The Frontline Special is actually a really good documentary on the pros and cons of different healthcare systems around the world. It does a fairly decent job of evaluating what other countries did right, and wrong, and whether or not it would work here. I did think it was funny that in one of the countries (I believe Japan? I haven't watched it in almost a year) it mentioned that people started going to the doctor because they were lonely, and they had to be told to stay home.

^^it is very good (just like all of the stuff Frontline does, it's the best investigative journalism out there) and it was shocking that an MRI costs $98 in Japan but will run you $1200 in the US...what a great healthcare system we have
11/2/2008 4:56:16 PM
Yeah, the prices were pretty shocking to hear. I also thought their perspectives from doctors, insurance companies, patients and governments were all fantastic. It's impossible to evaluate a health care system without taking all of them into account. I would absolutely recommend anyone who hasn't watched it to take the time to do it. It's split up into short segments for every country, and it's definitely worth the small amount of time it takes.
11/2/2008 5:00:04 PM
where did wdprice go?
11/2/2008 5:50:27 PM
your mom's house, faggot
11/2/2008 5:52:09 PM
just hoping to see your retort. you made some excellent points.
11/2/2008 5:53:15 PM
yeah, i would argue some of those countries ahead of us in the rankings just based on the fact that there would be orders of magnitude more people to treat in the us than there is to treat in, oh i dont know, malta or luxembourg
11/2/2008 5:54:23 PM
to my knowledge my family has never been denied by bcbs, including a 100% payment of brain surgery for my brother that doctors were sure we would have to pay for ourselves.[Edited on November 2, 2008 at 5:58 PM. Reason : .]
11/2/2008 5:57:20 PM

11/2/2008 6:10:26 PM
if insurance won't pay for brain srugery then wtf good is it
11/2/2008 6:10:28 PM
11/2/2008 6:13:42 PM
that's a good point, i'm just saying what doctors said based on experience. we were hoping to have it half paid for, but they paid for all of it.i don't know if i'd really call it 'optional', but it had to do w/ his balance or something. was not life threatening.
11/2/2008 6:15:39 PM
just pay for it.IT WAS JUST SOME DAMN ALLERGY TESTING.
