^You don't have to have served on a sub to know that space is limited. If you can't see this as a problem I don't know what to tell you, you're just beyond help.

yes, I have served on a sub. And I would hardly call myself "morbidly obese." I weight 195lbs, and a lot of that is muscle mass in my legs. Up top I'm a scrawny motherfucker. Btw, I'm not "discounting" anyone here. Rather, I'm offering actual fucking experience to a discussion that is sorely lacking it.

It sounds like aaronburro is a big baby who can't handle being around other naked people.

I could replace "women" with anything else that people have claimed an inability to integrate with in close quarters. Blacks.. gays.. you name it.

Hey, you know where there's REALLY limited space? The INTERNATIONAL FUCKING SPACE STATION.

And guess what? Men and women both go up there in a space more cramped than a submarine. And they don't whine about it like fucking children who dont' want to see each other's wee-wees and hoo-has.

So like I said...why don't college dorms have unisex bathrooms? They've integrated 'gays and blacks' so why not sex?

It sounds like God has never been on a submarine in his entire life and wants us all to piss rainbows and shit skittles. and yeah, the caliber of people on the space station is 100% the same as the caliber of people on submarines

note how he didn't address the pregnancy issue. because a sub giving up its position is A-OK with him.

Don't worry, there will be no fucking on submarines. According to Froshkiller and God they'll be able to restrain themselves because they've seen first hand how a small number of employees on land can handle shitting in the same toilet.

You see. This argument might be valid if there weren't college dorms that didn't have unisex bathrooms. But since there are college dorms in the US and around the world that have unisex bathrooms, I suppose that would hurt your point, rather than make it. Not to mention that there seems to be a trend in more and more colleges considering going to unisex dorms.

Apparently the people on submarines are less disciplined, considering your friend followed up with:

define unisex bathroom. Do these dorms have a large 'locker room' style bathroom with toilet stalls and showers that are used by both male and females simultaneously...or are you talking suite bathrooms where only one person can be in there at a time? I'm curious because I've yet to hear about this in this country at least.

Where do they take showers in the Space Station, God? Where do they hang out naked together?

AND FUCKING YES THE PEOPLE ON THE SPACE STATION ARE MORE DISCIPLINED THAN PEOPLE ON SUBMARINES.

And I honestly wouldn't be surprised to learn that there's fucking going on the Space Station, anyway.

I read a book called Stranger Than Fiction by Chuck Palahniuk on a plane a few years back. It's a collection of articles that he wrote for various magazines over the years. Of them was called "The People Can" and was a feature on navy submarines. Basically he was given access and spent time with a sub crew before writing the article, which ultimately was edited by the navy before it was published.

The book featured the published article but then had a follow up with all of the content that was edited out. It was all about how much gay stuff goes on during long deployments. Pretty goddamn funny.

The large locker room style bathrooms with toilet and shower stalls used by both sexes simultaneously.

And they call them "gender neutral" bathrooms.

http://www.transgenderlaw.org/college/index.htm
Quote :
" More than 25 colleges and universities offer a gender-neutral housing option, from large, public universities like the University of California, Riverside and the University of Southern Maine, to small, private liberal arts institutions like Bennington College and Oberlin College."

Oberlin also has gender neutral bathrooms in the residence halls.

Granted, unisex bathrooms in dorms aren't common by any stretch of the imagination. They do exist. And unisex dorms are growing in the US.

Wait, you don't think there would be underway sexin' going on? That's more absurd than legitimately thinking that common heads are something that might actually have a snowballs chance in hell in the USN in 2010.

I mean, holy fuck, gender-integrate if you want, but don't do it with your head buried in the sand.

Can you post some links to that? I am not finding anything to back this up. The closest I've found is:

Quote :
"From Thursday February 4th to Sunday February 7th 2010, The University of Victoria Student Society (UVSS) temporarily designated all bathrooms in their student union building as gender neutral. This was done to accommodate delegates of the Canadian Universities conference Queer Services (CUQSC). The changes included previously single sex multi-stalled bathrooms. Signs reading 'Gender Neutral Washroom Everyone welcome to use!' were posted over previous male and female designations on the doors to the bathrooms.[6]"

but thats in Canada, not the US.

Everything else I've read is about gender-neutral single stall toilets. Which have existed for ages.

^^^^ You really didn't look hard enough:

Quote :
"Nineteen-year-old Jennifer Weiler filed a civil complaint last week against the Department of Public Safety, which enforces building and plumbing codes she claims were violated.
All seven of the school’s residence halls are co-ed. According to the lawsuit, Weiler and others are uncomfortable with the flimsy curtains on the shower doors and men using the toilets without closing the door."

In the comments section of this article:
http://www.sdnn.com/sandiego/2009-05-06/lifestyle/unisex-bathroom-his-hers-who-cares

Quote :
"We had unisex bathrooms in the dorm in college in Md in the 1980’s. Halls were divided by gender and since the bathrooms where in the corners, they were unisex.

Using the toilet was not half as disconcerting as showering in a stall seperated by two shower curtains from a coed."

Admittedly, I don't know what country that person was from.

MIT has co-ed bathrooms in the dorms as well. Here's from their admissions site, with pictures and the works:

http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/life/health_safety/dorm_bathrooms.shtml

Convinced yet?

Unisex/Gender Neutral/Co-Ed bathrooms are NOTHING new.

I guess if you've lived in the South your entire life, it would seem wrong and awkward. But it is possible for men and women to share a bathroom and living quarters without raping and fucking the shit out of each other.

some of these bathrooms apparently have 'rules' in place. I suppose they too recognize the awkwardness some students might feel.

FTFY. Biology > Socialization. Put a bunch of men and women together in close quarters for a long period of time without any outside contact, and fucking will happen.

That's not to say this is a good or bad thing in general, but for the purposes of war, I could see that being a bad thing.

Again, I haven't argued the merits or feasibility of such a setup. I'm just saying that it isn't going to happen. Not in the U.S. Navy in the year 2010, at least. You're wasting your breath even talking about it.

Quote :
"Sounds like a good way to get a dishonorable discharge."

1. A dishonorable discharge is like being a convicted felon. You have to really be bad to score yourself a dishonorable.

2. I seriously, seriously doubt you'd get kicked out for it, unless maybe it was also a fraternization issue or you sucked and already had a history of problems. You'd probably lose a couple half months' pay and get some restriction (kinda like being grounded as a teenager), and maybe get some "extra duty" of the scrubbing and cleaning variety. Maybe lose a rank.

3. Again, the punishment and whatever else is irrelevant in terms of arguing whether or not it will happen. Of course it will happen, and happen relatively regularly.

You aren't allowed to have alcohol or bone down in combat zones, but I've yet to see one where it doesn't happen. Even officers do it. Hell, even Marine officers do it, and I'll wager that's a pretty much best case scenario (i.e., good luck getting a boat full of enlisted sailors who play by the rules better than Marine officers).

This is what I'm trying to say. According to the Navy, this is doable. It's probably desirable. You are a fucking moron if you think that it doesn't come with some drawbacks, though. That's fine--there are very few perfect deals out there with no downside...but you need to be aware of what you're dealing with when you set something like this into motion. You are living in a dreamworld to an extent that I can't even comprehend.

Did you really ask that question? It's not like fast attack boats never go in to port. And it's not like people don't fuck on Navy ships already And it's not like someone might get pregnant before she goes out to see and find out on the boat

Damn right it wouldn't, not at shift change when a third of the boat is up and getting dressed/showered/cleaned up. And it certainly wouldn't work in port, since most people tend to get up around the same time.

considering that our Ohio Class Subs will probably be the only things left on earth in the event that they are ever called upon to rain fire, it may be beneficial to have a few women on the ship to help repopulate the planet. Until they're needed, we'll just have to deal with several rape lawsuit payouts.

Another option would be commissioning several all-female submarines and increasing the numbers of all-female submarine crews as necessary to fit the recruiting reality.

Pros: No space issue with two sex facilities, solves equality in opportunities to serve, allows Navy to take advantage of female talent, no male-female sexual harassment problem.

Cons: Would take some time to get an all-female crew trained given the complete lack of previous opportunities (alleviated once program has been in place for a number of years and the numbers of all-female subs increase) and I can't think of any other serious Cons, so, everyone on the same fertility cycle clogging the waste disposal system every month?

100 men go down, 50 couples come up.

Now it will be more like 98 men and 2 women go down, everyone comes back up with the same STDs.

There is no way any chick who goes down doesn't end up fucking a lot of the crew. Not saying it's a bad thing, but tight quarters with no outside contact = nothing else to do.
