Are men more willing to date women who aren't career-focused?"

It's a pretty huge turnoff for me if a girl doesn't have any professional ambition. I'm sure being a waitress is fun, but really, what does that say about your priorities?

i graduated in december and moved to a strange town where i have zero professional contacts, and am thus unemployed. i mean, you know, i *aspire* to have a career, preferably in teaching, but OH SHIT schools really aren't doing a lot of hiring down here right now, what with their budgets being torn to shreds and experienced teachers being let go and all. i am going to end up getting some horrible low-wage shit job, but i'm putting it off because i'm fucking dreading the sting of minimum wage while the memory of working my ass off to finally graduate (having returned to school after several years of menial labor) is still so fresh. in spite of my general uselessness, someone actually bothered to marry me and is working his ass off to support us, so that's comforting. his career definitely comes first in the sense that he has to do what he has to do in order to ensure our survival - currently that means he's out of town all week every week sweating his ass off with a drilling crew in triple-digit temperatures in central florida, which sucks for both of us, but we're making the best of it. and he's my hero, not just because of what he's doing right now, but also because he put his career on hold and moved to NC for a year so i could do what i needed to do to finish my degree. that was pretty awesome. anyway, what was my point again? ummm shit i forgot. oh yeah - career vs. relationship - i think that it's probably best if you balance the two as much as you can. of course, if it's just some random chick that shows up for booty calls a couple of nights a week and then goes off to maryland with some guy who is so clueless as to consider her his awesome girlfriend, yeah, you should probably just focus on your career for now.

/end story.

^^I hate to burst your bubble but you don't want to get a job making minimum wage...but want a career in teaching...isn't that pretty much what a teaching job pays?

An entry level teaching job pays at least twice minimum wage plus benefits, you tard.

^^barely...thats still not saying much.

^nothing against teaching but if your reason for not getting a minimum wage or 'retail' type meaningless job is because it doesn't pay well...being a teacher isn't that much better. (in terms of wage)

Look, being a teacher pays a modest enough wage that you aren't struggling. It might not buy all the toys that you buy to fulfill your life, but it isn't a minimum wage job.

Seriously, you don't become a teacher for the pay. You do it because you love it.

omg you tard, teaching might not pay as much as IBM or wherever-the-fuck-in-RTP you plan to retire from, but i spent 2 years working just as an assistant at an elementary school and made enough money to live comfortably enough on. i'm not after a fucking million-dollar home or a country club membership. as an NC public school employee i had awesome benefits, FREE health insurance for fuck's sake... and plus i absolutely loved my job. LOVED IT. the only reason i left was to go back to school full-time for one semester and finish my degree so i could be that much closer to actual teaching. now i live in FL which a) pays teachers better than NC, and b) provides easily accessible temporary teaching certification - so now all i need is the economy to quit failing so that some school can afford to hire me. seven bucks an hour isn't really enough to justify herding morons through a check-out line while some douchebag manager talks to me like i'm on a short bus field trip. if i have to do it, out of complete desperation, i will, but i'd rather stick two freshly sharpened bamboo skewers into my eyeballs.

You should start a livejournal blog. There are plenty of other insecure people there with entitlement issues that have livejournal blogs too. That way you can write all you want, blame "the economy" for all your problems, and everyone will know ahead of time that it won't be worth reading in the first place.

OUCH! thanks for setting me straight, there, man. it's been awhile since i've been on TWW, i guess i forgot most of y'all only have 1-2 line attention spans. sorry to inconvenience you with my detailed fucking response. i was simply replying to the dumbshit who suggested that teaching is a minimum wage job. you sound pretty bitter about LJ, did some cute emo girl drop you from her friend list? eat a greasy goat dick.

I have known a lot of people that have personal blogs/livejournals and even their own dedicated websites in order to ramble on about pointless shit happening in their lives that no one cares about, except other people that have similar blogs/livejournals and dedicated websites. Ironically, these people often have much deeper psychological issues that they should really discuss, but never end up talking about online. These internet mediums are simply a complex way of lying to yourself, with the support of other people that also lie to themselves. It would be a lot easier to just spend a little time looking inward, than blaming the external world for all of your problems in life, lol. Then again, that would make sense, and we can't have that.

Yeah, family > career.

I say that now, being married and all. Also it may have something to do with the fact that my job is just a job. I don't love it and don't hate it. Might be different if it were my dream job.
