No one is suggesting paying them to stay, unless you seriously consider cutting taxes "paying" people, in which case you have much larger issues. Do you also consider your tax refund a gift from the government?10/17/2008 5:58:07 PM |

I didn't mean tax refunds.
I meant zero taxes, and checks at the end of the year. Net gain.
It's the only way we'll keep rich people from moving to Ireland. I mean, can anyone name a corporation that hasn't moved to Ireland?

Now we're just playing speculatives. I hope you really don't think the rich are going to up and move to Ireland over a couple percentage points. 10/17/2008 6:31:23 PM |

It is not a few percentage.
But more importantly, proof can be found in a few European nations which have made themselves tax shelters for their neighbors. The climate is very nice, I suspect some rich would move there for that reason alone, nevermind the 36% savings on their income tax. 10/17/2008 9:07:11 PM |

It's been all downhill ever since Google and Microsoft moved their headquarters to Ireland.

i have always been amazed at the lack of pragmatism that exists in america. the class envy crowd doesn't seem to realize that most of the "rich people" are smarter that most of the politicians in washington, and the one's who are not can afford to hire accountants and attorneys who are. every politician will try to promise "equality" but none will be able to deliver. the only thing anyone can try to do is to work hard enough to rise above the rest of the mendicants out there. 10/17/2008 10:44:52 PM |

Quote : | "ok heres the deal. I dont want the plumbers money. I dont really need anything from Obama or the government and Id rather them leave me alone. However this is not an option while living in the united states. Im not voting for McCain because his health care plan is completely worthless (wtf is 5k worth when dealing with health care and where is that money coming from) and his stance on Iraq doesnt solve anything and just spends more of my money. He's also pro-life.
this isnt a matter of wanting anyones money or taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Its a matter of stabalizing this country so its not top heavy. For example, real estate prices in NYC have almost quadrupled in the last 10 years. Why? because a small fraction of people with money inflated prices which caused people with out loads of money to buy property which had over inflated value. Now real estate prices in NYC are dropping fast and fucking over alot of the little people. The extremely rich who caused the problem are effect little because they have insanes amount of income. If the middle class starts to lose alot of money for what ever reason everyone will suffer because they wont be getting the plumbing fix in their house... b/c they're broke. This doesnt even bring into account the huge amount of lay offs. Middle income people wont even have money to keep their house thus fucking over joe the plumber again. By taxing those making over 250k and lessing the taxes on those making less allows us to maybe prevent the middle class from getting smaller and fucking everyone over in a huge way. " |
Great post. People miss the fact that the INSANE TAX INCREASES (WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO INCREASE TAXES ON ANYONE?!?!?! /mccain) are already at 36%. Why would anyone in america making less than 1 million dollars give a fuck? I know too many smart, educated, hard working people that HAD good jobs lose them only to see their jobs leave the country or just go away to increase the company's bottom line while their upper level management gets a $300,000 raise. Or the CEO gets a $1mil bonus.
The problem is that the rich people really don't give a damn about the "middle class", which in my opinion is AKA their employees that make their company go. There is no loyalty anymore, and giving them tax cuts has not stopped them from cutting benefits, cutting jobs, and fucking the average hard worker over. Obama has said that he wants ALL businesses to get tax breaks for keeping jobs in the US, increasing benefits (healthcare in this case), and looking out for their employees.
If you want to believe he's lying just to get elected, then you are entitled to that opinion. Just remember that George Bush ran as a conservative. Then he proceded to double an already insane national debt. But hey, if McCain repeats the false and off base talking points about obama's tax plan enough, they must be true right?
And for the record, I'm a registered republican, voted for that dumbass in office right now, and I am convinced that Obama's plan is no where near as "socialist" as McCain is making it out to be. I think Obama making the "redistributing of wealth" comment was retarded and I don't like it, but we're not talking about making rich people poor here. We're talking about a 3% tax increase on people that can damn well afford it. Doesn't hurt my feelings.

this whole thread is just further proof that a consumption tax is far superior to an income tax. 10/17/2008 11:16:37 PM |
