i don't want to pay $10k for school out of my yearly salary, that's a fairly large chunk. i'm quite fiscally responsible, i won't go into details, but a good portion of my paycheck is drafted into money market/investment accounts as well as my 401k. how many 20 year olds do that?

there are some things that are okay to buy with credit, education being one of them.

Sure they say that, but I know most schools treat it exactly as a dollar amount. On my financial aid forms from UNCW, it has my EFC subtracted as a dollar amount from the estimated cost of attendance. So they do use it as more than a code.
