^

- We know it was big enough and high enough to be heard a long ways
- had a shockwave associated with it to shake houses

So it was either a secret gov. test, aliens, a weird meteor event, or a weird weather phenomenon

Moron, I understand thats what I'm saying. It would be fairly obvious to anybody in the FAA or local airbases if it was a military aircraft. And most of them can't shake a house or knock somebody down from a sonic boom at 35,000 feet. If they are cruising on the deck, they sure as hell can, but it would not cover such a large fucking area. As you said, its too wide.

Oh i wasn't doubting or questioning you, just rephrasing what I said earlier in an easy-to-read manner incorporating your suggesting that it couldn't be a sonic boom.

^^ So a meteor you don't believe could happen, but you think an earthquake would cover an area that small and not be noticed by anyone else?

^^^ This was a pretty large area.

I don't think it was an earthquake because it wouldn't have caused a single, large explosion sound.

"3. Mitchell County Earthquake - July 8, 1926

Centered in the southern part of Mitchell County, North Carolina, MMI VI-VII shaking occurred in the epicentral area. This sharp local earthquake toppled one chimney and cracked several others; cracked house foundations; moved houses on their foundations; broke water pipes; and threw glassware from shelves. The area of damage was about 0.5 miles long and 900 feet wide; but it was felt at least 6 miles from the epicenter and over an area of about 40,000 square miles (104,000 square kilometers).

What's unbelievable is that someone has to spell it out:

No planes are missing = All planes are accounted for = No reason to suspect a crash

It's Mother Earth reacting to ECU upsetting two ranked teams in a row. She was just a little off and hit the Clayton-Wendell area instead of Greenville.

if that's true, then they beat Mother Earth too. Not a bad winning-streak.

Last one this side of the continent was last Wednesday in Missouri, and it was only a 2.7. I think we can safely rule out an earthquake.

I don't think this is always true. It would depend on the angle and speed at which the object entered the atmosphere, as well as the size of the object and at what point it broke up. If it came down almost vertical relative to the Earths surface then I think its entirely possible it would not make much noise until it got closer to the thicker atmosphere in lower altitudes. At that point, it could have finished breaking apart and/or blown up when it hit the higher density air close to the ground. I don't think people heard the sound of it travelling so much as the sound of it slamming into the thick air and just blowing the hell up. If it was a small one, say volleyball to car size, and blew up at a low altitude, then it would not be a huge explosion, and it would have only been heard for a few miles.

[Edited on September 8, 2008 at 9:18 AM. Reason : I still think the funniest would be redneck fireworks/homemade explosives.]
