I'd say quality of team runs like this:

1. Canada
2. Russia
3. Finland
4. USA
5. Sweden

First real good matchup is coming up in a couple mins, and a great rivalry as well. Czech Republic vs. Slovakia.

yeah, trying real hard to stay awake for that one. will probably make it to 12:30, then fall asleep 10 minutes in. this game should give a good indicator of which of those will be the dark horse out of group B.

Well if noone else is watching the game, I'll keep up with the highlights.

2-0 USA

Miller with two outstanding saves in the first.

I didn't actually realize until a moment ago that the format is different than I assumed it was. The schedule I posted on the first page omits Tuesday, February 23, which is the playoff qualification.

At the end of the group stage, the teams are ranked 1 through 12. 1-4 get byes into the quarterfinals. 5-8 play for the final 4 spots in the quarterfinals.

I had assumed that a loss for Slovakia against Russia tonight would pretty much mean they are out, but not the case in this format. Only the worst 4 teams go out after this.

Langenbrunner misses an empty net, 2 on 1 the other way, and a SH goal by Holtet for the Norwegians

USA leads 3-1

The knockround is 1-4 bye to quarters

5-12 winner plays 4th ranked team
6-11 winner plays 3rd ranked team
7-10 winner plays 2nd ranked team
8-9 winner plays 1st ranked team

A real chippy game, USA willing to sacrifice defensive position in exchange for more offense. Miller has been the difference, as the Norwegians have had lots of high quality scoring chances.

3-1 after 2

Ryan Miller with an assist, and it really should be his 2nd of the tourney but he didn't get credit in the game against the Swiss. In any event a heads-up play to catch Norway on a change, inside out by Jack Johnson, and the baseball swing of Ryan Malone adds a goal for a much more comfortable 4-1 lead.

take off the slug-colored glasses. yes, they've had some quality chances, once of which they potted. But total, Norway only has 11 shots.

Rafalski adds two late goals to make it 6-1.

Hey it is what it is, more then half their shots have been great scoring chances, and with any other American goalie this game would have been tied in the 3rd. Jeremy Roenick says after the game, "This is Ryan Miller's tournament to win or lose." The commentators must have had slug-colored glasses cause they agreed

Two days rest and then Canada is up next, can't wait for Sunday!

And I just want to say that it pisses me off that USA hockey is on the ice, Lindsay Vonn is on the slopes, Canada wins their third gold medal, and Judge Judy is on NBC.

You really think that the game would've been tied with Jon Quick, who headed into the Olympics with a shutout against Colorado, in our net?

Canada's PP looks like shit. They have to pound the gd puck at the net. not look for the tic tac toe.

Ain't gonna happen.

Hiller's not going to get beat easily with point blasts. The point of getting pucks to the net on the PP is to generate rebounds, but you still need someone to fight through there. Outside of Perry and Getzlaf, who are both on the second unit, there aren't those type of bodies. The Canadian PP units are built around working the puck.

And of course, it's the impromptu third unit that gets a dirty goal.
