i don't see the big deal with sweat...it's a gym...man the fuck up

i try not to judge other peoples workouts but it's so easy to tell the people that know what they're doing from the people that are there to try and honor their resolution for a week...such as the guy that will go from bench press to preacher curls to military press...cmon man...pick a muscle group

it's also hilarious watching people do bicep curls and front deltoid raises where they swing their whole body to lift the weight up

i'll 2nd the thongs on chicks, yes please

and for those of you who are too insecure to piss in the urinals at carmichael(i don't think guys care about your dick size)....lift up the fucking seat...I like to take my dumps at the gym...saves on my water and TP bill

Not everyone does one muscle group a day. I'm personally done with those days.

no, that's not the solution. nobody should have to alter their workouts so you can use the equipment more easily--but he should let you work in, and probably would if you'd just ask.

inclines are no problem--I catch the weights on my thighs when i'm done. flat bench dumbell presses are the problem--i don't SLAM them, on a heavy set with a problem-prone shoulder, I can't sit them down but so easy. I have to put them down kinda hard. I do try to make sure they're flat so it doesn't damage the dumbells.

As far as locations... I live in CA... but need to find a gym when I move back to NC so I wouldn't mind seeing some suggestions"

Concur on the fatbodies. They annoy me, too, normally, but if they're working out, good on 'em.

when are you coming back to raleigh?

sorry, but no. there are people who are quite excessive about it, but if you're lifting hard enough, you will occasionally let loose at least a moderate grunt. You can't help it.

dude

there are other good ways to work out besides bodypart splits. i mean, i do bodypart splits, too, but it's not the only way to fly.

THAT is a huge pet peeve of mine. What the fuck, dude? It's a urinal. You're a man, or at least a male. Don't be such a pussy that you need to have a stall to piss in.

People who don't understand what hard work and dedication are bitching about people who do.

Not racking weights

Cell phones

using the rack for silly things---curls, shrugs

Asking me to spot, but really want me to lift for them....spotting period

swiss balls

people leg pressing w/ one plate on each side (do a bodyweight squat)

people walking way too close /trying to set up right against me, while i'm doing deads, oly's, bent over rows, etc

bodypart splits

i'm in the gym, working out

that's better than 95% of everyone else, so leave me the fuck alone

i just don't get this -- why on earth do people even bring their phones out into the gym? and then you really have to talk on it in between sets? can't just have that conversation when you leave? baffling...

Yeah Im actually cool with shrugs in the squat rack as long as theres more than the available dbs. For example, the Planet Fitness on Western only goes up to 80lbs dbs. So I usually use the smith machine for shrugs (or squat rack) since I need more weight. Its really the only way I can do them without doing a ton of reps

^^ I'm a fan of the smith machine for inverted rows, but that is really it. I feel like the motion isn't natural and it puts more stress on my joints than most exercises I could just do with free weights.

^ When I lived in Spring Lake you'd see women with variations of that in Wal-Mart all the time.

kinda like a squat rack looking thing that has hooks that cling to pegs...can only go up and down so if you do bench you dont really have to worry about having a spotter as much

zombie, not really (some of those were in jest). I do get annoyed by the squat rack curlers/shruggers (hack squat the damn bar for shrugs). The gym I use most often only has one rack, and hogging it for those is silly. Other than that, on your quote, I could really care less. I don't really pay much attention to people in general at the gym.

Swiss balls are good for chuckles, though.

People bench on the smith machine because 135 on a smith machine is like 115 maybe on a normal barbell. The 'assisted, guided motion' makes it a little easier.

I hate using the smith machine but Ill use it for shrugs if the gym is crowded so that I dont take up the squat rack for those who squat, deadlift, or do bent over rows

but whats the point. the benefit of the flat or incline bench is that it gets the stabilizer muscles. the smith machine doesn't do that. you'd do better just using a machine weight.

everytime when i want to do squats i always see an idiot doing bench on the smith machine. its like "WTF, B?"

there are a few times when the smith machine is good for something, but it isn't benching or squatting (unless you're doing it in a pinch because you can't find anyone to spot you).

Man, folks on this forum have lots of expert opinions about what a machine is and isn't for...

Theres nothing wrong with using the smith machine for squats, bench press, shrugs, overhead press, or anything else for that matter. Maybe if you guys spent more time working out than critiquing other people's use of the equipment you'd be better off. Just saying...

Was gonna say, if I don't have a spotter around and don't feel like using dumbbells that day, whats wrong with using the smith machine for regular and decline bench? Especially when there's plenty of 'em.

dude, don't be a b!tch. this thread is just venting. its common knowledge that ppl don't really talk when there in the gym anyways.

i generally workout, sauna and shower w/out ever really having a conversation with anybody in there.

so stop being a dickbag, G.

Where's the location gonnna be, and might I ask the instructors?

Personally, I get annoyed at people who think they're better than someone else due to form or weight or something like that. I do a lot of exercises donkin WEIRD because I'm working things specific to judo. Like, when I'm doing lat pulldowns, I'll usually also be fitting in for my harai goshi with my feet. Looks unlike what anyone else is doing, but I have my reasons, damn it. And I usually work low weight high rep to help my endurance, I CANNOT bulk up. If I build up muscle again, I'm gonna get shot into the fatass weight class because there is NO ONE in NC women's judo to fight between 140 and 200 pounds. If I land in at 155, damn it, I'm stuck with the fatasses.

^^ As long as they're not making out on the equipment who cares? Sometimes I go to the gym with my boyfriend because he can show me weightlifting stuff that I wouldn't know how to do correctly myself.
