for page 3Upon further research, an immigrant only needs to stay married to a U.S. Citizen for 2 years to obtain a permanent Green Card.Once the immigrant gets married to the US citizen, they get what is called Conditional Permanent Residency. After 2 years of marriage, they can file with the USCIS for Removal of Conditions and get a permanent Green Card. After that, they can get divorced and still maintain their Green Card. Furthermore, they only need to live in the US for 1 more year to apply for US Citizenship. Damn, now I see why all those Russian broads are looking for rich American hubbies. BECOME AN AMERICAN CITIZEN IN 3 YEARS!! ALL EXPENSES PAID!!![Edited on February 20, 2009 at 3:33 PM. Reason : a]

But I am sure the USCIS checks in regularly to make sure the marriage is legitbut I may have read that wrong. maybe you have to live here for 3 years AFTER you get the permanent Green Card to file for US Citizenship, so 5 years total. I will try to get some clarification on that. But either way, you only have to be married for 2 years to get a Permanent Green Card. The only catch is that the US Citizen has to initiate the marriage and has to be able to prove thatbtw, here is my source:http://faq.visapro.com/Marriage-US-Citizen-FAQ.asp[Edited on February 20, 2009 at 3:55 PM.
