points though for your team if you lose all three (i think)

3. someone probably lost all their balloons. the other team gets a point for shooting the guy, and if it was the guy's last balloon then his team loses a point (i think)

I haven't noticed any real issues except that you have to back all the way out to change karts/characters and that resets the win/lose record. I think that sucks. What problems are you finding?

i'm up for some mario kart tonight even though i'm terrible at battle mode. well, i'm not really good at any mode, but i'm especially bad at battle mode. i was having one good round with the coins only to end up losin all but 2 after getting hit twice in about 4 seconds right before the game ended. it was demoralizing.

gives me error code 61010, which support.nintendo.com says could be due to their servers "trying to handle an unusually high amount of traffic (especially if you are trying to play online with a recently-released or popular game, or if there is a new Wii system update). ^oh good call...i posted my wii code earlier but that's different than your mk code...go into the mario kart channel and go to friends and you can see your number...it's only 12 digits instead of 16.

The major one is that you can't play free-for-all battles. like someone said earlier, for a lot of people it's the entire point of mario kart.
team battles are a cool addition to the game, but it fucking sucks when you only have 3 people playing since you can only do 2v1.

multiplayer races suffer from the crappy item distribution.
either you have the bots on (which I don't, because bots are retarded to have in local mp) and get the same ridiculous item spam from the single player mode, or you turn the bots off and get the items that only people in the lead positions normally get. (good luck catching up to someone who got an early lead with only green shells and banana peels.) granted, I haven't tried the 'aggressive' item setting yet - but the game should be 'smart' enough to drop appropriate items
