Someone just dropped Warrick Dunn. Think he be worth a pick up on waivers?
I dropped my DL Amobi Okoye and picked up Dunn. Just to add a lil depth in case I could not get another starting RB.

No, Dunn is Done. If anything, Sammy Morris or Michael Bennett would be better suited to fill and end of bench spot in a 12 man league. 8/19/2008 9:44:44 AM |

I disagree, Dunn is not done. He's getting paid more than Graham IIRC. Graham will get a few more carries, but Dunn will make it up with receptions. Graham will also get the goal line carries, but I think Dunn is a worthy backup in deeper and ppr leagues.

I was thinking along the lines of Turnip. That Dunn still has some juice left and will be viable in passes out the backfield and getting slightly more carries, although Graham will get goal line carries.
Those backs named have been taken. I have to say, this league is very sports knowledgeable and the pickings now are slim. No one is wanting to get rid of backs to easily b/c of how FF is scored.
I am trying to hold out to see wassup on Johnsons shoulders, before I make a real move. I think he would be a good compliment even with giving up Calvin Johnson.

Quote : | "Warrick Dunn was released by the Atlanta Falcons after a disappointing 2007 season in which he rushed for just 720 yards and 4 TD's as the starting running back. Dunn is now 33 and at his age (combined with a lengthy injury history), his durability is questionable. Tampa Bay signed the 11 year veteran on March 10th to be a back-up to starter Earnest Graham, as well as serve as an effective third down/change of pace type back. Dunn spent his first 5 seasons in the NFL in Tampa Bay and will be familiar with their offensive schemes -- which will be a bonus in 2008. Dunn is worth drafting as a handcuff to Earnest Graham in deeper leagues, but he will have similar fantasy value to a guy like Kevin Faulk -- where he will get occasional carries and catch a couple of passes per game (giving him some value, but just not enough to be worthy of a spot on most fantasy rosters). I would expect Dunn to rush for around 300 yards and score 1 TD, plus about 25-30 catches for 300 yards and 1 TD. Dunn is a nice backup in deeper leagues, but isn't worth selecting until the later rounds of 08 fantasy drafts.
Update 8/17/08: Dunn has yet to see any action so far this pre-season due to lingering injuries. Dunn is still worth a late round pick in all fantasy leagues." |
Good tidbits of info here on Dunn...
He did play Sunday night and was serviceable (3 rushes, 12 yards, 3 rec, 17 yards), but that was late in the game. Again, Bennett stole the show with 8 rushes for 57 yards and 1 rec for 13 yds.
By the way...Ahman Green is likely to be released...if not already taken, Steve Slaton may be worth a gamble.8/19/2008 11:00:12 AM |

Thanks Panthro but did not Slaton get most of his yards in cleanup in the 4th quater also?
I would like to take Slaton, he is avail, but for some reason my intuition is leaning towards Dunn back at home. I think he maybe valuable as clean-up change of pace. Not having to carry the load may keep he rolling.
Good notes though, I will be looking it over...I don't think anyone will be taking Slaton any time soon.

Draft Green at your own risk. Not only is he an injury machine, Houston also has Chris Brown, Steve Slaton, Chris Taylor and Darius Walker in the backfield. There has also been talk that Green could be released should he not heal quickly enough. The likelihood of Green making a big impact on fantasy teams is remote." |

McGahee could potentially get released?
Quote : | "Willis McGahee could miss the rest of the preseason, according to the Baltimore Sun. Furthermore, reporter Mike Preston says McGahee does not have many fans in the Baltimore front office because his work ethic is substandard, and it would not be a shock to see him get cut before the end of the regular season.
With the quality play of rookie Ray Rice, McGahee could be deemed expendable. This news has to alarm fantasy owners who invested a high pick in the former Miami back. It is absolutely imperative to handcuff Rice should you choose to draft McGahee." |

So, we just did our draft order here at work and I got the first pick.
We are keeping 1 player per team from last year and I'm keeping Peyton.
Should I get LT or Adrian Peterson?
Also, with my 2nd pick (~15th overall -- already having a solid RB/QB, should I look top of the line receiver, Moss/TO, or should I get a mediocre RB?)

^^ I agree with ^, but I think you made a mistake by not taking a RB in the first two rds. It looks like you likely had somewhere in between the 7th - 10th pick, and chose to go Moss, then Manning instead of a RB like Gore, MB3, LJ, etc. in combination with your first pick of Moss/Manning. Big mistake IMO.
Looks like you then came back at the end of the 3rd rd and went Jamal, then Winslow?
Uf!
A RB and TE from the Browns on your starting team?! I don't care how potent the Browns are supposed to be, that will be tough.
Moss, Coles and Curry aren't exactly striking fear in me....at all.
I would take these steps....
1) Try trading Winslow for a solid WR or RB, or try to get two for one. A middle ground WR and mid tier RB combo for him. Clear up the extra space on the roster by dropping the Redskins defense. Only an idiot has two roster spots taken with Defenses.
If you are lucky enough to pull that off, look at a value TE like (best case) Heath Miller, or (more likely) a high reward player like Zach Miller (OAK) or Owen Daniels (HOU).
I hope this is at least a 12 man league...and even with that...you may be in big trouble.
Let me know how I can help. Good luck!

I switched my #4 pick with the #7 pick in exchange to switch picks in the 2nd, 4th, and 6th rounds. Good idea?
Also, since I now have the 7th pick, who do you feel is the best pick? I'm anticipating AP, Westbrook, Addai, LT, and Brady to be gone, and my pick will pretty much rely on who the #6 pick is.
I'm looking between Moss/Jackson/Portis, with a lean towards Portis because of Jackson's contract issues and the fact that I'm not entirely sold on Moss being able to produce like he did last year. 8/21/2008 12:35:06 AM |

Quote : | "I would take Ocho Marvin Harrison over Calvin Braylon Edwards in a heartbeat myself
Ocho Marvin has put up 1,000+ yards each of the past 6 years
Calvin Braylon averaged 3 catches per game last season." |
Summary..
If you draft based on last year's or historical stats...you will lose.
Draft based on floor and upside for this season. Calvin's upside is significantly higher than Ocho's.8/21/2008 1:12:16 PM |

regardless of what actually happened last season, going into last season you'd be a fool to pick Braylon over Harrison...or did you personally foresee Derek Anderson playing out of his mind, and Harrison having a huge injury? Go ahead...take a Lions receiver not named Roy Williams instead of one of the best receivers over the last 5 years...Chad Johnson is 30...Marvin is 38...bad analogy
would you also draft AP over LT based on upside? cause i sure as hell wouldnt] 8/21/2008 1:25:05 PM |

if you picked them in the same draft spot, you're correct, but you could have picked up Edwards at least 2 rounds later than Harrison was going.
The ocho/c. johnson situation is a bit different, but imo a disgruntled WR with uncertain health status (offseason surgery + shoulder) is a bust waiting to happen.8/21/2008 1:57:37 PM |

Interesting....all valid points, I think I am going to back away from Chad....the more I look and read into things "he is ahead of schedule" and should be ready to start week 1 is not a big comfort. Bruised Ego and bruised shoulder could be a bad combo for him.

I think you have made the right choice.
Twista...
My point was not that those two examples are completely analogous, but more importantly...you can't draft strictly on historical stats. Despite some differences in that comparison, Chad Johnson is being drafted at least 1 rd ahead of Calvin...
To be exact their ADP (Average Draft Position) in a 10 man league for example is
Ocho - 3.03 Calvin - 4.05 (actually tied with Roy Williams and Carson Palmer)
Braylon and Marvin were at least this distance apart last year, so it's not so far fetched to think that Calvin will outproduce, especially with Chad already showing signs of being injury plagued.
Great debate though...that's really one of the points of this entire thread.
