^^ it also makes us an easy target for praise in the rest of the world also. There are countries who cheer us you know........

We are the leaders of the free world. I'd rather be a leader than a follower, but thats just my opinion.

They started working on that hotel last year, it sat dormant for like 16 years and they plan to open it in a few years

Every detail I've read so far ends like this. Shit, CNN could be making it up as they go along as long as they say that and people will believe it.

I've heard rumors of that, but theres also concern that its completely uninhabitable because of poor engineering and the fact that the koreans used their own inferior concrete for it after their Soviet aid dried up mid-construction.

whether or not you personally agree with this, it is what we as a country have been going for for the better part of the last century...

Obama has been getting great criticism for waiting too long to react to what's going on in Iran, and I'm sure it will happen with NK.

so there's a NK ship suspected of transporting arms. a U.N. treaty gives all countries the right to stop NK ships and inspect them if it is believed the ship contains banned items, such as arms. BUT, the U.S. has "its hands tied behind its back" because obama isn't sure if he wants to inspect the ship. this BS is right in line with his opinion on Iran. an evil dictatorship is murdering and beating its citizens, so what does Obama do? says violence is bad and writes a please stop hurting people letter. what a moron.

I guess we wanted to show the North Koreans how it's done?

"VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – The Air Force says it has successfully launched an unarmed Minuteman 3 intercontinental ballistic missile from a California base, firing it to targets in the Pacific Ocean.

Lt. Raymond Geoffroy said the ICBM was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 3:01 a.m. Monday.

He said it carried three unarmed re-entry vehicles that hit their targets near the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands, some 4,200 miles away.

On clear mornings, missile launchings from Vandenberg can be seen as far away as Los Angeles, 140 miles to the southeast, but fog along the coast made Monday's launch difficult to see even in the immediate area, Geoffroy said.

The Air Force said the launch was an operational test to check the weapon system's reliability and accuracy.

Test data will be used by United States Strategic Command planners and Department of Energy laboratories."

I dont think NK wants a war. I think they're just trying to see how much they can get away with and how far they can push Obama.

Somebody said Japan would respond quicker than us but Japan doesn't even have a military yet.

Also, if a man goes to the gym everyday all day, hes not going to be able to feed his family but you wouldn't say "you can't beat me in afight, you can't even feed your own family" would you?

Can anyone go into detail about the cost of precision bunker busting bombs becase if the whole nk military is dug in, regular bombing will only hurt civilians. An invasion would seem required because iirc from the Iraq war, only dozens of these top of the line bombs are even in supply, not thousands.

Lastly, can someone elaborate on the sea war vs nk subs.

JSDF - not a military per se, but they are organized and equipped like one.

I said that, and Japan most certainly has weapons and the means to defend itself.

Quote :
"In November 2005, constitutional revisions were proposed which would create a cabinet level Defense Ministry while keeping the old clauses mandating official non-aggression. Under the proposed revisions, the JSDF would also be formally referred to as a military force for the first time since its establishment. The new wording proposed is "In order to secure peace and the independence of our country as well as the security of the state and the people, military forces for self-defense shall be maintained with the prime minister of the cabinet as the supreme commander." The amendment is gaining more and more public support in recent years.[11] On June 8 2006, the Japanese cabinet endorsed a bill elevating the Defense Agency to Defense Ministry. This was passed by the Diet in December 2006.

A Japanese soldier with a night-vision deviceJapan has also deepened its security and military ties with Australia and its leaders are talking about the formation of a military pact in Asia similar to NATO"

"(GFP)
GFP provides a unique analytical display of information covering nations from around the world with statistics based on various public sources. Countries covered include the major global players prominent in today's international landscape along with other smaller nations making the news - this spectrum helping to produce a broad comparison of military strengths from across the globe.

Rank 1-10 Observations: The United States (GFP formula value of 0.184) remains the undisputed leader of our list thanks to their staying "active" in global hotspots, showcasing the world's largest navy and continuing to poor in gobs of money into defense. Our formula sees China edge out Russia but only by the slimmest of margins (0.238 versus 0.241 respectively) with an edge in available manpower and financial capital. France (0.636) and Germany (0.672) are relative equals for the most part but the GFP formula gives a slight edge to France thanks to an aircraft carrier and capable navy as well as a bump in defense spending. Brazil (0.756) is the most powerful South American country on the list thanks to available manpower and a capable navy. Japan (0.920) is a "sleeper" power that sneaks into the top ten with a good navy, strong logistical infrastructure and capital."

I don't know how anyone can still say that japan doesn't have a "military", considering the size and equipment of the JSDF and the fact that japan is in the top 5 globally for defense budgets.
