"the speed at which your favorite radio hits were played"

i enjoyed the show as I posted earlier but I just thought those songs were a bit underwhelming. it absolutely has nothing to do with "my favorite radio hits" like I'm someone who just just wanted to hear the singles when I could match just about anyone's SP collection on here. (sorry just didnt like the tone of that one ) they are still great songs and its disappointing to see lackluster versions live.

mayonaise was still the highlight of the show for me hands down.

Fool enough to almost be it
And cool enough to not quite see it
And old enough to always feel this
Always old, I'll always feel this

No more promise no more sorrow
No longer will I follow
Can anybody hear me
I just want to beeeeeeeeeeee me [ best moment of the show for me, only time i got goosebumps ]
When I can, I will
Try to understand
That when I can, I will

it cant be that great of a show if a highlight is corgan playing without a shirt.

umm, everything that happened at the show was how the entire tour has been...same set every night, same songs, played the same way, with the same kazoos, everything...

so i wasn't expecting anything different than i read or saw on netphoria and spfc.org

i contemplated not going because the set was kinda disappointing compared to orange peel shows

^nothing will ever compare to the orange peel shows though, thats the way you have to look at it. Those were a one time deal, they arent ever again going to do residencies like that, playing that varied of sets and for as long as they did. But even what they played tonight was longer and better than most bands I have seen recently.

I wouldn't rule this out in the future, as bands are doing this on a regular basis now.

Liz Phair just did a run of shows where she played Exile in Guyville in sequence, and there were the SY shows with all of Daydream Nation, etc.

The Orange Peel show I went to paled in comparison to the Cradle show I went to...I actually think I had more fun in Greensboro in 2000 than I did at the OP.

siva, eye, mayo, speed kills, once upon a time, glass' theme, we only come out at night

great show. i can understand how people that aren't hardcore fans could be turned off, but if you were that suprised by a closer like set the controls, then you just don't know enough about the band. they've been dicking around on stage like that for years. its not new, and its not a screw you to the fans. its the smashing pumpkins.

the last time i saw a band make that much earsplitting noise the manager of the hall tripped the breakers and told them to get the fuck out.

billy has said that the planned gish tour is on the shelf as of now because of ongoing litigation between d'arcy/james and virgin/emi.

he should just move on and do the SD tour then - it's not like d'arcy and james contributed to that album anyways

"I waited outside to talk to Billy with the rest of the stalkers after the show and he said this was easily the best crowd of the tour so far."

so did that whole water bottle antic in the middle of the show (not to mention you could hear crickets between songs), not infer that he knew the crowd was NOT into what was going on. It was very obvious to me that he noticed that the crowd was not feeling the show, for whatever reason. That venue was pretty small for a band of that magnitude, and people were sitting down everywhere! There was only a few times that i even saw people bobbing their heads in unison. I am amazed that they came up so lame, and with that SHIT setlist. I guess they still get the money in the end, regardless of how the crowd feels. If you are a hardcore fan, i can see you defending the show...but i am a big fan and know a lot of their library, and I was 90% disappointed (Mayo/Siva were tight and I hadnt seen them played live before). That show IMO was very lackluster and it didnt appear to bother BC at all as he was antagonizing the crowd with comments and antics in between songs. He knew what was going on, which is why i cannot believe (not calling you a liar, maybe he is just in denial) that he would consider THAT show one of the best in terms of crowd response. I didnt even clap for the encore. I laughed at the kazoos though, and that was something I've never seen done and I actually got a kick out of it. Unlike the entire show that preceded it. I felt they charged the amount that the band name deserves, but then showed up and ....well did something that could be called noise. Chamberlain was impressive and I will definitely be dreaming about that bass player. She would get serious business.

They definitely played the "popular" songs fast as hell, with little emotion. I have liked all of their singles..sue me.
More than 3 times I found myself wishing they would end the ridiculously drawn out song they were playing and trying to make special...again, "noise". They could have played 4 more songs that COULD have been crowd friendly in the time they were playing all that filler.

I am a big fan of the band, but what a shit show that was. I will not forget that experience for a long time.

If you enjoyed the show, then kudos to you because I am envious of whatever concert you saw last night.

Also, I can see doing the noise/jam thing with the original lineup because they get bored of the same arrangements and the same people playing after fifteen years, but the new people are hired guns who haven't played the songs eight hundred times.

DaphneGrey hated it.

if she hates anything to do with Billy Corgan, and/or Smashing Pumpkins, it has to be absolute shit.

trust me.

I forgot to ask one of the previous posters as well, how was anything in the encore poking fun at the fans?

maybe its because a traditional encore is to totally rock out with the jams. instead, they played kazoos.

The Kazoo shit should have been the second encore. Just a way to come back out for those still left and have a little fun. The first encore should have been 2-3 songs where they rocked the fuck out.

In total, they played 21 songs. They could have easily played 7-8 of their singles, 5-6 that most fans would know, and then a few more for the hardcore. There was no reason to rush thru their popular songs, and so many long, drawn-out guitar jams just dragged it out unnecessarily.

I didn't expect this show to be anything like Asheville/San Francisco/DC, but we all deserved a little better than what we got.
