so is it your belief hooksaw that if we polled all of nc states campus that there would be a sizable people who would answer "Rat is a slur towards what group of people" an overwhelming proportion would answer 'jews'? If not a large percentage, then what? 50? 25? 15? 5?

My guess would be somewhere <1%. Its not used common enough to establish it as a slur against specifically 'jews'. As has been stated numerous times thus far, rats or other types of animals are frequently used to describe any group that people don't particularly care for, but doesn't directly apply to any one group.

Just because the Nazis like to call rats jews doesn't mean all instances of the word "rat" are a slur on jews.

I don't know anyone who would hear the word "rat" and think jew. You'd have to be old or a horrible anti-semite to think this, i'd imagine.

For example, the phrase "rat bastard" is used very commonly, but it's never meant to imply anything with the jews. You could say "jew rat bastard" but its obvious that someone is trying to smack-talk the jews there. And maybe in nazi germany if you called someone a ratte they might have known you were talking about a jew, but no one in the US now would likely make this assumption.
