I have noticed it really piss's people off who want to get off on lake boone (inner exit).

they make a point to use the off ramp to accelerate in front of my car. They then look over at me with the "i showed you face" and slam on the brakes to take the exit ramp.

It may cause them road raige but it is funny.

I also own a sports car but I don't speed around on the highway. Its the most boring kind of road. May as well go 60mph.

the guy in our [architectural] office who says "An-gee-o graphy" instead of "an-gee-OG-graphy". he's the guy who also says "to where" and "heighth"

people who spell out internet abbreviations using phonetics (such as tee instead of T in ttyl). they're abbreviated for a reason...

eckerds, best buys, THE walmart, barnes & nobles, belks, etc

"so-jur" instead of soldier...attn pam saulsby on wral

I'm theorizing that people aren't really pluralizing all those stores. I think they're personifying them. As in JC Penney becomes JC Penney's (store). I think it might be a lingering concept from when stores were all named after their owners (penney's macy's belk's etc).

So in conclusion;

"I'm going to Belks." makes no sense to me.

but

"I'm going to Belk's." makes sense to me.

^^yeah, i think that's what they're doing too, but...

the store is called Belk and "i'm going to Belk" works just fine.

says 'cutting on' or 'cutting off' the lights

uses 'whenever' instead of just 'when' (ex: whenever i was in class today...)

doesn't know the difference between they're/their/there and you're/your

abbreviates you with u and to/too with 2

Based on this thread, we hate anyone who writes for the Technician.

I immediately hate anyone who can't spell and who talks in some kind of dialect. Accents are okay and even endearing.

"hot water heater" wtf
"the current" in reference to electricity (in the house)...this is mostly a grandma thing
"acurn" instead of acorn
"halapena" instead of ha-la-peen-yo
"tor-til-la" instead of tor-tee-ya
"poll-lo" instead of pol-yo

of course those last 3 are spanish, and although they are quite common i guess i can't expect everybody to know how to pronounce them correctly.

What about people who say tuesdee and mondee and thursdee and fridee and sundee and wednesdee and saturdee instead of pronouncing the day part?

I kinda like those people.

in my experience, most of the errors in a Technician article are added by the various editors after the article is submitted by its author

I've lived in Atlanta for about two months now on Ponce but I still don't really know how to say it. I've heard "duh lee-on" and "duh lee-uhn" about equally. So I tend to just keep it simple and say Ponce.

It aggravates me to hear "...And then there were (insert number)."

It's so overused in the media. And it just sounds so damn dramatic.

I don't know-- it just annoys me. I can't explain it.
