someone mentioned fall out boy, so i threw in one of their more humorous song titles. what's wrong with that? i like fall out boy too, so does that make me an even bigger banana head?

geez people, music is just something to be entertained by. some people like stuff because it sounds good. some people like stuff because the lyrics are profound and speak to them. don't you see? it doesn't matter if you like it or not. that's the beauty of it. everyone can choose for themselves. saying that a band is shitty only makes you look like a closed-minded fucktard who wants everyone to think their own personal music choices are superior.

my friend decided to buy the Buffet's Greatest Hits CD and play it in the car all the way back from Myrtle Beach

thank you iPod

I didn't make fun of him for listening to it I just can't listen to it or I will lose my frickin mind

I honestly think I went a little bit insane the semester I had my hardest classes ever and my roommate played nonstop Chesney and Buffet

I'm not going to make fun of someone for listening to that(maybe a little) just don't play it around me - I can't listen to anything I don't like myself for long periods of time

and I know I have some guilty pleasures when it comes to music

^Munster? Kyle? who was it?

buffett is good party background music. he's good filler in the background of a july 4th party or other things like that where you aren't really focusing on the music and stuff like that. I think most people go to see him for the party atmosphere and not the live music experience. That's the way i see it at least.

exactly, Buffett and Kenny Chesney make their living off of the atmosphere they give off at their concerts, and they dont change their format because thats what people want to see. Its like a GWAR concert, people dont always go for the music, they go for the show

People dont need to have artistically great music all the damn time, its nice to have some mindless happy music every once in a while, if you dont like it its on you

I think jaybee likes to argue just to argue, I would hate to be in the same room as him and Brett ( Biofreak70 )

I love Tom Petty's music when I'm partying but when I went to his concert I was one of those people

I barely remember him on the stage I was so wasted

It was Foot - I think some of the other people in the car were dying

he was like I'm playing this CD the whole way back to Raleigh and he did it - that would piss anyone off

Banana head, no. Slave to a marketing machine for a soulless pitch-corrected shitshow, yes.

And you're very right. That's why I, as a fan of music and what it can do to/for people, am personally insulted by a show that essentially treats the music as wallpaper. If you wanna go to a big party, that's fine, but don't pass it off as a musical experience when it's not.

there are plenty of artists on major labels who get significant mainstream radio airplay and don't suck

the artists named in this thread are not among them

fall out boy is a terrible, terrible band, period.

We get it, you don't like some of the music that others in this thread do. You also won't be at the concert that this thread is for. We hear you, we know your stance, seriously, the horse is dead.

So lets just move on, k?

actually i hate nickleback with a passion. the only song i'll listen to by them is "figured you out" because for some reason, my skin doesn't crawl when i hear it. every other song they've done bothers me.

but i am a big kenny chesney fan. does that make me an idiot yet? i can keep naming off popular musical artists that i enjoy listening to if that will make you guys call me an idiot again. it's popular music for a reason.

"I heard cuts by The Kinks on your speakers
I saw Poe and Artaud on your shelves
While The Last Laugh's first scene on your flat panel screen
Lit Chanel that you've wrapped around yourself
You've got outsider art by an artist you arguably kidnapped to pin on the wall
Your designers have slyly directed the eye down pink lines here and your well lit pawn

You've got taste, you've got taste
What a waste that that's all that you have"

sorry I was listening to this song earlier today seemed appropriate

oh! i like Poe, at least i liked that first CD she had. don't know about any of her other stuff though. does that make me cool?

oh, and to continue with the somewhat angry chick rock, i also love Tracy Bonham. please oh please, tell me i have good taste.

^i've been informed that those lyrics refer to Edgar Allen Poe, the writer. i think my faux pas in this case is hilarious, so i'm not going to edit it. sorry for thinking Poe referred to that angry chick that had all that angry chick music back in 1995

I get that, I have a similar problem with my opinion that zombie movies all blow donkey balls, but I don't go into the numerous zombie movie threads to parrot my opinion over and over and over and over and over again.

Do you spend great lengths of time and great amounts of effort doing work that's related to horror movies, only to have shitty zombie movies thrust in your face? It's not the same.

The point of me coming into threads like these (where people bitch about ticket prices, for instance) is initially just to say, "Hey, take a look around. There's better shit around that also doesn't cost an arm and a leg and take place in a bad-sounding venue." When it turns out that the person doesn't really give a shit about music to begin with, it's a whole different ballgame.

I LIKE MINE WITH LETTUCE AND TOMATO!

And just because I can, I'm putting Buffett's "Songs You Know By Heart" into the PC here at work. I'm going to listen to it in its entirety and put it on loop until my day ends at 5pm.

Eclectic means you like everything. Country, rock, R&B, adult contemporary, jazz, classical - I like a little of everything. Are you acting like a jackass on purpose, or does it just come naturally??

But you're right. Buffett, Chesney, and DMB are obviously the only bands I like, thus placing me nicely into this cookie-cutter-mold you've created in your head where all fans of shitty music fit.

Music is a form of entertainment to me, not a way of waxing philisophical, achieving zen, or reaching a more spiritual mental state and finding a deeper meaning to life....or whatever else you people think it does.

If it sounds good to me, I listen to it. So I have bad taste in music, so what? I enjoy it, and I don't feel bad for that. I don't care if the lyrics talk about a sexy tractor or a cheeseburger with Heinz 57...I listen and I enjoy.

This is what I've been saying all along. You don't really care about music. That's fine. You're more than welcome to enjoy the prepackaged shitfests that people like Jimmy Buffett and Kenny Chesney put on.

It doesn't mean they shouldn't be ashamed of themselves musically, though.

I feel like half this thread has been some sort of personal attack on me because of the groups that I choose to listen to and see in concert. It's ridiculous the way some of you have come across. As if the fact that I merely seek to be entertained by music is somehow wrong. That I should be listening to those artists whom you deem worthy, and by not doing so, I'm somehow shunned from having any type of opinion whatsoever because my musical tastes are "shitty" in your estimation.

It's downright rude and I refuse to further justify myself. Have fun guys.

Kenny Chesney is the homogenized version of Garth Brooks and Jimmy Buffett, hand-tuned by a record company executive to sell records to rednecks who love partyin' but think Jimmy Buffett is a reefer-smokin' hippie.

You like him because someone designed him for you to like.
