i thought the movie was ok. my question that doesn't seem to have been addressed is
SPOILER
considering the twist regarding topher grace's character, when he got cut off from the rest of the group inside the mining station or whatever, why was he freaking out and seeming worried that he was alone? he even panicked when he saw that one predator walking towards him. i guess the scene was ok for the sake of suspense, and i don't know if this is being too nit picky or something, but it was just kind of stupid since he really had nothing to worry about.
/SPOILER

Ommm....because he didn't want to die??
He might have been a sick, twisted, serial killer, but he still didn't want to die. And even though he was a killer, he wasn't a bad-ass solider/mercenary/drug cartel killer like the rest of the group...so he's more likely to wet his pants when confronted with a Predator than the rest of the group.7/19/2010 11:09:38 AM |

It was decent. Worth the $6 on my day off. Needed better dialogue though. 7/19/2010 2:45:41 PM |

^^ that whole thing confused me for a second when i was watching the movie. for a minute i thought they were implying that his character was some kind of mole for the predators, but that didn't make any sense so eventually i just assumed that they were just falling back on the 'psycho serial killer' label to make him do something crazy. in my opinion though it seemed pretty stupid for his character to suddenly want to kill the person helping him while he's sitting in a predator's hole in the ground waiting to be killed himself, but whatever it's only a predator movie so i guess you're gonna have plot holes here and there. 7/19/2010 4:09:31 PM |

He might be a serial killer, but he's also a weakling. He might have been able to kill one of the other guys at some point during the movie, but he'd still have to deal with the others after the killing (and he seemed like one of the rapist/torture type killers, so he probably wouldn't have gotten any joy out of just poisoning someone and having them die). When they were in the hole, that was pretty much the only he opportunity he had to get away with murder.
When I saw his character I was like, "they either picked up a doctor so he could tend to the other guys' injuries, or this guy has some freaky twist." Looks like it was B. 7/19/2010 5:30:46 PM |

Ditto. I also thought that he'll either be the good guy and be one of the (few) survivors or he'll have his freaky twist and get killed. By 1/2 way through the film when he had added nothing of value to the team I had pretty much decided he was evil and was waiting for him to turn bad.
Whatever happened to predictability?

yeah but my point was that he was presumably in no danger of dying since he was cooperating with the predators. he said something along the lines of "they chose me." everyone else was dropped into the jungle with sufficient ways of defending themselves with the exception of the doctor. i guess they could've saved him for last, but there was no challenge in hunting him.7/19/2010 8:19:27 PM |

^I think you're looking at it the wrong way (or maybe I could be).
The Predators just picked up some of the best killers on Earth to hunt. He was just an unconventional killer. They didn't pick him to kill the other humans (why the fuck would they do that?? that's what they get joy out of, why would they let someone else take their fun??)
I don't believe he was "cooperating" with them. They "chose" him just like they chose everyone else...because they were basically human "Predators" (I remember the girl stating that at some point near the end...or maybe it was Brody). And the rest of the guys had "sufficient ways of defending themselves" because they were all "kidnapped" while they were in battle (I know at least the Russian and the girl stated that they were in combat). 7/20/2010 10:17:58 AM |

The original Predator is one of my all-time favorite films. So naturally I was really excited about this movie when I first saw the trailer and it actually looked like it would live up to the hype and make me forget about all the other shitty sequels, minus the first AvP which was somewhat tolerable. Holy fuck was I wrong.....epic fail - I don't think I've ever been more disappointed by a movie that I was so looking forward to seeing before. So over-the-top and ridiculous and just plain dumb sometimes, not to mention it took the movie forever to build up to anything at all. The predator dog scene looked awful, as did the explosion in the ship, plus the sword fight just felt so cheesy and forced. Most of the characters were annoying and aggravating, especially the death row inmate, and what the hell was the "plot twist" with topher grace's character. That whole idea was retarded and did not help the movie at all. Where the original movie actually felt realistic and involving, this movie barely can even scratch the surface. I really don't know if I ever want to see another predator movie get made.... 7/21/2010 1:18:02 PM |

You just lost all credibility. That movie was fucking garbage.

It really had nothing to do with the plot...it was just a "twist" in general. If you saw it as a plot twist, then you had no idea what was going on in the movie.7/21/2010 1:34:37 PM |

So Fox put out what is actually a really sweet ipad app based on the movie.
I've spent the entire week cutting off Adrien Brody's head. 10/6/2010 7:22:21 PM |

Finally saw it a few nights ago.
The new predators look stupid as hell, ignoring the terrible CG. Also don't understand why they would be the bigger and better species, yet we have never seen them in hunting missions to Earth.
Otherwise I found it relatively enjoyable. Was there any other mention of Arnold's character besides the spec ops mission report that the girl rattled off?
I also would've liked more Predator perspective and feeling like they were being hunted.

Thx. So I finally got around to watching this. I guess it's the best Predator movie since the first one, wasn't that bad, wasn't that good. Just wanted to add my two worthless cents.
So they chose the humans based on observing them being 'predators' if you will. Still, I wonder how they chose the serial killer and the criminal.
I guess they did some Predator:CSI on some crime scenes to track down the serial killer. Or maybe they got lucky and witnessed one of his murders early on and decided to follow him. And lol at Topher Grace gaining 60 pounds of muscle. Maybe he should have gained another 60. BTW, how do you gain 60 pounds of muscle on short notice... legally?
The criminal. The way I figure the Predators either hacked and translated criminal records and sifted through them for possible candidates or, again, they witnessed his crimes, observed him in prison for a few decades, then abducted him a few days before he was scheduled to be executed.
The others made sense I guess. They were abducted while "in battle."
The dogs taking on 40 pounds of lead before dying has been covered ITT, so... not a fan of the new Predator look. It's just me, I hate the hyper-extended / huge jaw as a horror device. And at first I assumed that the "little" Predator was the thing with the roaches all over it, not the regular Predator tied to the post thing. The super Predators or whatever didn't look all that different except for the dumb jaw look.
And also mentioned, yeah the Predators sucked at hunting. They barely followed their prey. Morbius' hideout was still an unknown location to them even though like 9 people made an exodus there. It seemed like the Predators were surprised the humans went to their camp, etc. You'd think they would be following close at all times.
