I'm pretty sure he can still get one, just not as easily. The NCAA can grant another one, they gave Colmer a 6th year. 6/29/2009 9:55:28 AM |

Quote : | ""Bottom line is NO. Irving will get no help from the NCAA with a "medical redshirt" or anything of the sort. "
What part of your redshirt post makes you think this?" |
Because he's already had a redshirt year. You are allowed ONE redshirt year, and he took his in 2006. There can be no other redshirt year. No redshirt, no medical redshirt (not that such a thing actually exists), no medical hardship waiver.
A 6th year is a different beast. It is not the same thing as a redshirt or a medical redshirt or a medical hardship waiver. A 6th year waiver is a 6th year waiver, and those are applied for and granted after the senior year. Bottom line is that Nate will be a RS-JR this year and a RS-SR next year, no matter what. After the 2010 season, he can stick his name in for a 6th year waiver if he feels like it.6/29/2009 10:08:49 AM |

The lung collapse hurts like hell, but its a crazy-simple process to repair usually.
They pumped mine up like a bicycle tire and I was back to normal in about a week. However, I've never felt like my lung capacity was 100% since.
Just my personal take.

My lung colapsed during football season in High School. I was back to full strength in a month. But I was strongly urged not to push it. It all depends on the scar tissue. How it heals determines the time table for recovery.

the real issue at this point is the broken leg, not the collapsed lung (assuming the surgery did go as good as the article says). if the surgery was successful and the lung is fine, then he will be fine soon, but with the leg being broken who knows how that will heal. Hopefully it heals right and doesn't get infected. 6/29/2009 11:12:00 AM |

^^ I know, I agree with him, but you know what I'm saying.
^Does anyone know which bone? Upper or lower leg? Right or left? It would help if it was a lower leg so he could wear a boot and it would not limit his mobility as much. 6/29/2009 11:31:53 AM |

^^^ modlin, i guess i agree, but they still broke the accident. I just don't think our athletics dept has a clue with these new mediums of communication. If the N&O wants breaks, stop asking mike glennon is he gonna transfer.
^^ clever, this was a poignant joke i did not intend, but nevertheless, its funny as well.
^ tallyho, i just meant that yes, we have an official NCSU football twitter page, but nothing went out on it about the "successful" surgery. If you're gonna announce the accident, why not also follow thru and let everyone else know what the dilly is. 6/29/2009 3:37:43 PM |

broken legs heal fast. we might get him for a few games, but i would honestly rather medical redshirt him than lose a year of eligibility for playing. 7/7/2009 8:50:06 AM |

Provided he bounces back from this, and barring some other unforseen injury, I doubt he is that concerned with losing a season of eligibility. Considering he is only a Redshirt Junior and flirted with leaving for the NFL last year, I don't think he sees himself here 3 more seasons. 7/7/2009 8:56:45 AM |

i thought the guys on PP said he could not receive a medical redshirt at all b/c he is already a redshirted player.
Quote : | "There is also a medical redshirt that may be obtained to replace a season lost to injury. A medical redshirt, called a "medical hardship" by the NCAA, can be granted by the governing body for a season lost completely or almost completely to injury. A medical redshirt can allow a player to gain additional eligibility beyond the standard four academic calendar years. On rare occasions, a player may be allowed to play in his or her sixth year of college if he or she suffered a serious injury which kept him or her from playing for more than one season." |

I can't imagine Nate would leave early unless he comes back this year and is productive. His draft stock can't be great right now and he'll have another year to prove himself again. 7/7/2009 9:46:27 AM |

^I know. What i'm saying is he might not even play this year. So he'll come back for the 2010 season (his rs senior season) and head to the NFL after that. I seriously doubt he'd come back for the 2011 season, even he get a medical redshirt. 7/7/2009 9:56:59 AM |

^^ Have we ever received any indication that he could play this year? "Broken Leg" can mean a lot of different things because of the diff't bones and resulting injuries from a bone being broken.
That being said, if we could get him for 5/6 games this year, I feel like he would return for his RS senior season, whereas before, he probably would have left after this year. So we may end up getting him for an extra few games outta this.
I just hope he is the same player he was before. 7/7/2009 10:28:35 AM |

how much does being injury prone hurt a player's draft stock? He missed a third of last season's games, then this could lead to future leg/lung problems. 7/7/2009 12:07:53 PM |
