I'm fearful. Women make up more than half of all SUV drivers.
haha just found this: http://womeninsuvs.blogspot.com/
Quote : | "I also noticed that age seemed to be a factor. The typical terrible SUV driving woman is white, upper-middle class, has children, and is between the ages of 32-50. Their preferred vehicles are Large SUVs such as Escalades, Expeditions, Yukons, Range Rovers, etc." |
haha. Sounds like Myers park.

i'm not consistently a bitch and there are several people on here that know me and can vouch for that. but yeah if you piss me off, i'm pretty ruthless. i'm not going to sit here and say i'm all sugar and sunshine all the time bc that would be a lie.
^^ and see, i don't even fit that demographic, i'm much younger

haha, sd2nc i'm pretty sure i worked on your truck a couple of times at thompson. did you have a satellite thing on top too? if so, that was hands down one of if not the first true ballin escalade in this area. definitely the first ext done right. hats off to you sir, that's probably one of five vehicles that really stands out in my memory from my years there. 7/3/2008 2:54:23 PM |

Really? Its common knowledge that the high gasoline prices, the fuel crisis of the 70s (and another one of the early 80s) was caused by an oil embargo by OPEC. They teach this in high school history and its mentioned on an almost daily basis in articles about high gasoline prices.7/3/2008 3:02:11 PM |

^ I am aware of that. I was making the point that OPEC may or may not be blamed for the rise of gas prices in this day and age instead of blaming people who drive SUVs. It's not the soap box so I was more or less being facetious.
If OPEC is the reason than we're not going to put in the history books that we used to think that people over-driving SUVs was the reason.

hey im not hating, i just want some confirmation that SUV drivers know what they're doing and that they're doing it despite that and not because of ignorance 7/3/2008 8:37:04 PM |

I drive my suv because I want to. I am concerned about "da erf" (lol) and everything, and pretty much I do what I can when I can to help out (though i'm not a hippie), however, considering that I paid the monthly payments for the full term, and its the first vehicle I've had that's lasted the full term, and it looks nice, paid for, and I can haul stuff in it, I'm gonna drive it and no I won't feel guilty about driving it.
I've got another car that I use for long trips and the daily commute to work, and its more fuel efficient (like 250% more) than the SUV, but when I go hunting, drivin the dog someplace, or when I just wanna ride a lil higher than 3 inches off the ground, during a week when people have walked in front of the car too much to the point I'm slammin on brakes b/c of their stupid ass, I'll drive the SUV.
I don't drive my SUV out of ignorance, I do it because I paid for the thing, and its still a great vehicle, plus I just can't wait for the winter ice to come this year and winch people out of ditches on 440, (and maybe just tag someone who is driving stupid with the new brushguard too lol). 7/3/2008 8:52:11 PM |

the only reason I drive an suv is because I got an AMAZING deal on it when I bought it a few years ago (nearly brand new)... when gas prices started going up like crazy I wanted to trade it in, but it was in an accident (not me, previous owner) and had a crappy trade-in value
so I can stick with my new-ish suv and pay for gas, or get an old car and pay for repairs 7/3/2008 10:03:59 PM |

Yes, because all women are obviously bad drivers. My mom, for example--5'1", weighs about 100 lbs. on a good day, drives a Crown Vic. Not an SUV, but about the biggest car you can get. Worst driver? Let's see--she's been in 2 accidents (1 not her fault) and had 1 traffic ticket in 39 years driving. Last accident 1990, last ticket ~1970.
Me personally, I get to have all the crappy gas mileage of an SUV (about 13 city/22 highway) with none of the benefits. 3.55 gears + 4300 lbs. of car do not good gas mileage make.7/4/2008 12:40:34 AM |

wat?
i realize this is chit chat, but what the hell...
it's fine with me if people want to hate on suv's/truck/other gas guzzlers for whatever reason. i point and laugh (or sometimes become enraged and scream) at the stereotypical ones frequently myself. however, lets at least look beyond fuel mileage only before getting up in arms to scrap them all. fuel mileage/consumption is hardly what really matters in terms of overall pollution and general resource usage. there's a much bigger picture, and most people are ignorant to it.
a lot of so called "green" vehicles that get impressive mileage actually have an overall hefty impact on the environment. in certain cases, it can be MORE than the bigger vehicles that get berated if you look at the total costs and impact to operate the vehicle over its speculated lifespan. for example, where do you think materials for hybrid batteries come from? nickel mines. some of the nastiest, most polluting places on earth. the list goes on from there, not only for hybrids but for a lot of your "normal" gas sippers as well. that's definitely not to say all suv's/trucks outside of fuel consumption are angels. hardly the case. many of them are horrible in all categories. on the other hand, there are high mpg vehicles that score well all around. my point is, if you're goal is to accomplish more than saving money on fuel you need to do more research than looking at the big numbers on the window sticker.
finally, don't forget driving habits and per passenger numbers. if you're driving the dog piss out of a 4 cylinder everywhere you go, while someone else puts around in their v8 suv, you might be getting surprisingly similar efficiency. if susie soccer mom puts her suv to use every day hauling 2.5 kids around while joe blow rides around solo in his compact all the time, who's doing what more or less?
i could go on with all the ways so called energy hogs can excel, but it gets to be splitting hairs and the above are the significant considerations. bottom line, the people out there really making a difference for fuel consumption AND the environment are the ones that go un noticed. they're in their beat up 1986 civic ticking off 300k miles at 40-50mpg as you whiz by. the ones scavenging used grease every week from behind your favorite restaurant, the ones riding the bus, walking, and a whole horde of other things. NOT the retard parading around in his new prius looking down (or up?) his nose at everyone else on the road. if you want to direct your anger and efforts somewhere, aim it at the auto manufacturers, oil companies, and the government.

That doesn't mean she is a good driver. There are numerous times on the road i've seen( i'm sure alot of people also have seen) where some women drive screws up the traffic pattern and causes many people to slam on the brakes. Such as driving slow in the left lane. Your mom may have only gotten 2 tickets but that doesn't mean she didn't cause accidents.7/4/2008 12:57:45 AM |

Okay, so I improperly asserted a pattern of behavior by substituting the results for the behavior. However, I still stand by my statement. I'm not going to sit here and argue the point, because it's dumb. Just trying to point out that the blanket statements about small women drivers in large cars, or women drivers in general, may have a grain of truth to them but definitely do not apply in all cases. 7/4/2008 12:49:31 PM |

I'm going to throw the topic directly into the soapbox zone.
I don't mind people driving SUVs, but some of these same people complain that the reason we are in an oil crisis in the first place is because the liberals would not allow drilling in Alaska.
Since 1975 people have said that we need to increase overall fuel efficiency to reduce our dependence on oil. But, for the last 20 years the avereage national gas milage has been going down instead of up (by about 4mi/gal), due to America's love of status padding SUVs.
Can't people do something other than sit higher in their cars to show their value/worth.
