Sounds like a lot of patriotism boils down to wars won/military power and past scientific achievments. Is anyone proud of something America is doing today more than something America did yesterday?

Do you really not understand what I'm talking about? I'm talking about America's current affairs, as opposed to past achievements. For example, I'm far more proud of America's ongoing international philanthropy efforts than I am of our victory in WWII.
