Wow...

I can't believe that USC is hiring this guy. Nothing about his performance so far has suggested he'll be a good college coach. He's 7-6 as a college coach. Sure he's got NFL experience, but it's with the OAKLAND RAIDERS where he achieved a 4-12 record.

The only positive thing he's had going for him as a coach is his mouth, which keeps him in the news. But there is zero evidence that the man can actually coach a football team to success.

Also, if he has any success at USC an NFL team is likely to come calling, and Kiffin will probably jump ship immediately.

You'd think they'd be shy of having that happen two times in a row (although, to be fair Carroll put in a lot of years at USC and brought them championships, so they're probably not AS bitter about it as they could be).

Overall I think that he's a dick for leaving in 1 year, but can you really blame him?

He's moving from Knoxville to LA
He gets to play in the Pac-10 (much easier than the SEC)
He doesn't have to recruit against SEC and ACC schools on a day in day out basis
His team will be located in one of the top 3 (FL, TX, CA) recruiting hotbeds of the nation
He has an unlimited bank account to pay players
and even in LA, his wife is still smokin' hot.

Outside of having morals and honoring your contract, this is a good move for him. He's still a dick though. (and I don't even like Tennessee)

I think this is a good short term hire for USC. They are bringing in a familiar coach to please the fans and current recruits. He also has one of the best staffs in the nation coming with him.

In the long run, I think that this is a terrible hire. He has proven nothing as a coach himself. Who knows how long his staff will stay; his dad has to be getting close to retirement. USC is making a long term hire with such a young guy, and I see no way that this will not end badly for USC. Oregon, Cal, OSU, and any other decent Pac-10 team are licking their chops right now.
