Too long to read from the beginning, probably been covered or isn't the point of the thread, whatever...

Why do people have conference pride? To legitimize their W-L record I guess. You want your conference to do well in the tournament because if you have a good conference record you can brag about how awesome your team was, even with a tough schedule. If you have a lousy conference record it becomes the excuse. "Well, our conference is tough. We would have cleaned house in conference x."

The other reason I could come up with... maybe people enjoy pulling for teams that they are more familiar with. It's probably easier for someone in Raleigh to pull for GT in the tournament than it is for them to pull for Washington State University, and you have to pull for someone to make the games more interesting.

Personally, I don't really care about conference pride. It doesn't do my team any good to have other people in the conference leave us in their wake as the rich teams get richer. If UNC/Duke is in the tournament I always pull for a 1st round loss for them. Since they are usually the #1 seed, my wish is that UNC will be the first #1 seed to lose to a 16 seed in the first round.

I usually go moreso for personal connection pride, as long as the other team isn't a true rival.

I went to State, so I obviously love them first and foremost.

I also have gone to school and lived in Memphis and Tampa, so USF and Memphis are also favorites.

Obviously only one of those is worth anything in bb, so yeah, go Tigers.

I will never pull for unc or maryland in anything.

I will almost never pull for boston college, wake forest, florida state, virginia tech or miami in anything.

I will sometimes pull for duke in certain situations.

I always pull for Georgia Tech, Clemson, and Virginia in almost every situation (unless they are playing Western Carolina, ETSU, or Arizona State basketball, and of course N.C. State).
