I dunno, I'd live with someone before I marry them.
I don't think marriage should change anything or be a fix-all.
But then I'm the type of person who would want to try to fix things regardless and not just tuck tail and run like a bitch.
I also don't want a joint bank account.
hmm. maybe i'm just odd :/

NO joint finances unless we have been together for 20 years.

someone might have said this on page 2 but i got kinda bored with the whole debate BUT isn't there some statistic that says people who live together before marriage are more likely to get divorced? i thought i read that somewhere OR maybe someone told me and it was a lie. i just thought it sounded like the opposite of the way things should be. but i don't know. because i live alone and i am not married

yep there is

but in my opinion there's more to the stat than most people think about. compare the people who usually live together versus those who don't.. the ones that don't are usually better off financially and dont have a need to live together to save money and/or are pretty religious--obviously neither of those hurt when talking about a marriage lasting.

I don't use maps, but that's only because I shelled out the money for a nav system in my car.

Oh, and that whole list... 100% dead on accurate.

yea its a tough call, really. like how do you know when/if to move in or if its going to doom the relationship, etc.

i think what ^^^^ said is right. demographics probably play a huge role. like, i think i'm probably too immature right now to live with someone else. like i gotta figure my own life out first before i go getting all crazy and having boys babies and dogs in my personal space

[Edited on July 14, 2008 at 5:34 PM. Reason : ^]

[Edited on July 14, 2008 at 5:35 PM. Reason : so i mean like age, etc probably play a role in the statistic]

i mean a dog is kind of the step below a guy moving in with you its a similar commitment. 10-15 years and you have to actually do stuff with it. i have a cat. so i have some company but she mostly just takes care of herself

but i was mostly referring to the type of coupley investments people make when they move in together. like getting a dog.

i like it that most of the times the ones on TWW giving the marriage advice are the ones not married

what else are you an expert on that you haven't done?

hopefully you weren't referring to my post. because i didn't give anyone advice. just commented on some statistic i'd heard about. and then i commented about myself.

saying she isn't an expert because she hasn't done it is borderline retarded.. her knowing enough about it to know it's better she DOESN'T do it at this point is a lot better than most a lot of ppl

but i'm sure the 50% of marriages that end in divorce know soo much more

^^ i wasn't referring to your post in particular

^ i'm not saying they are experts either - but they do know a lot more than people that "have an idea of what marriage is like because they've know people that are married"

people that are divorced probably have worse advice based on statistics - before they got married the first time they had a ~50% chance (depending on a lot of factors - but for most college grads the % is higher) - after you've been married statistics say that your 2nd marriage is more likely to fail than the first which could mean that they probably have worse advice

"Enjoys Cat Calls: First of all, most dudes don’t call out to girls on the street; we check out your ass and overflowing push-up bra from a respectable distance. But women don’t just (secretly, deep down) enjoy getting cat calls thrown their way, they expect it. Sure, some dude might go over the line now and then, and that never feels nice. But if nobody stares and nobody says a single lewd comment, she feels less sexy, like there’s something wrong with her that day, or at least with what she’s wearing. Guys, don’t take this as an invitation to hit on every stranger you see walking down the street. But ladies, stop telling us you don’t like it."

this is not completely true.

maybe girls with horrible, horrible self-esteem enjoy being whistled at by stout mexicans or creepy men old enough to be their grandfather, but i don't.

Then why wear reveling clothing (push bras, heels, miniskirts) out in public if you don't want the attention?

maybe they like knowing they look good? i'm sure some women want attention but there's good attention and bad attention. like...a cat call might not be the greatest form of attention but maybe they're looking for something else. like a guy to approach them and start up a convo or whatever. i dunno??

this comment sketches me because its almost ALMOST like saying that girls who wear sketchy clothing deserve like what they get. whether its cat calls, having men make passes at them or touch them while their out, etc, etc, etc,

if you dress like a whore you get treated like a whore. You can dress respectable and still look good is all i'm saying. Refer to Dave chappelle's skit about him being in a cop uniform if you need any more info.

told the broads at work i'm like "look...i'm sorry...i just feel all attractive women are lying to me"

they were like "omg why!?!?" and i'm like "cause the only reason most attractive women get anywhere is cause they are hot...some nerdy guy could do 15% more work than them but they are attractive...i feel like they are so use to getting their way since they are attractive they lie to get their way"

after that they kinda changed the subject

good statement. so all high heels revealing bras and mini skirts are whorish? and if people choose to wear a certain outfit it shouldn't automatically permit other people to degrade them. hope you don't ever assault someone because these arguments about clothing don't really fly anymore

If I don't want to hang out with a bunch of cackling, idiotic biddies spewing out pointless drivel, why would I want the same in a guy? Just leave it at "sexually" and then go from there

But in that skit he makes it clear that women do not deserve to be treated like whores just for dressing in a certain way, he just wants women to know that it's confusing if they're wearing "a whore's uniform"

So if i dress like a cop and someone comes up to me screaming about someone getting murdered they shouldn't get pissed at me when i tell them i'm not a cop? And yes high heels revealing bras and mini skirts do tend to be whorish it depends on how much you add on to it. Like if you wear all 3 together.

And no they don't deserve to get raped but come on dress with some respect for yourself.

"Uses Sex To Manipulate Men: If she’s looking extra hot and/or acting particularly friendly, beware: she is probably going to ask you to do something you don’t want to do. (This is a perfectly acceptable trade-off in a woman’s mind.) She knows you like sex, and she’s got the tools to use that desire against you–or at least to get what she wants. But sex is what we want, so don’t get us wrong on this one: We want you to use sex to manipulate us. It’s the best form of manipulation possible. But don’t think we don’t know what you’re up to.

Understood. While it was a pretty big generalization, what I meant to say was that I've found in my own experiences and observing friends that girls seem to get pleasure out of making you do shit they know you don't want to do.. possibly to test if you think they're worth it or not? I know its a give and take, etc. but I'm not usually willing to put up with it. Selfish I know

LivinProof78- maybe im just being dense but what was I supposed to draw from that?
