Just went to the SPCA and must say I was not impressed with any of the cats. They don't seem to give a fuck about people and their faces never show any emotion and their eyes are freaky. They don't smile, move their eyebrows, etc. like dogs do and aren't as fun to play with.

Well after getting the cold shoulder from every cat at the SPCA I have decided I want a small dog.
I have heard of people who trained their dogs to use litter boxes.
How hard will this be?
Out of all the small dogs I'd want some sort of terrier, any advice on which would be the easiest to potty train?

I want a terrier of some type.
Maybe if I smack the puppy across the room first time he has an accident he'll learn sooner.

I really don't know if I should get a terrier with all the responsibility needed to have one.
Anyone litter box train a small dog?
Anyone have luck with a dog by itself at home during the day without tearing anything up?
