Ummm.

Ok, so this "deem and pass" thing is the Senate bill plus a bill for Reconciliation right (hence using Deem and Pass instead of wasting time and political capital trying to pass them separately)?

Which means that the second part still has to pass the Senate. And unless the VP either gets really lucky and the Senate Parliamentarian says that the whole thing is kosher with Reconciliation or the VP grows a pair and ignores the Senate Parliamentarian and proceeds with the vote anyway then there is still a strong chance of it being held up by a filibuster.

Right?

Just wanting to get my facts straight for my inevitable disappointment when Biden fails to grow a pair.

no. that would defeat the entire purpose. the reconciliation bill is separate from the senate bill. and the senate bill has already passed the senate (obviously)

As I understand it, the House will vote yes to the rule which will mean that they are passing the Senate version as-is.

What scares House democrats is that they have to trust that the Senate will come back quickly and fix all the problems that will get House democrats voted out of office for in November (fed. payment for abortion etc).

I'm predicting after the vote, Obama & the senate dems will declare victory and never try to mention health-care again until after the election...thus leaving House dems out to dangle in the wind...where we salivating conservatives will tear them to shreds.

^^ I should have stated that differently, there's still a chance of the Reconciliation portion being held up if the Senate Parliamentarian says no and Biden doesn't choose to ignore him. The portion which has already passed the Senate would, of course, be considered passed as it would have been voted on in the House and the Senate.

^ They pass a bill that includes language that they're also passing another bill. It's just a logistical trick to roll the two bills into one so they won't have to have two different roll call votes. It's not going to fool anybody come election time if they're going to vote against a Rep for voting for or against HCR.

It's a vote on both bills, at one time. I'm surprised you aren't applauding this fine example of efficiency in government.

dude... seriously, as far as biden growing a pair... pretty sure he's more afraid of what michelle will do to him if he doesn't do what obama says.

parliamentarian vs. michell obama

He wouldn't even have balls leftover if he tried to step up to michelle

Some of the more popular parts of the bill kick in right away, but good luck telling people that no lifetime caps or denials due to pre-existing conditions or getting dropped when you get sick is good because we have to feed the gods of laissez faire.

Most people don't share your Ayn Rand sexual fantasies, thankfully.

rumor that they're not going to use deem and pass?

50+ senators signed a letter saying they'd vote for the reconciliation bill.

^^ yes, because all of those things really helped BCBS keep prices down. So much so that they abandoned those things because they couldn't compete. You know the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing and expecting different results.

Hey Kris, it's funny how you think that Republicans are filibustering in the House

^ yeah, FoxNews is reporting that they aren't going to use the Slaughter rule. Which is probably a good thing.

"Taking the second question first, House Democrats are, basically, reacting to GOP threats that, on the campaign trail, they'll treat a vote for the Senate health care bill as a vote for controversial provisions like the Nebraska Medicaid deal, even though those provisions will be immediately stripped from the legislation."

Quote :
""Republicans have dubbed this the "Slaughter Solution," and described it as an unprecedented maneuver that will allow Democrats to enact reform without casting a vote on it. The reality is that this maneuver (known more technically as a "self executing rule") has a long history, and has been used more frequently by Republicans than by Democrats.""

The only reason they were considering the whole deem & pass thing because the GOP has already promised the run attack ads claiming house members support parts of the senate bill that they are actually voting to remove. I think the hope was that by combining the votes (to pass the senate version while simultaneously improving it) that house members who voted down the corn husker kickback wouldn't be blamed for supporting it. Not that the GOP had any room to whine about procedural tactics after all the nomination holds & filibuster threats they have done. In the end, not using this method is probably for the best. I mean if you are dealing with an opponent who has already promised to lie, changing methodology isn't going to suddenly get them not to lie.

continuing to do something that is unConsitutional doesn't make it any less unConstitutional. Even if the pubs have used it before, it doesn't change anything. That is what is called "tu quoque."

Yes by all means then, let's turn over our health care to the gov't. They've done such a good job with stuff in the past...medicare..social security..Fannie & Freddie. And those wonderful politicians, never out for themselves.

Capitalism is the only system that has freed the masses from the crush of poverty. Every failed country has a history of moving away from economic liberty towards socialism.
