Well when I called the receptionist was a bitch. And I have only had one other bitch dr's receptionist. Would not let me make an appt, kept on trying to send me to ID.

ID doesn't fucking deal with neuro symptoms. I had already been to a couple but the bitch would not understand. I am now very glad, did not want to go to Duke anyway with all the shit they do wrong on a regular basis. Honestly, I have seen their incompetence with my own eyes and am not gonna let anyone that works at that hospital work on me until the prove they are not like the rest.

ummm the department doesn't tell you about the dental plan. The letter that Chesson and Hill sends out every year explaining the dental plan tells you about this. I've been on the GSSP for three years and I've gotten it every year.

More importantly what freaking department are you in, I felt bad before but now I'm really starting to wonder about the reality of the problems you are having with them.

HUMANS make mistakes all humans make mistakes even you miss perfectly perfect. and since hospitals employ humans they make mistakes.

we clean up mistakes made by other hospitals all of the time, and yes we make them too, only ours are splashed across the headlines because we are Duke. When we make a mistake we learn from it and implement new processes to prevent it from happening again. We have had people tell us but you are Duke, cant you fix this? Folks, there is a higher power out there than Duke. and i dont mean another hospital. Despite the best of care, and the best of intentions, bad shit happens lewoods.

But i have seen Duke doctors and nurses in my own unit save the life of a 19 yo traumatic brain injury patient. The swelling cause him to stroke out over HALF of his brain. We didnt just save a body, this kid is walking and talking today. The doctor i was talking about called every neurosurgeon he knew to try to get this kid a hemicraniotomy, but the window of time for it to have done any good had passed. Medicine and top notch nursing saved this kid, so you can take your Duke bashing elsewhere.

Moved to NCSU after that letter went out. Where I was before we did not get the letter and no email from the department. Possibly one years ago when hill chesson first started the program but nothing since.

what lyme test would you have preferred them to run?

see the great thing about working one on one with attendings is they listen to us. and if we tell them patient so and so has requested blank test because of inaccuracies with the elisa method, chances are they will order western blot, or PCR or whatever the fuck you want.


if you go in with a calm rational attitude and nicely explain the tests you have had done and the treatment modalities you've tried, maybe every doctor wont try to reinvent the wheel.


maybe you could have been sent home with a PICC iv and a home health consult to do longterm IV doxycycline or rocephin for the lyme, and IV acyclovir for the herp.

hell, if anyone comes back with even a positive lyme blood test they are put on high dose iv doxy for empirical treatment just in case lyme is causing the problem.


Neuro is not an exact science. it is the last frontier of medicine. and we will likely never find all of the answers.

my mind is boggled, your department has nothing to do with your insurance, except that it tells the grad school you are a supported grad student. All the communication is handled by the insurer and student health, the communication is done yearly or semesterly depending on how your funding is set up.

the wife and me will be out there in vegas - so far the # of registrations is extremely low - for 10k i figured there would have been more but the fact that most ppl compete locally and don't have airline miles/hotel points to use makes it expensive for most ppl
