Actually Posey was an excellent player in Memphis.

Great two way game. He was crucial in the title run. The Hornets need some veteran leadership on a relatively young team. He provides shooting, perimeter defense, and he can frustrate the hell out of Kobe. That's exactly what NO needs. You can't play Morris Peterson 30 minutes per game deep in the playoffs.

I do agree he will be cooked near the end of that contract. He's already lost a lot of athleticism. But NO is playing for the here and now and I don't have a problem with that.

Pretty good analysis by Hollinger. I hesistate to ever be too far on the other side of the fence than Hollinger because I think he gives pretty good reasoning. However, I did learn his per stat is pretty flawed towards people who shoot more thanks to the more accurate WoW analysis. That tends to underrate a player like Posey who doesn't shoot often.

I definitely agree he will be all but washed up ~3 seasons from now and that the contract length is a little long but there will be ways for the Hornets to shed payroll at a later date. I think they are trying to put together a squad that can win a title in the next two years and I think Posey is a piece that makes them a contender.

Albeit a longshot, but still you gotta go for it nonetheless.

Raja showed up at the flamingo today all low key. I played against him 5 on 5 and he was missing layups and all his 3s but probably giving his 5%. He had some nice globetrots and and1 moves though.

Darius Miles had one monster season before blowing out his knee again.

Its just too much for 18 year old kids to try to adjust to the NBA game. Kids like Shawn Livingston and Jonathan Bender who were legit NBA players never let their bodies develop before trying to bang against men. Eventually they break down.

Look even at guys like Kevin Durant. He had one of the best freshmen seasons of all time and he goes to the pros and has a nightmare season.

Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant are the exceptions to the rule. And even those guys at the age of 30 look like 40 year old men the way they play. Their unparalleled skill set is the only thing that keeps them in the league at this point.

interesting discussion...you say Kobe and Garnett are the exception not the rule, but look at all the players drafted out of high school in the last 10 years or so...aside from stars like Kobe and Garnett who are able to succeed, you also have people like Lebron, Tracy McGrady, Dwight Howard, Amare Stoudamire, who in addition to Kobe and Garnett, are also some of the best players in the league...and I think I read somewhere that in the last 10 or 15 years, 6.5% of draft picks have been straight out of high school...we're quick to say the Darius Miles and Kwame Browns are the norm, and the Kobes and Lebrons are the exceptions, but are they really?

People forget how the Pacers were perenial contenders before the brawl happened... They had the best record in the NBA and Artest was the Defensive POY in 2003-04. I dunno what the trade means for Battier, but it certainly gives the Rockets a 'big 3' of sorts.

It is a great move for the Rockets, they had to do something. The current group was going nowhere. So if he is a cancer then they weren't winning anything without him, if he does what he is capable of, and he does have a good relationship with their coach already(huge plus when dealing with a guy like that) then he could be a missing piece to a pretty talented group.

the Spurs also have the best winning percentage over the last 10 years of any team in any of the 4 major sports leagues...they're a well run franchise...Tony Parker, one of the most underrated players in the league, is 26 years old...and Greg Popovich is one of the most underrated coaches in the NBA...I'd definitely have to see a bigger dropoff than losing in the Western Finals before I say they're anywhere near a 2nd tier team

But its their role players that are getting ancient...Horry, Barry, Thomas, etc.....those guys are replaceable

Their core still has a few yeas left of their prime...Duncan is the oldest of the 3 but big men who keep themself in shape don't fall off that sharply

I think they'll still be a major factor for the next two or three years

Spurs have been great for a long time, don't get me wrong. But all good things come to an end. Duncan is still strong but exiting his prime, and gino is not the same player he was a few years ago. Those role players "Horry, Barry, Thomas" are replaceable? Those guys have rings and experience, not going to be easy to replace and they haven't replaced them yet.

They barely got into the finals as it was this year, but I'm not putting them up in the group with the Lakers/Hornets who are younger and getting better, while the spurs are older and on their downside of the dynasty. NBA experts are not putting this team in the top tier in the west.
