I'm having difficulty with the boss on level 4, the one where you're underwater and she's throwing the rings at you.

Any advice on this one?

So I bought this game for my wife and I to play together. Big mistake. She sucks at it. And the worst part is that when she screws up a level she gets mad at me for sighing. Take it from me, unless you marry a gamer don't merge your two loves. It will end in disaster.

*sigh* you have to plug a classic controller into the Wii remote in order to use it anyway

AFAIK, the game only supports (1) the Wii remote alone or (2) the Wii remote + nunchuk

if your wife/gf sucks at mario, you need to get an easy game like rayman raving rabbids. nothing that requires some semblance of coordination or skill.

or anything with the fit board. for some reason my gf is really into wii sports resort 3 pt contest. however, she is also decent at the new mario.

got it the other day, just beat world four, pretty flawless so far, it's interesting there is still a ton of innovative stuff you can do with 2d games that everyone kind of gave up on when 3d took over, just a simple thing like the ice flower and helicopter hat can change the gameplay substantially

anyways, does anyone know what kind of secrets there are in this game? so far I've gotten a ton of the three coins for a lot of the levels and have yet to see any pay off

Anyone having controller issues? My controller keeps re-syncing in the middle of play.

world 2 was hard.

i really like the game, other than the fact that you can get in each other's way. they need to be able to run through each other like in LBP, but still jump on top.

the part I hate most is the wall-jump. you can barely control your character after rebounding off the wall.

ex: you go for a jump, miss it, hit the wall just underneath the ledge, WALL JUMP SAVE! onto the target ledge, right? nope, you just propel off in the other direction into the abyss.

haven't played it by myself, but 3+ player is damn fun

figuring out the bubble trick was quite the revelation

the controls are weird to me. when i'm running and let off the button, my character still moves a little bit. takes a while to get used to the controls.
ie. the first goomba in word 1-1 killed me b/c i jumped but landed next to him and got hit...wtf

wall jump, all you do is jump against the wall pressing the direction that the wall is in relation to you and hit jump again

yea the key to the wall jump is you have to hit the direction of the wall when you jump, i just figured that out myself

my wife and i are in the process of getting all the star coins. we put about 2 hours a week (if that) into it and she's gotten really good. it's hilarious to hear her say "boosties, please" when she needs a lift, or "we need special helmets" when refering to the propeller hats

so are the 3 coin stars per level the only secret thing to collect? What happens if you collect them all?

once you collect all the coins in each level of a world you will unlock a level in World 9.

I know how to wall jump; anyone can figure that out in a few seconds. I'm saying that it'd be nice to have directional control of the jump immediately after bounding off the wall.

I couldn't make it through that video but I see where you were coming from. The funny thing is that my wife actually became good at mario, so much that she beat the game and is now going through each world to pick up all the coins. It is hilarious to come back to my computer and see ign gamer guides pulled up. I still can't play with her but at least we got our money's worth.

I'm loving this game. I think my housemate & I finished World 7 the last time we played. It's new and fun, but with just enough NES carryovers to make it familiar.

My girlfriend, too, sucks at Mario. lol. I think she kills 10-15 Luigis for every Mario I kill and half the time when I die I thank her for killing me in some way. I think I'm on World 3-1 in my game with her.

This game is actually harder with a crazy ass Luigi running around and getting in my way. I can't count the amount of times I've had to say "just stand there and let me do this first". When I figured out you can grab other players the game got hilarious.

played this with 4 people the other night. Definitely do not recommend for more than 2 people. We were all in the way and yelling at the slowest person in the back. We had all used like 5 continues by stage 2.

we did pretty well with 3 people playing last week

but there are some levels where you just gotta get the other person/people to press 'A' and float around for a while

It's definitely harder with more people but the madness is pretty hilarious.

I can't help but laugh at myself when there's a big coin that looks unreachable without dying so I tell my friend, "I've got an idea" then pick him up and throw him at the coin, then he dies

just tried to play this one-player for the first time since playing many times with 2 people

it was shameful (7-4)

maybe it was the fact that i didnt have the controller in the sleeve (had to disconnect the motion plus because the 1 and 2 were awkward .. but didnt feel like putting it in the smaller sleeve, so it was a naked controller

one thing i hate about this game....

when you are moving mario and then let off the d-pad, he keeps moving a step or 2.

that causes me to run into so many enemies. he doesn't stop fast enough, his momentum keeps him going.

i'm on world 3 and i'm surprised at the challenge of the game so far. more difficult than i thought it would be, and that's a good thing

Really? This has been a part of every mario game that I can remember. One would think you would be used to that by now.

The only thing that really annoyed me when I was playing it over the break was the slight pause when someone else gets hit or dies; I'm not always aware of exactly what everyone else is doing, and that bit of hesitation kept causing my jumps or other input commands not to work, and I wasn't always fast enough to hit it again in time to avoid whatever doom I was trying to jump away from.

the momentum thing has not been as noticeable in the other mario games, i've played them all countless times, still have them...

it is more pronounced in this one, the controls seem more clunky
