What stage trickery did they do to his beard for the pageant sketch? At first I was all thinking he shaved, but for the closing he was all normal again.

I'm pretty sure someone can be considered an alumnus without ever having graduated.
Also, I'm pretty sure he was only one course away from graduating, but decided to peace out anyway.

SNL dropped the ball on this one - they had a lot of potential with ZG but once again the writing sucked ass and they failed to bring the funny. Honestly the best part was his monologue, he killed that. And I swear, if I see another "What up with that" skit, I'm going to throw my TV out the window 3/7/2010 7:50:07 PM |

I'm watching this now, the opening sketch almost made me stop watching completely. SNL is like the economy, it peaks and recedes . When Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, etc were on in the late 70s, it was great. The early 80s it was completely forgettable. It picked up in the late 80s. In the early 90s it was great again. Then it began to decline. It has not picked up since, and in my opinion, it's the worst it has ever been. Zach's monologue was good, but Jesus, he's been doing that "That's so Raven" joke for over 5 years now. Is that show even on the air anymore? 3/8/2010 1:47:42 AM |

The late 90s were really good. Will Ferrel was as solid a cast member the show has had, and that era was probably the funniest group of women they've had. Also, I'm one of the few people who really liked Colin Quinn on Weekend Update. 3/8/2010 1:55:44 AM |

^^ Colin Quinn is one of the worst things that has ever happened to TV, much less SNL.... I've heard other people say they liked him to, and I simply can't wrap my mind around that thought. It's incomprehensible to me how someone can think his material, but especially his delivery, was funny. 3/8/2010 9:41:21 AM |
screentest All American 1955 Posts user info edit post |
^He definitely has an awkward, unconventional delivery. And his material comes from a pretty distinct, slightly under heard point-of-view. These reasons are largely why I like him. He's an original. I think he's very sharp and his performance style is one of the more interesting of the last couple generations of comedians. For what its worth, which I don't think is very much, he's generally held in high regard by his peers within the comedy community.
But yeah, there's the whole subjectivity of comedy, and basically all art, thing. My grandpa will laugh his ass off all kinds of things/performers that I can't begin to relate to. But his laughter is certainly authentic, so I'll accept on some level, maybe not one I respect, The Blue Collar Comedy Tour guys of the world are funny. ^You're one of those people who gets a hard-on for The Office(US), right - I think i've seen you jizzing all over that thread. To me, that's some of the most bland, gutless comedy I've ever seen; far more offensive than anything Colin Quinn has ever evacuated into a toilet. But as the saying goes, there's no accounting for taste. 3/8/2010 10:13:03 AM |
