when i was 3 i was playing outside by myself and decided it would be a good idea to ride my tricycle down the stairs. it ended with a faceplant into the sidewalk. i actually remember trying to open the front door and feeling a rushing sensation on my face and touching it to find my hands covered in blood. then i freaked out. turned out my teeth were smashed back into my gums. once my mom came outside she flipped and went to the sidewalk to look for my teeth. she grabbed a box of popsicles and started feeding them to me on the way to the ER. they bascially said my teeth went back into the gums and we had to wait for them to grow back in again.

around the same age i got my hand slammed in the door at daycare. i remember this one too, i was < 5 years old. my middle finger on my left hand got ripped off and had to be sewen back on. now i have a circular scar that covers my finger tip and goes slightly under the nail. makes my finger look lopsided when i have short nails

i also saw a woman get hit and killed by a car when i was about 8. she rolled up the hood and onto the windshield and back onto the ground where she died. to this day i hesitate when crossing busy streets and hardly ever cross unless the crosswalk says so and if other people are crossing too i let them go first.

besides the last one, i haven't witnessed many injuries but they seem to happen to me!

I ran over my cat on Sunday. I was backing my car up, felt a bump, then saw a cat on the ground with its legs sprinting through the air. I sat beside him while his spasms got weaker and slower until he died less than a minute later.

i had a friend break her arm when we were playing at our moutain cottage when i was about 10.
we had to walk about 3/4 of a mile back to my house with her bone sticking out of her arm

and at the dragstip in johnson county i saw a girl racing her motorcycle faceplant onto the strip and slide about 30 or so feet wearing shorts and a tanktop

i think those two may be the worst.
not too bad i guess.

My friend Mike hopped on my cousin's shitty bike and took off down the street, the chain locked up or something and he flips over the handle bars. Breaks his nose and chips two teeth.

Sucked.

When I was a co-op in a paper mill, caustic solution at like 300 - 400 degree F seeped into his waders and completely burnt his foot. He was peeling his skin off and stuff.

Reminds me of when I pulled out a toothpick that had gone completely through a friend's pinky toe. Not as grand as an arrow shard, but still was pretty wild to see.

Ok three of the worst for me:

1) In March 2007 coming off USS Nassau in Norfolk after being at sea, left to head home on I-64E. Traffic was moving about 65-70 in the 55mph zone. I was in the left lane of three. Guy driving a harley was in front of me (not driving wrecklessly). Lady in the lane one over (with no blinker) merges into the left lane, and into the biker. The wreck cause the fuel tank to split open and catch the bike on fire. The rider was pretty torn up, but survived somehow. The lady also had to be taken to the hospital for shock.

2) Driving last may on I-95N to DC in the HOV. This was about 6:40 in the morning. Coming up to Dale City area and in the I-95S direction an accident happended right in front of us (slow going north) involving several cars, a van, and a semi truck. To say the fireball was small is an understatment. How nobody died is beyond me. Some serious burns though.

3) Last but not least was June 2007 on Highway 17 in Spotsyvlania VA. 2 People in a ford Probe thought they were slick and could cut around traffic. They were coming towards us (maybe 1/6th mile away). Well as we all approached the intersection they cut a minivan off, and got T-boned HARD (55mph+). The folks in the van were shooken up but fine, but not the case with the Probe. They got smacked hard, and then ended up into the guardrail. They both were not wearing their seatbelts either. The driver got plastered up against the window and remains of the front windshield. The rear passenger got wedged in between the seats. Rescue had to utilize the jaws of life to get them out. Severe trauma injuries resulted in a Lifeflight helicopter for both. I ended up giving a report to the trooper, doing 2 more discussions with police on phone, and deposition for the courts.

A car made a left turn in front of a motorcycle. The sun was setting and the guy in the car had such a glare from the sun he never say the motorcycle until he hit him. The rider went partly under the front left of the car. He broke his left leg and he left foot was wadded up and looked like a wadded up sock. I am pretty sure he lost his foot.

it was maybe a month or two ago, i was coming down 40 headed east back towards raleigh and then all of a sudden i heard this loud screech and looked to my left and say this huge blue conversion van's back end lift up 90 degrees and then flip over. the van proceeded to roll multiple times as it went down the embankment. i immediately called 911.

um, ive broken a guys collarbone, broken a guys leg, and broken my own hand in the process of spraining another guys ankle

the breaking another guys leg was pretty crazy and even though it happened back in high school i still remember it like it was yesterday. i was pretty crazy in the goal sometimes in soccer

(the collarbone incident happened when i played in england over the summer my jr/sr year of high school, i broke some welsh guy's collarbone while going up to get the ball 50/50 and he ended up spinning in the air and landed weird)

i do not feel sorry for any person i have injured, cause i would assume they wouldnt feel sorry for me either

[Edited on November 4, 2008 at 1:40 AM. Reason : i guess ive never seen anything crazy like head decapitation or loss of arm or wrecks or something]

I've been pretty fortunate.

Last summer (2007) during softball season. We were playing in a championship game, and the ball was thrown home and hit the home plate umpire dead square in the nose.

Blood everywhere, and when he finally came to, he got up with a huge chunk of bone hanging out his nose! DISGUSTING!!!

Not nearly as bad as half the things mentioned in here, but this is the worst I've seen thus far.

Also playing ball, I've seen girls get hit right in the head...straight shot. I've been hit dead on in the leg...still have the divit (sp?) to prove.

I haven't seen too many disgusting decapitating ones. most of them have happened to me or my sises.
I was mauled by a dog and had most of my left knee cap torn off.

I broke my right arm at 6 when jumping off a slide-it snaped nicely

my sister lost her teeth when she was chasing me around the house, she missed me, lunged and got a faceful, of oak dresser. she lost all her front teeth.

my other sister, was sledding down a hill missed the turn, and endded up hitting a car. she put up her arm to stop and destroyed the bone. my dad a doctor didn't beleive she broke her arm, b/c she wasn't crying, and when she knocked on the door with her other hand, she broke the glass and ended up with blood everywhere. she went to the hospital, and was in a cast/and such for 18 months. oh and she never cried. -we aren't allowed to cry -suck it up!!!

Damn I've lived a sheltered life compared to most of you.

Worst I've seen was a few years back biking around Cades Cove Loop out in the mountains, and on one of the hills they tell you to walk down this little girl probably about 8 come flying past us shrieking out of control down the hill, bike goes off the road at a turn, she flies over the handlebars and faceplants into a fence post.

She had a nasty gash and concussion, had to call the ambulance, but not life threatening.

It still haunts me though just cause of her screaming followed by the thud.

Couple months ago saw a motorcycle and a car cross paths at an intersection.

Guy on motorcycle flew in the air for about 20 ft before he landed and skidded for a few feet. I'd say car was going about 40, motorcycle might have been going a little more. The bike was completely engulfed in flames and the guy that was on the bike was making the painful sounds I've ever heard come out of someone's mouth.

had a bent nail hook my index finger from middle knuckle to tip

saw a guy in HS put his arm through a plate glass window in a end of year show of exuberance, most of his forearm was dangling from his elbow after that... (he ended up being fine)

got nailed in the face with a baseball, have a divot in my nose still

saw my brother fall 8 feet and land on his wrist, broke it pretty bad

I was playing football in HS and the running back slipped when he turned around the end. He caught himself with his left arm but he had it twisted oddly. When he stood up, both bones were sticking out of his arm on opposite sides.

Another football story: We were playing our rivals, Chatham Central when one of our corner backs hit their running back in the shoulder and started him spinning. The linebacker came in to assist on the tackle and hit the RB on the other shoulder. The dude head turned backwards from the torque of the impact. It took thirty minutes to get him on the stretcher and off the field.

Senior year, playing baseball at North Moore, our relief pitcher with a wicked split finger came in the game and on his first pitch hit a guy in the face. It ended up knocking him unconscious, breaking his nose, cheekbone, and jaw. The bone crunching thud that the ball made was the most sickening sound I have ever heard.

In middle school, I t-boned my brother on a dirt bike. He ended up breaking his collarbone and I went flying over the handle bars.

Three months later, the same attending was on his second rotation at the local ER, when my brother fell out of a tree and compound fractured his arm. I'm convinced that doctor thinks my brother was abused.

Kelley's Island, Ohio
A bunch of college kids drinking/hanging out on the docks at a restaurant. Drunk kid driving a cigarette boat slammed into the dock, killing a guy and his gf on impact, wounding a couple others. I was with my family on my uncle's boat, diagonally from the dead pair's boat. Some blood sprayed. Stuff floating in the water.

I wrote about a crazy accident that I witnessed, a while back. The link points to pictures.

Quote :
"
So this morning, I'm driving on 33 on the way to Greenville for class. The car ahead is about 50 yards away. He's driving an 80's Chevy Cavalier Wagon. In front of him is a truck. The truck decides to make a turn off of the main road, and the guy in the Cav zooms around him.

As soon as he gets into the oncoming lane, he realizes there's a large dump truck coming right at him. They make an attempt to swerve, but to no avail. They hit head on, going about 55mph on impact. The Cav slams into the truck, jumps about 6 feet into the air, and then smashes back down onto the pavement with a sickening crash that I could hear over my SOAD CD.

So I pull over, a little out of my mind and immediately hit 911. I get out of the car and walk over to the Cavalier, and he's passed out. I give the 911 operator the location and details of the wreck. When she finally asks me if he's conscious, I realize he's just now coming to. He leans his head back and I can see a large chunk of his lip is completely gone, the steering wheel is crushing his chest, and his legs are pinned under the dash. He groaned and seemed to have no idea where he was at. At that point I'm carrying two conversations. I'm looking at this guys bloody fucking face, and I'm listening to the 911 operator tell me to keep him calm..

That's when I snap.

I started to yell at the operator, because she had suddenly become intentionally calm, for lack of a better term. She just kept repeating the same thing, "Keep him calm, EMTs are on the way. Stay on the line." I told her something to the effect of:

"THIS GUY IS PINNED IN THE GODDAMN CAR, HIS FACE IS GUSHING BLOOD, AND IM PRETTY SURE IM STANDING IN A PUDDLE OF GAS. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO KEEP HIM CALM?"

I ended up hanging up the phone, and trying to talk to the guy. It was no help though, because by that point all the pain from the broken bones started to set in. His eyes were as big as plates as he was wailing, screaming, and struggling to get himself out of the car; while I stood there, awestruck. I told him not to move, and began to chainsmoke like I've never done before while I tried to ask him calming questions like "What's your name? and Where are you right now?" I felt like a therapist; which is pretty ironic.

After the initial craze, the EMTs finally got there and used the Jaws of Life to get him out of the car. I overheard them saying he had broken both legs, most of his ribs, his wrist, and his jaw. AND THAT'S BEFORE THEY DID AN XRAY.

I managed to take a few pictures, once everyone else got there and I had a minute to gather myself. I uploaded a few of them here:

http://personal.ecu.edu/atb0407/crash.html

When you view the pictures, notice the 2'x3' piece of marble that is in the car's passenger seat.

It came out of the dumptruck during impact and flew through his windshield.

Yeah.

No seat belt, no air bags. All this guy had was luck. Good for him, too, that he brought a shitload of it this morning on his way to work.

I haven't seen too many injuries, but I managed to get a guy injured last night playing football. A quick guy was running up the backfield and making a bunch of cuts and jukes. I was watching him and went for him when he made a move to get through the line...at the same time as my teammate on the runner's other side. We hit each other head to head. I got some teeth marks on the top of my forehead, he put a hole through his lip with his teeth and was bleeding a fuckton.

DAMMIT SON YOU ALWAYS PULL OUT THIS EXCUSE BUT THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS THE FOLLOWING:

1. THEY WERE NOT THERE FOR YOU.
2. TO GET IN YOUR CAR REQUIRES YOU TO STAY IN ONE PLACE FOR A SIGNIFICANT PERIOD OF TIME, MAKING YOU A STATIONARY (EASY) TARGET. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE INTELLIGENT TO JUST RUN IF YOU WERE IN DANGER SON.
3. YOU STILL DROVE DRUNK AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE ELSE COMMITTED A CRIME DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU AREN'T COMMITTING ONE TOO.

Saw up at Wintergreen snowboarding one weekend. Had just got to the bottom of the hill and saw this guy on skis standing with his back to one of the steeper runs. Kid came flying down it, lost control, and went skis first into the back of the guys knees...
