My concern about a possible Raleigh date is Alice in Chains and Mastodon were both just recently here.

Granted we'd be looking at some time between Sept. 24 and 28, and that's several months down the road.

The hour-long event will begin on the band's Ustream channel at 5pm PST/8pm EST.

This review made me LOL ...

smarter that TOOL? yeah, ok ...

and that cover (^) is pretty sick.

So this new album is good eh? Saturday Night Wrist was better than that steaming pile that came out after White Pony, but it wasn't exceptional. Where does this one rank?

^^ I tend to enjoy s/t overall more than SNW (though I did dig SNW more initially while I was initially really disappointed with s/t...but prob because it followed white Pony).

It all depends on what you like from the deftones. If I have to take adrenaline out of the picture (I love that album...but its hard to compare to the rest) I think this is easily better than both SNW and s/t. It has a lot of the good elements of Around the Fur and White Pony yet still has its own flair. It is a really good overall rock album. I think it ties with ATF as my second favorite album behind WP.

word, too bad you aren't coming to the Charlotte one. You'll have to post the set list for me Although, is the 2nd on the alice in chains/mastodon tour or their headlining in between dates? I wanted to go to both but the one I am going to is just deftones and baroness so hopefully the 'tones play a real long set that night.

no one else going to the Charlotte show?

Deftones' set last night was ridiculous.

Song breakdown:

8 - Diamond Eyes
5 - Adrenaline
5 - White Pony
4 - Around the Fur

The amount of old stuff they played was ridiculous. 5 songs from adrenaline was absolutely awesome for me to see. Got to meet Frank, Sergio, and Steph after the show outside their bus and got Steph to sign my White Pony hat. I'll post some pics and a video at some point.

i was thiiiiiiis close to going, but the 3 hour drive and $76 tickets (for me and the lady) was just too much right now.

my friend (big Deftones fan) saw them in Charlotte last night and said they were terrible. didn't elaborate, but i got a text that said "this is one of the worst shows i've ever been to."

haha wow. Maybe he was a big fan of self titled and saturday night wrist or something (which they played nothing from). Outside of that, which didn't bother me at all as they are my two least favorite deftones albums, they were freaking on-point.

-The mix there at the Fillmore was incredible as usual; that place is slowly becoming one of my favorite venues
-In my opinion, comparing this set to the other sets I have seen listed for this tour, they played the best set list of any show on this tour Friday night
-Unlike tours for the previous two albums where Chino got fat and was struggling to stay in key and not getting into the shows, he is slimmed back down, was moving all the over the stage, and absolutely just nailed his vocals. Screaming, singing, all of it.

Also, I was there with an old friend of mine from MS/HS who is also a huge deftones fan (we were both obsessed back in the day haha). He has seen them over 15 times live and he said this was the best show he has seen them play since 2000.

Not sure what someone would have to complain from that show.

sorry for being in kind of a bad spot during the song and it's just on my phone but the audio came out pretty solid.

a lot of people have already put up videos from that show out on youtube if anyone is interested though.

saw them in Knoxville last night. They fuckin ripped it. I have seen them a handful of times, once being at Ozzfest, which sucked. Other than that performance though, they usually bring it and last night was no exception. Glad to see they are still holding it down

^yea man. I was encouraged by your post and heard from a few other friends of mine that live in charlotte that I should definitely see the show. Glad I did. Was a little disappointed that Baroness wasn't opening up for them, but i've seen them four times this year, so I dealt with it.

finally got to actually listen to that. It's amazing how solid these guys still are. We're closing in on 20 years after Adrenaline was released and they're still putting out top notch albums. Can't wait to hear the full thing. I really have to hear their whole albums because they have a certain mood to them that makes it extremely hard to judge from individual songs.

I think it's a little sludgier and has a little more layered texture going on than Diamond Eyes but it does sound like a good successor to Diamond Eyes. I just finished my first listen and I definitely enjoy it though. I need a little time for it to sink in fully but that's not unusual with their albums.

The more I listen to it the more I like it (not surprised). It's definitely slower so it took a little bit to fully grow on me, but it has such a good overall mood and the atmosphere on this album is fantastic. I don't think I've heard them put out an album with such a cohesive atmosphere across an entire album since White Pony so that aspect is kind of cool. Nothing sounds forced and it all really meshes together.

I've always loved that their music at times (as well as Chino's side projects) almost has this sort of 80s influence (think depeche mode, the cure, new order) mixed with that whole MBV, Ride, Slowdive, etc. dream pop sound that shows through sometimes. It really shows on this album with some of the synth work and the textures.

This album actually makes me even more excited for Chino's vocals on the 6-song Palms EP he's doing with the Isis guys.

Post sludge maybe?

I'll have it sometime tomorrow. Diamond Eyes grew on me as well. I remember having on a good pair of headphones and thinking about how far they (and technology) have come in terms of production. I still enjoy the older stuff but it has been nice hearing them change things up over the years. I'm sure when I get it I'll look forward to the next, which is essentially when Carpenter decides he wants to have a new ESP made.

Can't imagine it wouldIt's possible but I'd imagine they would keep a festival date more than even some individual show dates on their tour. They've been playing with a replacement bassist (and recorded/released 2 albums with him) for 4 years since Chi initially had the accident. I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel a handful of dates to attend whatever services they have for him of course but I wouldn't think canceling a festival appearance 3 weeks out is a given right now.

Definitely passing on that stupid festival though. I'm sure the reason they canceled their original Charlotte date on this tour was so that it wouldn't interfere with this festival they added to the tour. So instead of seeing them at a nice venue for a good price, I'm expected to pay a lot to see them play with a bunch of mainly terrible bands in a worse setting? Don't think so.

I wonder if all Chi's parts were done for Eros? I thought I remembered hearing all the instrumentation was done and they were just in the middle of vocals but I could be wrong.
