I just ordered the NC10. My buddy got the MSI Wind, but as I read, that keyboard is only 80% vs the 93% on the Samsung. I also didn't think the wind had a 6 cell battery but I guess they do now. Still the NC10 had a 7.5hr life with a couple different review sites. Definitely read up on it before plunging into anything other than the MSI Wind, as it seems those are the two top ones getting high reviews right now. 12/10/2008 5:13:54 PM |

if the NC10 will go down in price a little bit, i'd pick it up in a heartbeat. hell, i'll pay $450+ after xmas for one.
looks pretty rad. 12/10/2008 8:44:49 PM |

Alright, I have used:
Acer One, Eee PC 1000, HP MiniNote, s10, and that offbrand one (forget the name)
Looks like The HP MiniNote has the best keyboard and screen, from what I've seen. Everything else about it is supposed to be subpar.
It's looking like the NC10 if I can find it on sale. 12/10/2008 9:35:05 PM |

jchill, the NC10 is on amazon for ~479 w/ free saver shipping. That's as cheap as I found it. I even paid more than I should have because I told my boss to place an order through our CDW account. It was not discounted as I'd assumed it would be.

Not sure if your referring to the hardware or what but the HP Mini is sweet. The big difference is that the HP Mini has a 92% laptop size keyboard. Its the only netbook where I didnt have to pronate my hands to type. Try typing on all of them and see which one fits your hands best...but HP's def has the largest keyboard and palm rest.
The other thing that is cool about the HP is the included Upline software. Basically you get 6 months free but this (or similar) software is really critical for the whole net book platform. What is allows you to do is backup all your files on your primary desktop or laptop, and pull all your files down to your HP Mini (documents, presentation, photos, etc). If you dont use this feature then your going to go back and forth with a USB thumbdrive transferring data which could get annoying.
Check it out: https://www.upline.com/
You also get a flush USB connection with the HP. Depending on where you get it , either a 2 or 4 GB comes with it.

No. You're going to have to wait a generation or two before that happens. That's supposed to be one of Intel's goals for the next iteration of the Atom processor.12/15/2008 5:19:06 PM |

I decided on the NC-10. There are just too many reviews saying that it is the best-all-'round to pass it up.
Now, like every piece of electronics that I've bought, I will see it become obsolete in 10 months. 12/15/2008 8:55:33 PM |

I'm satisfied with mine so far. A few gripes, but nothing drastic and the keyboard more than makes up for it. With the exception of the home and end keys being derivatives of Fn and the weird multitouch functions that I haven't quite figured out yet I can pretty much type and browse full speed.
it feels so great to just carry this on top of my clipboard and not worry about a bag or charger. 12/15/2008 9:10:31 PM |

It looks like netbooks will get a performance boost in the near future.
Quote : | "The key to Ion is that the platform combines an Intel Atom CPU with a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GPU. The combination will allow netbooks running the Ion platform to play rich full 1080p HD media and even video games that the traditional netbook couldn't handle." |

Greetings and merry christmas. I'm posting this from my new Asus 1000 series Eee PC netbook. I upgraded it to 2 GB of RAM and I switched out the 160 GB standard HDD with a 64 GB SSD HDD. I've also installed ubuntu-eee. I'm really happy so far.
However, does anyone know how to fucking disable tap-to-click on the touchpad in Ubuntu? I hate tap-to-click. 12/25/2008 10:05:55 PM |

Ok i'm in the netbook market now. Mainly i'm looking for something between 300-400$ and bluetooth is very important. Plus a long battery life. I don't think the Lenovo S10 has bluetooth, which is a must because i want to tether it with my phone for 3g. What other options are there?
-although i guess bluetooth isn't a deal breaker because i have a really small usb bt adapter i use with my desktop that would be hardly noticeable on my netbook.

I'm sooo close to buying the S10, but I keep chickening out. The overseas models have bluetooth, but not the ones sold here. Consequently, you can get the module and install it yourself for ~$25 and 10 mins of your time...

Yeah i'm really thinking about the Asus 1000. It seems like the best all round. The S10 only has a 3 cell battery, i want one with a 6. How is the NC10? NC10 or Asus 1000? Trying to keep it under $400.1/1/2009 5:20:12 PM |

The NC10 is stellar. It had the best reviews out of all of the netbooks I looked at and the only one that really came close was the MSI Wind. I paid 500 even, but to me the extra 70 bucks was worth it for the crazy battery life and a little bigger keyboard. It's 93% of an original.
check out the review I linked a page or two back. 1/1/2009 5:59:30 PM |
