^ I can be there...no league games this weekend due to holiday. Do we need to call ahead and get on a list or something?

I might be down but i'd have to buy a helmet/stick/gloves which i'm not sure i'm ready to do quite yet. (unless anyone knows of any sales going on)

as far as skill level its hard to say. i played from 5th to 10th grade and played up an age group a couple seasons on the travel team but was pretty average in that setting. i taught lessons and coached a bit in highschool but that was almost 7 years ago. i would imagine i'd be pretty solid with a bit of ice time. i played center growing up but i have 0 confidence in my ability to win a faceoff and therefore would prefer to play wing.

anyone up for a public skating session tonight or tomorrow? (no homo)

If ya'll are serious about getting a team together and playing ASAP, Iceplex is starting summer league (12 weeks) June 10th (deposit due the 1st).

I think its the best ice in Raleigh (perhaps second to Wake Forest). Great atmosphere, Russ (manager) can be kind of a dick though.

PM me if you have any questions, I've been playing in the area from Learn-to-Play through upper-C since moving here.

The ice better be good over there. It's so fucking big if it were sloppy you'd be dead after 30 second shifts.

haha, true. I like big ice - less chance of hitting/being hit. More dump and chase = better workout overall and less scoring (tighter game).

less chance of hitting = tighter game

DOES NOT COMPUTE

more space to operate = more open game

i fucking hate that place in every way, though, and it's only partly big-ice bias

some of it is tiny locker room bias

russ bias

boards are too tall bias

etc.

I guess you'll never make the olympic team then

I think I might be able to do Sunday night. I don't get in until late, but might be able to pull it off. Details?

Oh shit. That place is all the way up in Wake Forest.

I'll try to make it, might be impossible. Keep me updated.

I guess I'll just have to make the 2010 Olympic team and forget about 2014 and 2018.

I didn't even realize they were playing on an NHL sized rink next year. Maybe you still have a chance.

To be fair, I just noticed that gosabres plays C, so the game may indeed be tighter if you're not dealing with guys zipping in and out of open, undefended space.

Ok I'm easing into this

Decided to just do stick and pucks this summer and maybe a league in the fall if I get into it

So I'd like some advice on skates and sticks

I'm not looking for the most cutting edge stuff out there, but I don't mind paying for quality, within reason

Thanks in advance

in pennsylvania and all my hockey gear is in tact, even if it is yellow and full of spiders.

i doubt i'll be able to make anything on sunday, but definitely this week. although i refuse to skate before having my skates sharpened, which brings up the question: is there any place that is particularly good or bad at sharpening skates?

It all depends on the individual sharpening them. I get mine sharpened at 5 hole sports in Cary.

As long as you're 18, you don't have to wear a cage.

I need some advice on skates. Its been a long time since i've owned a pair, last ones i had were some original Reebok pumps when they first entered the hockey world in the mid 90's. They were nice, and i also had older Bauers, but i know they were bought out by Nike so i'm unsure of them.

who's on top these days?

i've been thinking about taking a learn-to-play class. don't know if i'd go to far after that though - while i'm a decent athlete, i'm not big, like 5'6 120.

i'd probably get my ass ROCKED, hahaha

puck_it is tiny, and he doesn't have any problems.

The funny thing is that LTP and lower C league actually has more contact than upper levels of adult league because no one out there is very mobile/agile on their skates and there are more collisions, etc.
