As a Phillies hater, I hope Shane Victorino dies a fiery and tragic death before opening day.

Evan Longoria's agent shoud die in a fire seeing the terms of that horrible contract. Seriously what the fuck was he thinking?

As for baseball, the Mets still haven't signed another good starting pitcher that they think is going to magically appear.

^ yeah but when he signed the contract he was still nothing more than a star prospect.

^^ This is baseball. Star prospects get huge contracts all the time. Longoria jumped the gun and will have to do an Ocho Cinco now if we wants to make the money he could've commanded on the open market.

Pitchers and catchers report today!

Finally I can talk about something other than how bad our basketball team is.

McGwire reported to training camp today....makes me nervous as a Cardinals fan.

I'm down in Florida for the rest of the week and I want to go see a practice. Does anybody know what time they start in the morning?

For all those that tweeted me and asked - first Mets workout open to the public is Saturday morning. They normally get outside around 9

--- Mets at least in Port St. Lucie

Only in the minors to start, but this eventually make it's way up to the majors.

^ So did the Mets find another starting pitcher that you guys kept acting like would appear out of thin air?

Not yet.

Did you guys trade away a Top 3 pitcher for a fifth outfielder this off-season or did I dream that?

^^ At least the Braves had the pitching to trade because they had an over supply of good arms.
Yeah trading away Vasquez for Melky sucked ass, but the Braves really had no choice given that they are owned by a shithole corporation that will not let them increase payroll.

The Mets have Santana and a group of fuck tards pretending to be a rotation. Plus you Mets fans were the one acting like finding decent starting pitching was a given in the offseason even though the FA market was thin and you have a bare cupboard of prospects to trade. Hell if Omar and the rest of the clowns running Mets were in charge of the Braves, they would have trade Hanson and Jurrjens for a pack for juicy fruit and $5.

Actually, they were hurt by giving Derek Lowe a TERRIBLE contract for his age... don't give him that and keeping Vasquez is no problem.

And the Mets don't have the best rotation but Pelfrey will rebound after his Verducci effect year just like Hamels will...

Lowe at 15 per from ages 36-39 is prime example of teams still paying based on steroid era age expectations. 5-6 years ago, that age range was still expected to be late-prime for most players. Now, its not a total fall off a cliff, but its definitely a much more rapid descent for all but the most gifted players.

^^ Yeah the contract for Lowe was too high for too long. Definitely a mistake by the Braves upper management, but if the Braves had the payroll flexibility of say the Yanks, Angels, Mets, or Red Sox, they could have eaten a large portion of Lowe's contract, traded him, and then kept Vasquez.

Oh well. While I like Vasquez, I hope he sucks again as a Yankee.

Pelfrey may come back to life this year, but even if he does and is able to win ~15 games, the Mets are still going to struggle to find 90 wins on that pitching staff unless the offense is amazing.

Doesn't really belong in this thread, but is not thread worthy either. Jay McGwire, Big Mac's brother, is putting out a book about Mark and the roids. Pretty sleazy.

Sweet high school picture... I can't believe someone would change from age 15 to 35... seriously, everyone knows he is a juicer but dudes change A LOT from high school (which this has to be from since there is a metal bat and we know he went to ASU for baseball).

^ I agree. The more compelling picture is from his 87 Topps Card where he is still pencil thin or even the '91-'92 years with the Pirates where he is no where near as big as he got in the 2000s.
