it would not of been physically impossible to stop if you were following at a safe distance, which is even further away when it is raining...that is the whole meaning of safe distance....

^^^ Well I was taught that 2 seconds behind the car in front of you is enough. But think about it. If they had hit the Firebird because it crossed into their lane and they're usual stopping distance was cut from 100 ft to 30 ft because it hit the other car, that would decrease the distance I had to stop as well.

^^^^ Also, I'm sorry that I'm in college and my parents aren't fucking rich. I have other shit I have to pay for and getting the bare minimum on insurance is all I can afford.

that's not even usually enough in great weather

I witnessed exactly that type of accident. The front car lost control, the second car hit it, and the third car hit the second. The car in the front was assigned fault and got a wreckless driving citation (driving between lanes), car 3 got assigned blame for following too closely, but no ticket.

If you run into the back of someone, it is almost impossible to avoid being blamed without witnesses and a police report stating that the other driver was doing something reckless, failing to yield, or something else.

In that situation, you'd probably have grounds to sue the unsafe driver, but it's doubtful you'd get anything from insurance.

stop being a fucking dickbag, i have the usual more or less comprehensive car insurance. yes it costs more

agree

about the lack of abs, you do know how to brake hard correctly with standard brakes then?

on another note, if you get hit and you hit the car in front of you your 'fault'
if you hit cars in front of you as a result of them colliding your 'fault'
it does suck though

sucks that the whole thing was more or less caused by a inexperienced kid

I got just liability...mainly because probably in the next couple years i will get another one....but my car has done well so far and I keep putting it off.....luckily, I have a rainy day fund for any unexpected expenses.

[Edited on March 15, 2008 at 5:36 PM. Reason : when your car is like 10+ years old it isnt worth having comprehensive]

that's a huge oversimplification

and if you're going to cut it with an ax and make a statement like that, i'd say make it more like 15 years, maybe 20.

unless its my old car. when i wrecked it, it wasnt even that bad. but i still traded the title to the guy to cover the tow bill. i washed my hands of that car. turned out to be a perfect situation. but i didnt wreck on purpose i swear!

^i find it hard to believe that a guy with such a gay pothead screen name smokes less than a gram a month. but whatever

depends on what type of car you have.....Duke, i know you are into pimped out cars and shit....so it would be different...but usually 10+ year old car isnt worth having it, by then a typical cars value isnt worth much, i would never keep it for anything over 12 unless it was some high priced vehicle, which a majority of twwers dont have. If you keep it on a 15 year old typical car, your just wasting money(which is basically true for any insurance when you dont have accidents, but oh well, that is life)

he probably freaked out when he had the accident, made sure all the weed was gone and sprayed air freshener in the car

he might even had been smokin one after a hard day of work.

yea, I can agree to that. when you spend only a few grand on a car it'd only take a year or two of extra insurance premiums to buy the car again, i know i never had anything past liability until I got something worth over $10K

bitching is the only thing you can do right now.

insurance views it as your fault. you're fucked.

Dont worry about it anymore. there isnt anything you can do about it now.

"I didn't even get a ticket for this."

As it's been said many many times, just because you don't get a ticket doesn't mean you aren't at fault. A guy ran a red light and hit me, he even admited that he hit me, but he didn't get a ticket for anything. The insurance still blamed it on him, because he ran the red light. He was at fault plain and simple.

Quote :
"Honestly, who follows all safety precautions when you're on the beltline?

Apparently, many people do, because they haven't gotten into a wreck from following too close.

Quote :
"understand the concept of "it's always your fault for running into the back of someone." What pisses me off is that it wouldn't have happened if the dick in the camaro hadn't been an idiot and I would still have a car."

What you are forgetting here is that, even thought the camero guy fucked up, it wouldn't have happened if you weren't following too close. If you were far enough away from the lexus then you would have had plenty of time to stop and you could have gone on your way, or been a good guy and stopped to make sure that kid was okay. If you had been following the laws of driving then you wouldn't be in that position.
I know you're mad at yourself for fucking up, but you gotta man up to this, you gotta accept the fact that you are the only one who caused this to happen.

So now you're calling me a whore...I may be a whore, but at least I own up to the fact that it's my fault I'm a whore.

Unless we're talking in your terms then techincally it's not my fault. If I wasn't made fun of in elementary school then I would have never had low self esteem, which allowed guys to see how easy I could be. If my daddy had been more loving then I would have had enough logical thought to stop soon enough, but I didn't, it was also raining when I became a whore. Also...I NEVER GOT PAID FOR SEX! SO IT'S NO PROOF I'M A WHORE!!!

since no one else asked yet...
why were you going to work at the soccer fields if it was raining? i feel like you could avoided the whole situation if you'd been excused from work due to a tornado watch.

I'm going to have to agree with the theDuke866 who stated, "that's a huge oversimplification."
A lot depends on the car (age, value, how it holds value, it is also related to the other factors below), your company (this is a big one), your record (also huge), your location (also huge), your financial situation (can you afford to buy another car out of pocket or with payments), your deductibles (high, med, low), etc.

My car in RAL is 7 years old at around 10k value, no record, raleigh nc, can afford another fully out of pocket, very low deductibles do to being near state and parking there.

Full coverage is 67 dollars a month w/max rental car and towing (hence full coverage may not be as expensive as made out to be in many cases).

^^ just giving him a hard time because of his screename and the fact that for a few extra bills a month he could have had full coverage if he was that broke.

On my old car (my 94' Accord), I couldn't afford full coverage on it either; just had liability. Had my first and ONLY *knock on wood* accident in a DAMN parking lot. This jackass was flying through CUTTING across parking lanes on some old Firebired or some shit (an 80 something P.O.S) and hit the shit out my front of the car and side (didn't mess up the door though) but took the entire front bumper off and pushed up the hood and frame of the car. Anyway, my point is, even though that WASN'T my fault either NOR did I receive a ticket from it, I STILL got like 2-3 points on my INSURANCE. And as of this month, it had been 3 years and it's FINALLY off my record and I have full coverage for ONLY $72.72 on my new(er) Accord COUPE (and it's even RED and V6).....CHYEA!
