She’s damn close to being funny, but can come off as a major bitch at times too. She really is quick on her feet thouh

Give Conan a week to get his groove back and all will be well. I think he was trying to play it safe last night and overthought everything instead of just going with his off-the-cuff humor, which is typically funny as hell. They need to figure how to mesh Andy into the show more effectively (aside from bits).

So weird he looks to his left to talk to Max now.

"every time i try to watch conan i just can't get over the fact that he'll say something funny or get an idea that's funny and then proceed to beat it to death to the point where he ruins it."

What late night guy doesn't do this? Leno, Kilborn and (Johnny) Carson all did, so does Letterman (and he's way more grating about it than any of the others). They have to fill five hours of programming a week, of course they're gonna end up running something into the ground. Conan at least does it consciously and makes fun of himself and the show while doing it.

I don't get people ragging on the first show. No episode of any late night show has ever been a non-stop hour-long laugh riot for me. There are usually some giggles, maybe a hardy chuckle and probably a bit that drags for a while. If you sat stone-faced through last night's episode, you're either 85 or you have the lamest sense of humor around. And if you don't think it'll get much, much better, you're just retarded. How many people were calling Fallon a failure during his first week? Everyone. Now folks in this thread are saying he's already eclipsed Conan? C'mon.

And I, too, was pretty excited they kept the old theme.

Addendum:

Maybe you homos were expecting them to blow their wad on night #1? Triumph + Masturbating Bear + 1865 Baseball Part II ain't happening.

I'm actually glad they didn't just fall back on a bunch of easy rockers right out the gate.

In conclusion: suck a dick. Conan O'Brien is your father.

i'm not talking about repeating the same jokes in the monologue night after night. i know everyone does it because there's not enough going on in current events every single day to write new material for each episode. i was referring more to conan's tendency to spend way too much time than he should on a joke. instead of just delivering it and moving on to the next one he'll sit there and try to milk as many laughs out of it as possible until it becomes tiresome. and conan got his whole schtick of making fun of the show from letterman, only he's worse about it than dave, and it ends up being just as tiresome as what i just talked about before.

wow the hate in here is unbelievable. FALLON more watchable than Conan? that might be the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. i don't think I've laughed at him once in my entire life, to include SNL. i just do not understand some people's sense of humor. of course, this country has catapulted reality tv to the top of the ratings so it doesn't really surprise me either

just watched it on hulu. yea Conan definitely was holding back/nervous on the intro and the chemistry between andy and conan needs to come back along with conan's crowd interaction. but all the material was still quality.

it's nice that Conan has finally changed his delivery, at least a little bit. He used to deliver every single monolouge joke like:

Quote :
"'setup'

[pause, silence]

"yeah, yeah" [clap his hands together]

[pause, silence]

'punchline!'"

now, the basic delivery is still mostly the same, but he's cut out the unnecessarily long pauses, cut down on the "yeah.... yeah....", and only claps his hands together on about half of the jokes. I do wish he would work on the hand clap some more, though, because it's right next to his mic

2 days into it and I'm enjoying it pretty much the same as late night conan. I think chemistry needs to be worked out between Conan and Andy and Conan and Max a little still. Maybe just Conan having to adjust to having Andy back on the show(a narrator we all assumed/knew he would have more dialogue with) while still having banter with Max etc.

Overall all though I'm loving it. It seems like everyone not enjoying the show were people that already didn't enjoy late night with Conan (which obviously makes sense). If everyone enjoyed the same sense of humor, there wouldnt be so many talk shows probably, so I guess those who don't enjoy Conan will just have to agree on different tastes in humor.

^^Close, but not quite there yet. He did seem much more relaxed though. He also did the puppet string thing at the beginning, which was nice to see. Though the monologue was funnier than normal.

you might have misread that sentence, as i did the first time.

Quote :
"Leno does safe, predictable comedy for a very large audience of people who tune in to see safe, predictable comedy. There’s nothing wrong with that — I’m never going to rip on my fifty-year-old uncle for not DVRing Tim & Eric Awesome Show."

why did you have a problem with that sentence? tim & eric are not predictable comedy, and while i'm sure their humor does not have a defined age range, it certainly aligns more with certain demographics/ages.

I don't get late night shows. They spend millions on the studio, then makes shows with a production value of $0. I guess that's it, really. A tiny upfront fee then a cheap hour of programming.

You would think though, if these are the best writers in the industry, they could come up with some decent jokes occasionally. Or at least the frontman should be a genuinely funny/witty person. These guys aren't exactly Groucho Marx (he used to host The Tonight Show, btw)

Seem slike he's dumbing down his humor to keep Leno's old audience, trying to fill Leno's shoes. Thats understandable, but I hope he makes the show his own eventually.

agreed. i can see the point about the intro being too long, but so far i find the hype and build up to be one of the funnier parts about it. the animations and conan's reactions are also amusing.
