Anyone who thinks they look better in jeans and sandals than a nice suit is dumber than a sack of hammers

Unless you are a complete unshaven unkempt bum

this thread is full of lol's

if i can help it, i'll never take a job where i can't wear shorts and tshirts and flipflops on the days when i'm doing work on my own...i have and do dress up (from khakis and a polo to a suit, depending on the client and the function) when necessary, but my day-to-day attire is insanely comfortable

i make what i consider to be pretty good money, too (but, like the definition of "looking good", "good money" is subjective)

I am comfortable in a suit, just as comfortable as I would be in a t shirt, sweats and a baseball cap

I think most people who hate dressing nice just buy off the rack and don't have clothes that fit them properly

Its amazing what a good tailor can do

yeah i'm (insert expletive of your choice) because I'd rather get clothes that fit right instead of gobbling up the 2 for 1 sale at S&K

Cargo shorts will always be affordable

You have to spend money to look decent

It's always been my stance in business that if I need to dress up to impress someone, they're not someone I care to impress.

Then again, I do web dev, so the fact that I'm not obese and bathe daily gives me a leg up on everyone.

Are you telling me this story to convince yourself that it's true, or to convince me? You would have a lot more credibility if you actually had just one hot girlfriend once in your life.

When I wear suits I like to replace the handkerchief with just some folded up Benjamins.

It lets people know that in addition to just dressing well, I also have more money than God.

i kinda agree with Slave on this.

Maybe it's just the corporate culture at my company, but you can pretty much tell where people are in the company based on how they dress. And people typically dress based on their status in the company. It's almost expected for anyone with a college degree to be dressed professionally, in a suit, or at least a tie.

We have some technicians (with associates degrees) who wear jeans and cheap, worn clothes, but anyone who has any aspirations to move up within the organization has to dress for the job that they want.

If anyone shows up wearing shorts or sandals, I can guarantee that they won't last 30 minutes without being sent home.

professional dress is also how i was raised. my grandfather wore a suit every day of his life. even on weekends. my dad did the same every day of his professional career.

So when you wear a suit does one of your sleeves just hang limply, or does your tailor do something special with the free real estate?

jeans, polo, and chaco flips this morning...staff meeting at 11, but it's just the office folks so no occasion to dress up

with as hot as it's going to be the rest of the week, i'll probably rock cargo shorts

My boyfriend's boss has his PE, his own engineering firm, and wears jeans to work a lot... I've also seen him in khaki shorts and flip flops. The interns get to wear shorts and flip flops, too.. So I think it just depends on where you work.

I work at a law firm and one of the attorneys (she's the partner's wife, go figure) flips out if you have open-toed shoes on and you have even slightly chipped nail polish.

really, it should be "sand-colored" and "wool"...i mean, if you're going to be pretentious, at least TRY to understand the nuances of the language you claim to speak

as you've written it, the sand actually colored the Moroccan wool itself!

I freaking loved casual Fridays.

Do you know how hard it is to chase down 3 year olds while wearing nice clothes and heels? Kids were always getting shit on me too.

You do realize that the person that you used as an example of success probably wears a t shirt to work every day, right?

I almost wish I had reason to get a nice tailored suit

As it stands, the only things I ever wear a suit for are interviews (which don't happen too often obviously) and a handful of other special occasions. Generally < 10 times total per year.

Working at the university, what many corporate folk would consider "casual" is the norm around here. The only folks who *ever* wear suits in my division are the dean and one of the division directors, and in both cases it's often jacket but no tie. Merely being the IT person, I usually do button-down or polo with khakis/slacks but I can (and sometimes do) get away with jeans. As long as the shirt isn't a t-shirt and is tucked in, and I'm not wearing shorts, I'm good. Which is convenient.

I like how he name drops on the shirt and the tie, but not the suit itself.
